This is what I heard when I turned on the news just a minute ago...by demonstrators in London today...I'm actually really shocked. Do people really think this?? There were A LOT of people at the demonstration...

The virus (itself) isn't going to kill 99% of the poulation only the elderly and vunerbable are at risk, who would need to take precautions anyway. With lock down restrictions resulting in loss of livelyhoods, suicides, less medical care etc that will lead to more deaths as a knock on effect surely. If we are looking at lives lost this could be worse in the long run. Where's the end game, wait for a rushed through, ineffective vaccine till we go back to normal

Why did so many medical staff die if it's only the elderly and vulnerable who need to worry? There are plenty of younger people with no previous issues getting very ill from it (as in needing hospitalisation and all kinds of intervention) and even dying. Even if it were only the elderly and vulnerable, how are they supposed to avoid infection if it's left to rip round the rest of the population unchecked?

I think the biggest fear I have these days is of how easy it's been to mislead so many people, and what those people will be led to next

Actually it hasn't 'shut up shop'. Of course it has taken a massive hit, but NZers still have holidays - they just holiday within the country. We are coming into summer soon, so there will be even more people travelling, and the tourism sector has been offering deals to encourage people to do so.

Dame, agree though as you may have seen, there'll be a 'scientist' or 'doctor' (often spurious or an expert outside their specialism or retired and being paid or desperate for attention or, in one case, suspected of having a psychotic episode [though all of that will appear like 'they' are supressing dissenting voices] on youtube, twitter or in the Daily Mail/Telegraph/Spectator. Once people decide what they want to think it's often not difficult to find supporting substitutes for evidence.

damefanny, I try and be wary of my own confirmation bias but when I was told to look at youtube/twitter/read some article through .... Daily Mail, Telegraph, Spectator by a family member because it's by a scientist or a doctor, the expert has turned out to be a 'never was' or retired and in a different discipline nowhere near the expertise they claim or, as you say, suspended and/or fraudsters.

They're all so fucking stupid.

That's totally confusing, so Mintychoc is a doctor, and she has been asked to say the cause of death was covid when it's not. And says her colleague does as asked.
But why? What can people gain from changing the cause of death?
So can GP/doctors decide what the cause of death was regardless of the fact/proof?
