@Snoringferret sorry this is effecting your buisness. I really identify with double the work as you're planning for several scenarios. It's not the same as its a job, although I am freelance. But I'm project managing a museum /heritage project with schools. I've re worked the project plan and budget constantly. And the staff actually delivering it are having to think of new ways to do their jobs all the time. We think we are good then things change.

Hope you get some clarity soon. What type of business do you have?

PickAChew · 09/10/2020 12:09

Arnison centre bonkers, today. Back to queues outside markses.

Snoringferret · 09/10/2020 12:20

Thanks plus.
I think lots of people are in the same boat with that and with the first initial burst of adrenaline over I think there's going to be a lot of burnout.

It's super outing if I say exactly what the business is but it's similar to putting on baby classes. So I'll be interested to see if the business support includes us or is just for hospitality.

I realise I sound very down on these threads but I'm actually quite cheerful in real life, this just seems like a safe space to vent.

Shitfuckoh · 09/10/2020 12:47

@PickAChew
Maybe they're all wanting the Percy pigs & Snow globe gins?! I'm really gutted I'll be missing out on the chance for a snow globe gin Sad

Snoringferret · 09/10/2020 12:58

I'm might be a bit of an organised funner so feel free to tell me it's a terrible idea, but if we get a strict lockdown and the thread keeps going shall we do a secret Santa type thing on the thread. Obviously very low budget, but just getting something cheerful in the post would be nice.

If people are trying to book something in for Christmas the Horrible Histories drive in show in Middlesbrough opened ticket selling this morning.

Who knows if it'll go ahead but I booked in case it does. Showing 29th Dec.

Someaddedsugar · 09/10/2020 13:19

I love that idea @Snoringferret!

Hope everyone's ok today.

My grandma has had her pain relief increased and all reflexes have gone so now hopefully for her sake not too long for her to go. So sad and I'm distraught at the thought I might not be able to attend her funeral but until Monday or whenever it is I suppose I won't know whether that will or won't be the case...

Snoringferret · 09/10/2020 13:22

Ohsugar that's awful for you!

I really really hope they keep allowing people to go to funerals.

FrolickingLemon · 09/10/2020 13:35

Snoring that's a brilliant idea!

Someaddedsugar Hugs and Flowers for you. Awful at the best of times. My uncle died last night. Mum has decided she wont attend the funeral (extremely vulberable) but I need to go to support my Dad. I'm praying they keep numbers at 30.

Someaddedsugar · 09/10/2020 14:13

@FrolickingLemon Thanks I hope you're all ok.

MissEWeatherwax · 09/10/2020 14:27

Durham was pretty empty, I will be avoiding.
I can’t be bothered to go back to queuing. Will just stick to Arnison or C-H-L now. They have finally started on the bus station. It will still be horrible, unless they can get rid of the undesirables.Locals will know who I mean.
Heard on the news that some of students aren’t allowed out, hope they can still have food delivered.

I do most of my food shopping in there, so i'm sure I can attempt a mercy mission for you.

I saw that students have been promised warm, healthy food. Hopefully they feel less abandoned than the students in uncatered halls in Newcastle.

I need some thread because my attempt at ordering some with the fabric I've just had delivered widely missed the mark, so I'll probably visit the market, on Monday.

IggyAce · 09/10/2020 15:37

@Snoringferret that’s a lovely idea, perhaps the gift can be chosen from a local business so we support them too. I know a couple of fab ones for bath bombs and wish strings based in Teesside.

JeanClaudeVanDammit · 09/10/2020 16:56

This was an interesting article in the Chronicle:
www.chroniclelive.co.uk/news/north-east-news/public-health-newcastle-pubs-closure-19080595.amp?__twitter_impression=true

I’ve worked with Eugene Milne before and would absolutely trust his view over and above national politicians and advisors who don’t have so much insight into the local position. Hopefully what he believes is the case turns out to be true.

JeanClaudeVanDammit · 09/10/2020 16:57

I like that idea @Snoringferret and also @IggyAce suggestion to support local businesses!

BessieSurtees · 09/10/2020 17:24

I've just read this, can't see anything about self employment. www.chroniclelive.co.uk/news/north-east-news/treasury-pay-two-thirds-wages-19079473

Snoringferret · 09/10/2020 17:32

bessie I know Sad

And as far as I can tell it's only applicable if somewhere has to close completely but then it's not going to cover any other costs.

I think they should be helping the businesses who adapt too, so places doing takeaway and pivoting, otherwise they're encouraging people to just close rather than pivot.

But on the other hand it might mean we're in a shorter lockdown as they'll be desperate to pull us out.
I can imagine all the people in the yellow areas being really pissed off at having their businesses strangled and no support.

Snoringferret · 09/10/2020 17:34

Also it says it's in place until jan so that gives us an idea of how long they think this round could last ConfusedConfusedConfused

InTheLongGrass · 09/10/2020 17:39

@IggyAce could I have the bath bombs in Teesside details, please?

Also, added to the Treasury to pay if forced to close, what about those supplying the closed businesses? So, the produce suppliers for the pubs and restaurants? They arent forced to close, but I know of several who will have their business practically destroyed again.

I was at dalton park earlier. Fairly quiet, except for M&S.

Someaddedsugar Strength to you at this difficult time Flowers

LaBelleSauvage123 · 09/10/2020 17:41

Have only just read this thread but wanted to say that my Covid positive DS in a Newcastle uncatered hall doesn’t feel at all abandoned - he’s just had a £50 food voucher and offers of help with medicine and other emergency supplies from the university. The reception staff are being great at delivering parcels and food orders etc. He’s stir crazy but still very upbeat.

PickAChew · 09/10/2020 17:44

I'm glad he's bring looked after @LaBelleSauvage123

Stale sandwiches make a better sadface story in the local press, of course.

Snoringferret · 09/10/2020 17:45

That's really lovely to hear labelle

Can I ask you if he has symptoms?

IggyAce · 09/10/2020 17:50

@InTheLongGrass it’s Mrs Snowballs Bubbles boutique, fab bath bombs I actually found her from a mumsnet recommendation and couldn’t believe that it was pretty much on my door step. I arrange to collect instead of paying postage.

LaBelleSauvage123 · 09/10/2020 17:50

Yes he does - in the second week now, but started with a cough, fatigue and mild temperature, all if which went off after a couple of days, but the fatigue and temp have returned this week, along with a loss of smell and decreased appetite. His whole flat have the same symptoms - fatigue being the worst - but none of them are really ill.
