When will there be a backlash against these rule breakers?

We know the government made errors back in March. They should have locked down quicker and messed up with care homes. However, the issue now is people not following rules. House parties, raves, mixing in big groups. People are blaming the government for the new rule of 6 and not the shameless delinquents who have been breaking rules.

The government have issued a clear warning to people with the new legislation. Follow the rules or cases will get worse and further restrictions will come. How long till people snap at those who aren't taking this seriously? The tolerance of the law abiding majority can only stretch so far.

PS - leave Cummings out of it. This is about the here and now.

@Jaxhog

I’m fucking pissed off at anyone who thinks their so special the guidelines don’t apply to them and add to the already shit situation all because of their precious opinions.

Me too. These people don't give a fig for those of us having to shield. We are NOT all at the end of our lives, but we ARE affected when selfish people can't be bothered or think they are too special to follow the rules.

It's not even so much the "i've been good for 5 months and i'm bored now" crowd that are the main problem; it's the subsection of sociopaths who have not give a fuck from the start and will do whatever they can get away with.

If people continue to flout the rules and we end up with another strict lockdown again where you’re scared to leave the house incase a police car pulls you over to check you’re on essential business then I think people will be pissed off and blame the rule breakers.

However I can’t see that we can afford to do that.

So it’ll be deaths instead. And if people aren’t directly affected they probably won’t care. It’s only if a friend or family member dies that they may then be pissed off with rule breakers.

But yes, I’m more pissed off with the government. Senior people who should have known better breaking rules and then saying that was ok. Boris not sacking the twat. Confusing and conflicting rules. Lack of testing, lack of tracking, not enforcing quarantine, not testing people at airports, sending elderly Covid Patients into care homes......the govt can take more responsibility for this mess than any rule breakers.

I don’t think I’m special. I just think the rules are illogical and frankly about compliance and control rather than protection.

I’m open to being convinced, that whilst spending the day with over 1000 children in school, it’s actually not seeing my own (young and working) mum and dad that will protect us all from Covid.

No one yet is able to explain that one to me, so until then, I’ll pass on blindly following ridiculous rules.

Population - 70 million. Police - 120,000, army - 80,000.

There is no way any of it is enforceable.

Devlesko · 12/09/2020 12:58

The gov didn't follow the rules, canny virus that, making gov unable to catch the virus. Of course cummings is the here and now.

People were told to go out to keep the economy going, this is what should anger you if you are really worried about the spread of a cold that nobody is dying of.

NewAutumnName · 12/09/2020 13:00

Apparently Birmingham has a rate of 85 per 100,000 for infections.....hot spot central you would think.

Germany
Berlin is 303 per 100,000
Bavaria is 453 per 100,000

They don't appear to be panicking though

EvilPea · 12/09/2020 13:01

I firmly lay blame at Cummings door.
Up until then, we were in it together. We were all locked down, singing happy birthday.
Then Cummings happened and it turned out they weren’t laws but just guidance, the government then started to unravel lockdown measures, they felt very quickly rushed out to distract.
It then became clear we were on our own, making our own decisions, our own risk assessments. With all respect for guidance out the window.
With the poor police left getting all the flack and stick for not doing right for doing wrong.

Yellowbutterfly1 · 12/09/2020 13:01

I see that the over 50’s are now the current group to be blamed.

Which group of people will be next?

NewAutumnName · 12/09/2020 13:02

I guess if people are all blaming each other it diverts from the government

Funkypolar · 12/09/2020 13:03

Just look at all the anger on Mumsnet, so many comments that are pure nastiness. Hey, don’t blame the government, turn on each other instead.

Yellowbutterfly1 · 12/09/2020 13:04

Exactly NewAutumnName. Divide and conquer at it’s finest.

Germany has outperformed us in survival rates and treatment. Frankly I’m morbidly impressed the government has recognised their own limitations.
year5teacher · 12/09/2020 13:17

All the government want is for the people to blame each other. That’s why they’re saying it’s all young people when they’ve spent the summer actively encouraging people to go out to eat, opened gyms, shops, etc.. who the fuck knows anymore?

MarshaBradyo · 12/09/2020 13:21

To be fair mn runs on people putting blame elsewhere and others responding a lot of the time so this will be the same.

There’s a lot of emotive ott language around too, except for a couple of sensible threads

Nat6999 · 12/09/2020 13:49

It's bloody annoying that we are being told no more than 6 can be together & we will be punished if we break the rules but Dominic Cummings got away with breaking all the rules. If he had been punished then maybe more would stick to the rules.

Pomegranatepompom · 12/09/2020 15:07

I honestly don’t understand why there isn’t more outrage re DC and also the failings of test and trace.

EvilPea · 12/09/2020 15:20

I did write to my mp about Dominic Cummings and got told to move on!!!
I can’t move on.
I think it left the news but the outrage just moved on to the next fuck up.

Test and trace is ludicrous and so is our testing. I vaguely remember them saying they could only get schools back If the app, track, trace and test was in place and running

How’s that working out???!

FizzAfterSix · 12/09/2020 15:30

OP, have you thought about applying to be a Covid Marshall?

HeIenaDove · 12/09/2020 15:36

Christmas won't be cancelled. Financially it is too big a contributor to the economy, and people also just won't wear that. I would flout that one

They only have to wait till the 22nd Dec to 24th to impose restrictions. Its the RUN UP to Christmas they wouldnt want to cancel because thats when the money is spent. Christmas itself they would have no qualms................

TSSDNCOP · 12/09/2020 18:20

I wrote in disgust to my MP about Cummings too. I had no reply. My MP is Adam Holloway, and he is a prick.

I have zero respect for this government and their dickish handling of everything associated with the pandemic. I cannot listen to the briefings and the sight of Hancock induces acid reflux.

But I will do as I am asked. I will follow the rules. I still have faith that the scientists are the best source of guidance. I will wear my mask, SI and test, socially distance and all the rest. I have had to cut people out that don't because if I cannot trust them what's the point in me doing it?

The cynic in me says the rule of 6 is a diversion away from the Brexit debacle. It's got Cummings' grubby little fingerprints all over it.

Derbygerbil · 12/09/2020 18:29

Hmm Yes, that’s right, it’s not even “just the flu” now, it’s “just a cold”... ffs

I highly doubt more would have stuck to the rules. It’s just an excuse.

If one person shoplifts and isn’t prosecuted it doesn’t mean everyone else can.

cologne4711 · 12/09/2020 19:47

I don’t think I’m special. I just think the rules are illogical and frankly about compliance and control rather than protection

To an extent yes. Just had an argument with ds actually who says how can you have schools open when you can't meet up in groups of more than 6. Did try to explain risk and reward - education more important than partying etc but he wasn't having any of it.

Anyway, I don't think I am special and I don't have a dog, but if I were told to isolate, I'd still take my dog out for a walk, because the risks of outdoor transmission are almost non-existent, and completely non-existent if you don't see anyone else.

OpenlyGayExOlympicFencer · 12/09/2020 21:55

If you want analysis of this topic without Cummings OP, it'll be useless. It happened and it had a significant impact: we know this.

I have thought the same about diversions myself TSSDN.
