How long did your test results take?

coronawonashona · 21/09/2020 17:47

I had the test at 12.30 Saturday lunchtime at a drive in centre and still nothing. They actually told me they should be back in 24 hours (though I was skeptical of this) but now I'm worried the test may have got lost.

Has anyone else had their results later than 48 hours?

Tested at 1pm on Monday and got the result at 7am this morning.

LindaEllen · 23/09/2020 12:52

Mine took 4 days but that was back in April when things weren't as slick (not that they seem much better now!)

booboo24 · 23/09/2020 13:53

In July mine took 22 hours, last week my daughter was tested and hers took just under 24 hours. We are SE but not London

ElephantsAlltheWayDown · 23/09/2020 15:11

SE here. We took a test Saturday at 10:30 and got results Monday at 22:00. Didn't quite meet the 48 hour window but was glad not to have to wait another day!

IHateCoronavirus · 23/09/2020 15:55

NEGATIVE! Wine I have never felt so happy with failure! Hello life, hello school, hello work, we are on our way!

whataboutbob · 23/09/2020 15:59

Well done and I hope to post a similar message soon!🤞

BlueGreyGreens · 23/09/2020 16:02

Hurrah @IHateCoronavirus! How long did you wait in the end?

Mumof3teens · 23/09/2020 16:07

DGS (10 months) - test yesterday lunchtime. Result 7am today Negative (although DS and DDiL both Drs, so couldn’t go to work until result - not sure if that speeded anything up?). Manchester

Zebrasandfairytales · 23/09/2020 16:17

That’s great @IHateCoronavirus - please for you!!

Still waiting here... 80hrs since test... losing hope...

user1490814754 · 23/09/2020 16:43

Still waiting since test on Sat am. Its now been 'escalated' whatever that may mean. Fingers crossed.

whataboutbob · 23/09/2020 16:48

Just come through. Negative 🥳. About 78 hours, in London.

innitbloodysuper · 23/09/2020 16:57

Exactly 24 hours since test on my 12yo, West Yorkshire walk-through test site. I won't worry until it gets to 72 hours.

BlueGreyGreens · 23/09/2020 17:47

Yay @whataboutbob!

74 hours and counting here... anyone been waiting longer?

Considering trying to get a private test tomorrow as it's day 5 and frankly none of us can afford to be holed up for another 9 days if the test is lost/inconclusive etc.

BlueGreyGreens · 23/09/2020 17:49

(Of people still waiting I mean, I know others have waited far longer than 74, sadly, but got results eventually or put them down as lost)

Zebrasandfairytales · 23/09/2020 18:04

@BlueGreyGreens still waiting... it’s been 80+ hours for us now. I’ve written to my local Cllr about it and she’s going to feedback to public health, as she’s heard from many residents. She said because it’s outsourced there’s not much they will be able to do but try to influence national policy.

BlueGreyGreens · 23/09/2020 18:17

@Zebrasandfairytales Sad

It's so frustrating. Fingers crossed tomorrow is the day we can head out in the morning as normal! I work in a school and worry that people think I'm taking the piss- can't bear to have to tell them there's no result and I'm forced to be off another week, they are short staffed as it is. Luckily DH can work from home but he's got important meetings next week.

Wish I'd never got the testing done. Rightly or wrongly I feel like we are being punished for being responsible and following the rules. Friends of mine have just kept their cold-ridden kids off to conceal the inevitable cough that follows the cold going round here, and skirted round the testing debacle altogether. I wouldn't have had that option this time, but if my 14 year old follows suit I'd be tempted (unless there was evidence of local circulation- which there isn't currently- half the secondary school off and zero Covid cases).

To add insult to injury I've come down with thrush and we can't even go and get me a pessary! Not the sort of thing I particularly fancy asking someone else to drop on the doorstep either 🙈🙈🙈 Hopefully my online ordering will arrive tomorrow. You couldn't make it up!

missanony · 23/09/2020 18:19

78 hours here blue

missanony · 23/09/2020 18:20

I’m really regretting getting the test too

vodkaredbullgirl · 23/09/2020 18:33

At work we got no choice but get tested every week.

Char2015 · 23/09/2020 18:37

Why are people regretting getting the test? Surely it's better to know? Either way, you still have to isolate, potentially longer without having the test.

I'm about 49 hours since I posted home test for myself and DD. I'm assuming they would have received it some point yesterday. From there, I don't no how long it takes to start process on test, how long process takes so not really expecting any results in time for kids to get back to school this week (if neg)

Zebrasandfairytales · 23/09/2020 18:52

@BlueGreyGreens I agree. My husband also works in a school and feels terrible as they are short staffed. Much the same as your place. But our double-whammy is that my DH is also self-employed so he is losing income every day.

I have to agree that I too have had those thoughts. And then I feel awful. Because I saw a post on here the other day where a child tested positive and had the exact same symptoms as my DD. My DD has classmates with underlying health conditions and additional needs, one of whom sits next to her, I wouldn’t forgive myself if she passed it on to one of them.

We have done the right thing! I still stand by that. It does just feel like we are being punished for it though...

BlueGreyGreens · 23/09/2020 19:11

Why are people regretting getting the test?

@Char2015 I suppose I don't regret it really, because it's the responsible thing to do, but although my child met the criteria for a test he's in a school where tonnes of kids are off with exactly the same sore throat/coughing virus, and despite a shitload of them being sent home over the last fortnight+ (and not allowed back without proof of a negative test) none have tested positive. Zero. Odds are overwhelmingly in favour of my DS being negative.

I wouldn't have an issue at all had the test come back within 48 hours, but now I'm being told (75 hours later) by 119 that I might not even get a result, it might be lost, due to demand caused by people like my DS. Can't redo a lost test if it's deemed lost after 5 days of symptoms so that's a whole fortnight of the entire household being isolated!

If the system worked at the moment I'd be totally on board and a huge advocate of people playing safe- as it is I'll use a lot more discretion next time.

Idontbelieveit12 · 23/09/2020 19:55

30 hours. Tested Monday lunch time result tuesday teatime. NW

KooKooKachu · 23/09/2020 19:57

Well I'm 13 days in.... still nothing! I assume it's been lost.

School wont let the kids back in even though we've been in isolation for 2 weeks tomorrow. They need to see a negative test result. I ended up getting another test tonight at a walk in test centre 15 miles away. Fucking fuming.

SnapeSnapeSeverusSnape · 23/09/2020 20:15

I've not heard that before Kookoo! How annoying! Thankfully both my children's schools, although they require you to isolate for 14 days, will then let them back even without a test.
