This is what I heard when I turned on the news just a minute ago...by demonstrators in London today...I'm actually really shocked. Do people really think this?? There were A LOT of people at the demonstration...

Was Ferguson there? He certainly likes his theories.

[Imperial College epidemiologist Neil] Ferguson was behind the disputed research that sparked the mass culling of eleven million sheep and cattle during the 2001 outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease.
He also predicted that up to 150,000 people could die. There were fewer than 200 deaths. . . .

In 2002, Ferguson predicted that up to 50,000 people would likely die from exposure to BSE (mad cow disease) in beef. In the U.K., there were only 177 deaths from BSE.

In 2005, Ferguson predicted that up to 150 million people could be killed from bird flu. In the end, only 282 people died worldwide from the disease between 2003 and 2009.

In 2009, a government estimate, based on Ferguson’s advice, said a “reasonable worst-case scenario” was that the swine flu would lead to 65,000 British deaths. In the end, swine flu killed 457 people in the U.K.

Last March, Ferguson admitted that his Imperial College model of the COVID-19 disease was based on undocumented, 13-year-old computer code that was intended to be used for a feared influenza pandemic, rather than a coronavirus. Ferguson declined to release his original code so other scientists could check his results. He only released a heavily revised set of code last week, after a six-week delay.

So the real scandal is: Why did anyone ever listen to this guy?

fantasmasgoria1 · 26/09/2020 19:46

Obviously covid is very real. Having said that over time things I have read, seen discussed etc suggest some deaths that were not down to covid have been recorded as being covid. I'm sure it can't be a large number though.

Inkpaperstars · 26/09/2020 19:46

@reikizen

I don’t think it is so ‘utterly terrifying’! Everyone is going to die from something! Please have some perspective. Look at the official digit lees for how many people die globally from TB, or dementia, or starvation for gods sake. I find it concerning that anyone who disagrees with you should be arrested, it simply means that those people were right to protest. You are all losing your minds
Yes, everyone is going to die from something. I think you will find consensus on that. Most of those causes of death have no risk whatsoever of growing exponentially with huge social, and economic consequences, impact on treatment of other conditions, national security etc. Restrictions effect those things, but exponential growth to a natural peak will not allow to return to normal. They would likely be worse, or as bad but with more death.
SantaClaritaDiet · 26/09/2020 19:47

The simple fact that they are allowed to so such a stupid demonstration prove them wrong, which is amusing if you think about it.

Even if it's rather questionable that they end up completely flouting the guidelines - and basically breaking the law.

HesterShaw1 · 26/09/2020 19:48

Christ I wish these idiots would stop spouting their shit

They're giving all the people who are a bit sceptical of the official approach a bad name.

Concerned7777 · 26/09/2020 19:49
@JKRowlingIsMyQueen surely by gathering in such numbers increases the likelihood of another lockdown? Doing the exact opposite of what you want. If you want no lockdown hugely encourage people to socially distance, wear masks wash hands, work from home etc
BLM protesting in large numbers didn't cause a lockdown did they?

megletthesecond · 26/09/2020 19:50

There are a lot of thick people out there. 20% I reckon 🤷‍♀️.

Cloudburstagain · 26/09/2020 19:50

As an aside I cannot believe people can gather in such numbers legally for a protest when the law now bans people gathering for a funeral at a Graveside (outside) for a loss of a loved one say from cancer.

People may have the right to protest but it seems so unfair that protest is a higher right than a funeral.

megletthesecond · 26/09/2020 19:51

The BLM protesters wore masks.

notevenat20 · 26/09/2020 19:52

Half the population have below average IQ.

notevenat20 · 26/09/2020 19:54

BLM protesting in large numbers didn't cause a lockdown did they?

It turns out that lots of people stay home if there is a big protest nearby. They has a counterbalancing effect in terms of covid spread.

