West End of Newcastle here and no Toilet Roll shortages as of yet !!

PickAChew · 24/09/2020 22:49

My parents are a way away, too, stottie

We normally see them 3 or 4 times a year. Managed to get down there for the first time since new year in July and was hoping to get down again at half term, reckoning that things might be tricky again by Christmas. Well I mis-estimated that one :(

Plussizejumpsuit · 24/09/2020 22:51

I've come for refuge here from a thread where lots of people seem to think mental health isn't a thing or people can just buck themselves up! I'm covered in sudocrem to help sooth my allergic reaction hives.

@ScottishStottie I agree this is an especially hard time. I feel like it's got potential to feel worse than match because we know what it will be like. Sorry you're feeling not great about you're job security.

ScottishStottie · 24/09/2020 22:57

Im hoping that the company will survive, but probably with harsh reduncancies. I know that im well thought off so hope i survive but who knows.

Parents are very rural scotland, so had planned to meet in glasgow in october. But now new restrictions mean they might not be comfortable travelling. Where they live have still not had any covid cases and my job put me at risk.of exposure so.very wary about it all. Just a bit rubbish really.

GalaxyCookieCrumble · 25/09/2020 05:34

Morning all, hope we all are well heading into the weekend, i have not slept a wink, I am absolutely freezing, the temperature has most definitely dropped, winter on it's way!

GingerandTilly · 25/09/2020 05:54

Hello bonnie lasses. Can I join? Very tired North Durham parent and teacher here x

DurhamDurham · 25/09/2020 07:29

Good morning, hope everyone is ok this damp, bleak day. I'm in Chester-le-Steet and am going out today even if it doesn't stop raining. I find the days too long if I don't break it up with an outing. I don't work Fridays so tend to go out for a walk and a cuppa somewhere. Fingers crossed the weather cheers up for the weekend.

Look after yourselves Smile

Bearfrills · 25/09/2020 07:29

Same @GalaxyCookieCrumble, took me ages to switch my mind off and then when I did start to settle, DS1 decided to pop his bedroom light on and start chatting to me across the landing at bloody 2am. He went back to sleep after I told him the time and that we could talk about cherry blossoms tomorrow (of all subjects, this was his burning issue at that time of night) but that was me wide awake for the rest of the night. Lazing in bed at the moment while DH sorts breakfasts and uniforms.

Welcome to the thread @GingerandTilly and @ScottishStottie and any other newcomers I've missed.

@Plussizejumpsuit I saw that thread but didn't comment because I couldn't put together any response that didn't include the words "are you joking me!?". The stigma is alive and well on mumsnet when it comes to certain topics.

Dockray · 25/09/2020 08:31

I've caught a back to school bug from smallest child. No cough, temp or loss of smell/taste but sinusitis and swollen glands. I feel terrible and am going to spend the day in bed.

Plussizejumpsuit · 25/09/2020 09:15

Morning all. Feels cold today! We haven't used the heating yet since before summer. But think it's the time! Hope you feel better soon @Dockray I'm still feeling quite wiped out from being ill.

@Bearfrills I should have just left the thread alone. I will learn one day! I haven't been back to it though so progress...

Got colmans chippy click and collect booked for the evening. We normally get it and park up near the sea to eat it. Both me and my dp have a week off next week so nice treat to start our time off. Then flu jab tomorrow. Whoop!

Plussizejumpsuit · 25/09/2020 09:16

What is everyone else up to this coming weekend?

NeurotrashWarrior · 25/09/2020 09:18

Hi Ginger.

Tired teacher here too.

Morale is low at work.

One if the hardest things is where and how staff eat lunches.

Bearfrills · 25/09/2020 09:20

We're having a movie night tonight, just finished a new blanket for the sofa so there'll be lots of cuddling under it. Tomorrow we'll walk down to the beach then in the evening going to order take away and put the tent up in the front room so the kids can go pretend camping and sleep in it. Sunday I might make a roast dinner.

Not very exciting but fun, I hope.

PickAChew · 25/09/2020 09:29

I've slipped into doing very little at the weekends. Sometimes walk onto town but with freshers arriving this weekend I shall be giving it a wide berth.

