@RedCatBlueCat

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-tees-48024370

Middlesbrough is in the ceremonial county of North Yorks - however from the 19th century it was a county borough (i.e not controlled by the wider county) then had a confused development of county teeside, then county cleveland then back to its own authority....

But yep, Middlesbrough is "covered" by the Lord Lieutenant of North Yorks

Rosehip10 · 30/09/2020 09:21

@NeurotrashWarrior Thing is way more workers are "key" other than NHS clinical staff and the police....

Hmm interesting

But would you have said it was north Yorkshire? I very much think of it as North East. Thanks for sharing.

PennyDreadfuI · 30/09/2020 12:02

@Bearfrills vampire trash is my favourite kind of trash. I shall investigate!

@4forkssake yes that's it! DD will be very disappointed that it wasn't aliens or similar. Tbh the way this year is going it wouldn't surprise me if it had been Grin

The Boro question has had me stumped for years too, I always considered it the NE but people I know who are from there consider it N Yorks.

Yesterday in Gosforth central park there were loads of people very obviously not from the same households mixing - perhaps they were having a last hurrah before it became law not to. Never mind, today they can nip over to the courtyard of the Job Bulman or sit outside the Brandling and it'll be perfectly legal. It seems completely bonkers that it's ok to sit together outside a pub where there's alcohol which diminishes SD etc but if you want to meet other mums and babies in the park for a few hours on a sunny afternoon you're breaking the law. It's just nonsensical!

My husband is from Middlesbrough and describes himself as from North Yorkshire but I think he’s just trying to sound posher, as none of the rest of his family do that.

NotQuiteUsual · 30/09/2020 15:04

Teachers were handing out the children's online learning login details at home time today sparking all sorts of quiet panic on the playground Grin I just think they want to get homework all paperless. Much easier with all this going on.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 30/09/2020 15:39

Our school has started surveying the parents on what they have at home (Wi-Fi, devices etc) and what sort of home learning parents would be able to facilitate.

Thelongdarkteatime · 30/09/2020 15:56

Argh. Just had a phone call cancelling my opticians appointment next week as the optician is isolating. I hope they’re ok but it’s so annoying: it’s taken eight weeks to get that appointment and it’s now delayed another fortnight.

Plussizejumpsuit · 30/09/2020 18:32

Just had good news from my sister. The covid test for her baby was negative. So the older one can go to nursery tomorrow and they can stop isolating. So but of good news! Interesting opinions in Middlesbrough. @BikeTyson I do wonder if the North Yorkshire description is a bit of wanting to be a bit posher!
@PennyDreadfuI I do think it's quite devided. I wonder of people in the city feel differently to the more rural villages? Or if its just a background / family thing. Feel like replies so far are inconclusive.

Hope everyone is OK? I'm trying to change the bedding on this grey evening but I've lay on it and now I'm not doing much....

Yes I get it. I've been helping my grandma navigate some health care. We waited a month for an appointment. Then it was replaced with a phone call due to a covid outbreak so loads of questions went unanswered. I know it can't be help but I do wonder how much is missed right now.

Well, in Northumberland you can meet in a pub garden, but you are advised not to.
The difference between law and guidance is clear on the Northumberland council website.

Ellapaella · 30/09/2020 19:02

Not at all consistent then is it? Northumberland's restrictions are different to those on the government website and Gateshead and North Tyneside council 🤷‍♀️

Ellapaella · 30/09/2020 19:05

According to the government guideline below the rules regarding not meeting outdoors in pub gardens also applies to
Northumberland. They need to sort it out - how is anyone meant to know if they are breaking the law or not with all these conflicting rules?

Totally lost off by the rules, was hoping to meet friends for lunch this weekend (who are also work colleagues who all sit together in a tiny office) but looks like that’ll be off.

Had a trip to the metro today, queued to get in Zara but there was barely any stock when I got instead, on the other hand primary had no queuing system and was absolutely rammed just as usual! Everyone had masks on throughout tho, but was quite busy for a weekday morning!

Dementedswan · 30/09/2020 21:33

According to an update by my local council ward... bear in mind our small town is split into two council wards... 13% of Northumberland cases are within less than a mile of my house...

tinydancerss · 30/09/2020 21:41

@Brieminewine I was at the metro on Monday and your right Zara had hardly any stock.
I don't think I queued for any other store.
Today in Newcastle city centre people in groups in a few coffee shops.
I'm assuming they all don't live together 🤷‍♀️

Theaspidistraiswilting · 30/09/2020 21:44

Hello NE ladies! Does anyone have a link for the free Pizza Express voucher for Jesmond? DatBar on market street do fantastic pizzas if you need an alternative for the Dean street one.

Also Middlesbrough comes under Cleveland Police not North Yorkshire, same as the Ambulance comes under NEAS, not Yorkshire Ambulance service! The whole thing is bonkers!!!

Patienceisvirtuous · 01/10/2020 05:51

Can I jump in? Sunderland here.
Finding it depressing now! :(

PennyDreadfuI · 01/10/2020 09:03

@Theaspidistraiswilting DatBar is my favourite bar (at least since Bierrex closed). Their food is gorgeous.

Some slightly more hopeful news this morning I see, in that cases seem to be falling. And the BBC said yesterday that the doomsday scenario of cases doubling every week isn't happening, and we're far better placed going into autumn/winter than we were in March. You've got to cling to the positives haven't you!

What a beautiful morning in Newcastle. Just the sort of day I love to go up the coast, hot chocolate at Mr Woods and a walk along the front. Sigh. Stupid essential journeys only.

@Patienceisvirtuous welcome! 👋 It is rather, isn't it. I usually nip down to Sunderland quite often but I haven't been since before All This. I'm craving those frog cakes from Mullers. And their cheese straws 🤤

OP posts:
Patienceisvirtuous · 01/10/2020 09:09

@PennyDreadfuI DS loves the frog cakes! I like the peach melbas and coconut macaroons 😍

Rosehip10 · 01/10/2020 10:49

Just announced - large parts of Teeside coming under Newcastle style local lockdown.

Rosehip10 · 01/10/2020 10:52

@GalaxyCookieCrumble The policing comes from the 1974 boundary changes when County Cleveland was formed (which ceased to exist in 1996)

PennyDreadfuI · 01/10/2020 11:08

@Patienceisvirtuous mmmmcoconut macaroons... Surely getting a Mullers fix counts as essential?!

@Rosehip10 I saw that. Lots of the north west, too. Soon all the local lockdowns will just join up and be a national one.
