Hi 👋

I'm in Chester-Le-Street near Durham. Lovely to see a post just for us Grin

We're off to Center Parcs on Monday, feeling v nervous it won't happen. Won't be confident until I've passed through the glass partition at the entrance and on way to our accommodation.

Whisperinastorm · 23/09/2020 13:48

Hi!
Long time lurker, first time poster here. I’m located in Sedgefield. Right on the border of the local lockdown. Lovely to see a group for the North East.

Struggling with the new restrictions at the moment and having to rearrange plans and not see friends/family anymore.

@DurhamDurham - I hope you make it to Center Parcs. It’s hard to believe how many things we took for granted before and just trusted would happen have been impacted.

Shitfuckoh · 23/09/2020 14:01

@SchnitzelVonCrummsTum
There's been no cases in our 2 schools yet but have been some in a local nursery & primary school.

I hope your little one settles soon. Seperation anxiety is the worst. Mine is attending the nursery attached to the school his brother goes to. They have 6 (I think) in the 2 year old room and 24 ish in the 3 year old room. With 6 or 7 staff I think. But different children attend on different days so there could be 10 different children on Monday morning (for example).

MotherOfChaos28 · 23/09/2020 14:03

North Durham here and currently self isolating. One week down and another to go!

DurhamDurham · 23/09/2020 14:10

@Whisperinastorm it's scary how things we took for granted are now illegal or against guidance. If someone told me a year ago I couldn't have my own parents in my house I would have laughed and thought it could never happen.

I've a feeling this is going to be a supportive group Smile

The most recent thing I heard about Fenwick's was that the window would still be on..that was before local measures....imagine how long the q would be 2m apart

Shitfuckoh · 23/09/2020 14:16

Aw, seeing all the talk about Fenwick's window has made me sad.
I usually take the DC in to Newcastle, see the window display, look around the Christmas market. They go on rides, love the cookies, hot chocolate etc spend way too much

It's part of our traditions.
No idea if any of it will be possible this year as I don't drive so would need to use public transport - which is essential use only at the moment!

PickAChew · 23/09/2020 14:28

My last trip into Newcastle, the day after Ds2 went back to school, was for some fabric for my first attempt at dressmaking for about 20 years. Of course, to ease myself back in gently I chose some extremely lightweight cotton lawn for a pattern requiring 3 sets of tucks. It's taken me bloody weeks to get this far but at least I don't get chance to ruminate. I have another set to stitch after a breather. Then I need to press them out without burning myself!

Checking in from North Tyneside 👋🏻 it's not stopped peeing down all day and I have to go out and do the school run soon.

Been WFH but refusing to put the heating on so have been sitting with my dressing gown on over my clothes. I don't know if it's the weather, but I've really struggled to find my mojo today.

Lots of family confusion thinking that last night's announcement applies to the North East too and not really understanding that local lock down trumps the national restrictions.

My mam and dad are debating whether to bubble with me (single parent) or my mam's friend (single adult) 😂 It's a good job I'm not easily offended!

BikeTyson · 23/09/2020 15:22

It’s my non-working day at home with DD and the fact it’s not stopped pissing it down is making me dread the next 6 months. Previously we’d have stopped by my mum and dad’s on a day like today for a cup of tea and a change of scenery but now we can’t do that. No play dates either. And I haven’t braved a lot of places (e.g. museums) yet because she’s nearly 3 and doesn’t do well with adhering to one-way systems Blush and all the cafes are shut.

I’m usually in the “no unsuitable weather, just unsuitable clothes” camp up to a point but it’s just been relentless today.

AntennaReborn · 23/09/2020 15:45

@RedCatBlueCat Middlesbrough Council are distributing free masks to residents, but it probably won't be enough to reverse the trend unfortunately. Hopefully the new England-wide measures will be enough and we won't have to join the rest of the North East in lockdown

LittleRa · 23/09/2020 16:06

Any fellow North Tynesiders spotted this van stationed on Billy Mill roundabout (well, no longer roundabout, traffic lights now) in North Shields Shock

Afternoon lasses!

Just had a post pop up on FB saying they're putting a walk-in test centre in the Coronation Street car park in Wallsend. There's also another being set up in North Shields at the Parks sport centre (I think).

Thanks again for the thread.

LittleRa · 23/09/2020 16:24

@KinYeSeeMeNoooo Yes there’s one in the Parks Sports Centre car park, was set up yesterday. Signs all say “Covid Testing Walk-in Centre”. Not sure if appointment needed or not?

LittleRa · 23/09/2020 16:26

Looks like appointments (see photo)

There's a government announcement message on the radio now saying "You are in a high risk area". It really cheered me up on the way to do the school run in the pouring rain
KinYeSeeMeNoooo · 23/09/2020 16:35

@LittleRa

Yeah, it's appointment only. There's apparently been a confirmed case at the Buffs this week. I'm surprised that's the only one I've heard of in Wallsend tbh.

gingercat02 · 23/09/2020 16:50

LittleRa there was on on the roundabout on Seatonville/Earsdon Riad roundabout. NTC must have got a good deal on matrix signs

LittleRa · 23/09/2020 17:04

@gingercat02 My mum has just mentioned that one too!

SabrinaTheTeenageBitch · 23/09/2020 17:09

Sad about Fenwicks window, bit of a Christmas tradition for us. Theres a Christmas train comes around the streets where we live and thats been cancelled. I understand why because it draws some fairly sized crowds but ugh Christmas is going to be joyless this year isnt it. I keep thinking of extra things I can do at home to make up for it but by mid December Im ready to set the frigging elf on fire, nevermind anything else Grin

Janedownourlane · 23/09/2020 17:10

Hi, anyone heard any recent reports about Stockton on Tees? Hoping to have a visit from my DD in a few weeks and desperately hoping that households can still mix. In Scotland I think they exempt visits where one 'household' lives alone, so there may still be hope. Havent seen her since Christmas.

Plussizejumpsuit · 23/09/2020 17:30

@SchnitzelVonCrummsTum
My sister had a baby in Nov so similar age to your little one. She's found it really hard as her dd doesn't 'go' with others in the same way her older one did. She's just gone back to work after Mat leave. We're really close and I was very hands on with her older dd as I don't have my own. I just really want to help out but can't. So I can imagine how things are for you! While also trying to re imagine how you do your job. I've also been doing this as I'm working on a project with Northumbria uni.

I'm not sure about Stockton. But I've found the covid messenger that another user has set up really good for area specific info. Also I think the councils are getting better at putting stuff on their websites. Are you in Stockton or your dd?
Someaddedsugar · 23/09/2020 17:40

I had never thought of the bollards being an issue with the snow - that isn't going to be pleasant.

For all Durham folk: does anyone know how long the 'tip road' (Potterhouse Lane I think) is going to be closed - my directions are appalling but it's the one that comes of the A167 roundabout near the Arnison Centre?

I read the Covid Messenger emails and spotted cases in Co Durham and Darlington are dropping slightly, but then there seems to be a huge rise in national cases so assuming our local lockdown isn't going to be over any time soon!

Janedownourlane · 23/09/2020 17:41

Thanks @Plussizejumpsuit, Ill have a look at that. I'm the one in Stockton. DD is in London, has been abroad but has now quarantined.
