How long did your test results take?

I had the test at 12.30 Saturday lunchtime at a drive in centre and still nothing. They actually told me they should be back in 24 hours (though I was skeptical of this) but now I'm worried the test may have got lost.

Has anyone else had their results later than 48 hours?

I am so fed up. Still waiting here (47 hours, so not as long as some).

Agree it's not sustainable. The thought of my other kids coming down with this cough in turn and then having to go through this palaver every time fills me with total dread.

Interesting that no one on these threads seems particularly concerned about a positive result... possibly because we are all confident we are dealing with usual colds etc. I would fall off my chair if I tested positive, it just seems so unlikely given I'm surrounded by kids with cold coughs who've all tested negative (school).

Exasperating.

ShouldWeChangeTheBulb · 22/09/2020 15:10

72 hours.
Positive Confused

whataboutbob · 22/09/2020 15:11

Same here I’m convinced either 1) I’ll never get test result back, it’s lost or 2) it’ll be negative.
I think that due to the all pervasiveness of covid in our lives now, when I get a new symptom I jump anxiously to the conclusion it could be covid. Whereas before I’d have seen it for what it most probably is, a seasonal virus which will pass. I would also be very surprised if it was positive.

BlueGreyGreens · 22/09/2020 15:12

Blimey, did that just come through @ShouldWeChangeTheBulb? How are you feeling?

whataboutbob · 22/09/2020 15:13

Oops posted too soon. Sorry @ShouldWeChangeTheBulb. Hope you get over it quick.

Zebrasandfairytales · 22/09/2020 15:14

@whataboutbob @BlueGreyGreens I agree. I’m worried it will really put people off self-isolating and cause actual Covid cases to multiply.

If the 24-48hr timescale was accurate then it’s doable for a lot of people, but judging by the responses on this thread most people’s are going way past that. It’s not sustainable. We’re losing a significant amount of money (to us) each day we can’t work.

Trying to tell myself we are doing the right thing and that’s what’s important. But worried about money and have a sinking feeling that it may be another day or two, maybe longer.

Zebrasandfairytales · 22/09/2020 15:16

@ShouldWeChangeTheBulb oh no! Are you ok?

ShouldWeChangeTheBulb · 22/09/2020 15:19

It’s my DS he is totally fine with very mild symptoms. Mild cough, bit snotty and bad throat he hasn’t had a temp or anything else.

Gribbie · 22/09/2020 15:29

ShouldWeChangeTheBulb half my kids primary school have similar symptoms to that - I assumed that snot =/= covid so haven't got mine tested.

Zebrasandfairytales · 22/09/2020 15:29

Hope he feels better soon! Sounds like the exact same symptoms as my daughter, although her cough is much better than it was.

ChallyCreaks · 22/09/2020 15:35

We're on 53 hours now for DS. DDs are getting very impatient waiting for the results and DD1 is threatening to go to school tomorrow as it's gcse year and she's worried about missing more school. It's so bloody frustrating.

I had a test done two weeks ago and had the results back in less than 24 hours.

tigerbear · 22/09/2020 15:41

52 hours here, nothing back. DP called them earlier, and they hinted that we may never receive them/they may just be lost. WTF! Confused

glowworm93 · 22/09/2020 15:52

DP called them earlier, and they hinted that we may never receive them/they may just be lost.

They said the same to me but they did turn up. Eventually.

Zebrasandfairytales · 22/09/2020 16:47

I’ve just spoken to the call centre, they are escalating it as my DH is a key worker. They said that tests are getting lost or timing out due to the sheer volume. If we don’t hear by Friday we have to assume we will never get our results and restart the whole process again.

Totally fed up!

Theforest · 22/09/2020 16:48

A friend got her negative test back in 4 hours.

PeachiceT · 22/09/2020 16:52

Ds had test 10.30 on a Sat and rest results by 8am folleing day 👍

timtam23 · 22/09/2020 16:56

Last week had to take DC to a drive-in centre. Test was done just after 9am, result emailed to us at just after midnight. So around 15 hours. I was pretty surprised it was so quick, as there were so many reports of the labs struggling to process the deluge of tests

AMC8583 · 22/09/2020 17:00

I'm so glad I found this thread. My 3 year old daughter had her test on 17th September at noon. Its nearly 5pm on the 22nd and nothing. Both my husband and I have missed work, nursery won't let back without a -ve test (which I totally understand) and I missed an important fertility scan. I'm so angry. Am I to presume it's a lost test result? Or has anyone waited longer than this? Xx

AMC8583 · 22/09/2020 17:01

Oh yes, I've also rung to "escalate" the issue via email which they have done, so they tell me. Who knows what's going on.

IHateCoronavirus · 22/09/2020 17:04

Everyone ringing to escalate. How are you getting through? I just keep getting hung up on Sad

tigerbear · 22/09/2020 17:05

@AMC8583 A few people on this thread waited around 10 days 😬

tigerbear · 22/09/2020 17:06

@IHateCoronavirus you select the option to get a test, then when you get through to someone, tell them you’ve already had one.
The person DP spoke to on the phone earlier seemed pretty clueless tbh.

AMC8583 · 22/09/2020 17:12

@tigerbear 10 days is ridiculous, where is our "world class" testing system we were promised? My daughter is at nursery which is basically a germ breading ground. How sustainable is it to continually get her and other children in school tested when they present with one or more of the main symptoms? I'm so worried about the up coming winter months.

perfumeistooexpensive · 22/09/2020 17:15

I'm in the south east. Test 12.00 Sunday. Result 14.00 Monday. Negative too.

AMC8583 · 22/09/2020 17:22

@Zebrasandfairytales I was told that if my daughter was no longer presenting symptoms, I shouldn't get her re tested, which I understand. If your family member is still presenting symptoms then it totally makes sense to re test, even though it's impossible to get a test date. I feel your frustration.