Need to get some shopping in, today, so I shall walk to markses, this morning. I usually give dh a call to pick me up again. Thankfully, so long as he isn't on a meeting, he has enough flexibility in his job to take a break when he likes.

Our heating is on a timed thermostat but it was so cold yesterday that I nudged it up a little, after lunch. The room that dh works in is always about 3C colder than the rest of the house and a bit damp and has a ridiculously tiny radiator in the bay window. That needs replacing and half the walls re-plastering but what was to be a project for this summer gone obviously couldn't happen, so we have another winter of trying to stop mushrooms from growing in there!

Dowser · 25/09/2020 09:29

Nice sunny morning here in N Yorks at our caravan The normally ok internet, never brilliant, has now gone on strike again. I’m cowering under the bed covers , wearing a fleece jacket as the temp plummets in this tin can we love so much. I applaud all of you who haven’t used your heating. Mine is never off. In that if I feel chilly, on it goes ..yes even in July and August.

In a minute, when mr d comes out of the bathroom, I will find out if we have any heating or not.

If not, then our plumber will come from home to sort it out.
After that, I don’t know.
I feel tired.

UpToonGirl · 25/09/2020 09:57

@Plussizejumpsuit very jealous of your Coleman's!

Is everyone finding that their local friends and family are following guidelines? My friend just turned up at my doorstep this morning to pop round for a cuppa...I said no but tbh I made up an excuse rather than saying I wanted to follow guidelines. From my experience most people are following 'the rules' in terms of not going to each others house/cafe/pub but are having a chat at school drop offs, walking home together. Also I have seen a few people at the park and we've had a bit of a natter but that's been unplanned.

I was just a bit taken a back by my friend, she sent me a message after saying she might pop round on Tuesday as I wasn't free today...

I'd ask her if she lives under a rock.

UpToonGirl · 25/09/2020 11:24

@PickAChew I was just so surprised I blanked a bit. It did make me wonder how much compliance there has been, more because she was so casual. As I said, I'm not exactly crossing the road to avoid people but I wouldn't be asking anyone round for a cuppa. I don't have FB or follow people in Insta so sometimes I feel a bit out of the loop and was wondering if I'm the only one sticking to the rules!

gingercat02 · 25/09/2020 11:41

Cold blustery day at the coast. I'm at work for another hour. Then pick up the click and collect order, have lunch with the work from home DH and might pop round to see my support bubble DM. No idea what we are doing for the weekend. Not a lot I imagine 😥

blitzen · 25/09/2020 11:44

Hello from Gateshead! Sorry I missed the previous thread. Nice to have a NE one.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 25/09/2020 12:08

Our weekend is pending results Grin so either hunkering down for two weeks or we will rejoice in the negative and go for a long walk.

PickAChew · 25/09/2020 12:25

Food shop - achievement unlocked

The car park is absolutely bonkers so goodness knows where dh is going to park up.

Dementedswan · 25/09/2020 12:46

Cases are rising fast here, most schools have 2 or 3 year groups off. So far my DC school is fine - touchwood! An awful lot of people for such a small place are testing positive so this weekend we will be walking the dog, playing board games, movie night. Its dc birthday on sunday too.

BikeTyson · 25/09/2020 12:47

Is everyone finding that their local friends and family are following guidelines?

Close friends and family and colleagues seem to be. Have seen a few things on social media which suggest some more casual acquaintances are not.

Must admit I arranged to be at the playground with DD at the same time as a friend and her DS. I think banning even meeting someone at a distance outdoors is a step too far and it’s not a rule I’ll be sticking to. Judging by the playground, a lot of others seem to feel the same way. But if it keeps people from meeting indoors then I’m all for it.

MissEWeatherwax · 25/09/2020 13:10

Went to Newcastle today, pretty quiet. I don’t think even John Lewis/Waitrose/ Fenwicks will tempt me back. The bus took 1.25 minutes because it now goings around the world. I’ll save my money. But at least it’s stopped raining. At the moment I’m enjoying Chester-Le-Street rather than Durham(never thought I would say that).