SheepandCow · 26/09/2020 19:54

@Concerned7777
Lots of BLM wore masks. It was also at a time when cases were lower so less to spread. The warmer weather might've helped to. We now have rapidly increasing cases and hospital admissions rising. In any event, even if they shouldn't have protested, two wrongs don't make a right.

Mintychoc1 · 26/09/2020 19:54

As a doctor I am certain that the number of Covid deaths is exaggerated . I have been asked several times by the coroners office to state Covid 19 as cause of death in people who haven’t been tested. I haven’t done it but my colleagues have.

Mintychoc1 · 26/09/2020 19:54

No extra money though

IceCreamSummer20 · 26/09/2020 19:56

It is a strange thing, but every pandemic has a rise in conspiracy thereorists. No idea why!

alreadytaken · 26/09/2020 19:57

I'd like to dump the lot of them on an island where they could freely infect each other - because at least some are likely to be carriers - without any healthcare.

" I find it concerning that anyone who disagrees with you should be arrested, it simply means that those people were right to protest. " No-one is being arrested for disagreeing, they are being arrested because they are a public health risk. I hope they all follow through on their belief by not taking up hospital beds when they get the virus - and that they are sick enough to stay in.

Chloemol · 26/09/2020 19:58

They are nuts, led by Piers Corbin, say no more

And for those who say protests are allowed, yes they are but Gov guidelines say SD must be followed, only the Covid deniers don’t believe in doing that, and therefore will spread it,

Sarahpaula · 26/09/2020 19:58

They had the right to protest.

I think that how the government is handling things is really bad.

My 70 year old mother was not able to access healthcare that she needed.
All of her support groups and her retirement groups have been cancelled.
She has been told to stay at home and isolate for nearly a year now, which is a form of torture. Her mental health is slipping away very badly.

The government need to be held accountable for all the damage that they are doing,

How does it make sense to take care of coronavirus, but to not take care of ALL other aspects of mental and physical well being

labellesusage · 26/09/2020 19:58

Husband was watching the demo live on you tube.
Lots of shouting at the police .
Then some guy came on saying that he had reported his kids primary school for radioactive somebollocks. According to his 1 brain cell the schools WiFi is giving off enough radiation to give his kids cancer.

walksen · 26/09/2020 19:58

"@JKRowlingIsMyQueen* surely by gathering in such numbers increases the likelihood of another lockdown"

various events showed that outdoor risks are lower than indoor ones ( at least in summer). It might be slightly higher as temperatures fall but even in February this risk was played down by the government

treebarking · 26/09/2020 19:59

I'm sort of intrigued to know what would they say if they got really poorly, went to hospital and was told they tested positive...would they think the doctor was lying and they weren't sick at all?! Or that they were sick with "something else"....

OP posts:
Sarahpaula · 26/09/2020 19:59

@Mintychoc1 did they say why they are asking you to state it as Covid 19?

Frappuccinofan · 26/09/2020 20:00

I’m really disappointed in some of my friends that have fallen for this

As in friends I have known my entire life, and that are well educated and in professional careers. Think things like screenshots of flu articles from 2019 on their Instagram stories, captions about how this is all fake and planned and “corrupt” etc.

Genuinely never though said friends turning into conspiracy theorists would ever happen!

alreadytaken · 26/09/2020 20:01

and mintychoc as you claim to be a doctor you will know that you have to identify yourself by name.

Anonymity
17 If you identify yourself as a doctor in publicly
accessible social media, you should also identify
yourself by name. Any material written by
authors who represent themselves as doctors is
likely to be taken on trust and may reasonably
be taken to represent the views of the profession
more widely.10

So unless you release your name I call you out as a liar.

AwaAnBileYerHeid · 26/09/2020 20:01

You do know that the majority of these demonstrators are just feckless idiots with nothing better to contribute to the country than daft conspiracy theories and disregard of law and order. More than likely workshy idiots who are relishing a day out to stick two fingers up to the establishment, no matter what the cause?

And not that I should need to point it out, but no, doctors are not "being paid to say the diagnosis is covid".
