When will there be a backlash against these rule breakers?

We know the government made errors back in March. They should have locked down quicker and messed up with care homes. However, the issue now is people not following rules. House parties, raves, mixing in big groups. People are blaming the government for the new rule of 6 and not the shameless delinquents who have been breaking rules.

The government have issued a clear warning to people with the new legislation. Follow the rules or cases will get worse and further restrictions will come. How long till people snap at those who aren't taking this seriously? The tolerance of the law abiding majority can only stretch so far.

PS - leave Cummings out of it. This is about the here and now.

Sick to death of the Cummings excuse, agree that whoever spouts it sounds like a whinging petulant teen, he’s allowed to do it so why can’t I, pathetic. I’m fed up with restrictions and covid but will be sticking to the rules because I care about other people. End of.

Batshitbeautycosmeticsltd · 11/09/2020 21:11

No because people are fed up of this shit. I know that just burst a lot of peoples' balloons, but there's no manpower to police this so people will just crack on.

I'm sick of restrictions because of those not following the rules. One of the news headlines today said more ppl are annoyed over the rules breakers than they are over Brexit.

And that's exactly what they want. People are fucking fools to fall for it.

disorganisedsecretsquirrel · 11/09/2020 21:13

I'm going to keep working from home. Go back to ordering online, basically making my own decision to lock down. DH and I were both told to shield.. I do not trust this shower and further than I could spit .. and will make my own decisions to protect my own life.
I am sorry to say that hoping for people to have a sense of social responsibility to their fellow vulnerable man is just not possible. Just look on here at all the
'I've had enough'
I'm bored'
I won't die
My kids won't die
'I have a RIGHT to do as I please. '

These are the reasons why this thing will be back with a vengeance in a matter of weeks. Schools are enclosed spaces with packed with spreaders. And surprise surprise, the first place to get higher outbreaks was Scotland, now it's the rest of the UK.. stand back and watch it rampage through the population as Unis go back and freshers get into their stride. It really doesn't take a rocket scientist.

It is going to kill many many more elderly and vulnerable. It's the price of all the 'me,me, me' listed above. People literally don't care who dies - as long as it's not them..

My advice. ? If you are (were) on the shielding list I would be locking myself back down. If you can't WFH I would find a way to go on UC until winter has past. If I had school age children I would be deregistering and teaching from home. (Or finding out what the school can offer children of the shielding) I would be drastically restricting my life if I were elderly.

In short , I will not be trusting anyone to protect me - except me. Least of all this government.

Batshitbeautycosmeticsltd · 11/09/2020 21:13

But the government have been clear. If we want a normal Christmas we need to behave now and not break the rules. A lot of people will surely be angry at those breaking the rules if it means Christmas is cancelled.

Haahaahaa!! 'Now be good and you might get a sweetie.' C'mon, no one actually believes their claptrap anymore, do they? How do you cancel Christmas? I've already finished my shopping bar the food, which I'll get in a week or two.

gamerchick · 11/09/2020 21:16

And we can’t leave Cummings out of it. He destroyed people’s respect for the regulations. The effect of that is ongoing

This. As soon as this happened and the fucker got away with it, it was all downhill. People simply don't believe it anymore. Nobody likes getting their noses rubbed into a one rule for is and another for them. Even if they're consciously aware of it or not.

MadameBlobby · 11/09/2020 21:17

The government also said they’d send CV packing in 12 weeks back in March. Obviously the virus isn’t their fault but they talk complete shite. Anyone who believes that by following the rules they’ll get a normal Christmas is naive.

I’m not angry at those breaking rules. I wish I was brave enough to stick up two fingers at all of this shite. Sadly I’m a rule follower. The government don’t deserve the levels of compliance they’ve been getting let alone more.

Bollss · 11/09/2020 21:18

Ah yes keep your germ spreading kids at home. Cos that's a fab solution.

Cornettoninja · 11/09/2020 21:19

Who do you think benefits from compliance with restrictions?

Not us or we'd be free by now.
caughtalightsneeze · 11/09/2020 21:20

I have stuck to the rules all along and will continue to. It's no skin off my nose because I'm a homebody anyway.

But it's perfectly reasonable to point out that the hypocrisy of the government when it comes to Dominic Cummings. Essentially what they were saying is that the rules apply to you, the ordinary people, but not to everyone. If you're important enough, the rules don't apply.

People are not petulant teenagers for being angry about this stuff. People up and down the country have faced financial hardship the likes of which they never thought they would see. People who have always worked and always wanted to work being told that it was now illegal for them to operate their businesses and earn money to keep a roof over their head and food on their table. And they did that, for the greater good, only to see their Prime Minister's influential mate piss all over them because he was so much more important. Why the hell would they not be angry? And why would they listen to the rules now when it has been proven that they don't apply to everyone?

A lot of people will surely be angry at those breaking the rules if it means Christmas is cancelled. I would rather see my family (8 of us from 2 households) normally for the next three months than not see them for months and trust the government to then "allow" us to get together for one day.
Completely agree with you @KitKatastrophe

Well certainly not any of us. 6 months this pish has gone on for for what seems like zero benefit.

MadameBlobby · 11/09/2020 21:24

Exactly @TrustTheGeneGenie.

midgebabe · 11/09/2020 21:25

It seems no one can remember the problems the NHS faced last March and April, how many urgent procedures had to be cancelled as they had not enough beds, staff, PPE, and how easy it will be to get back in that situation

I suspect no one will do anything about rule breakers and fewer and fewer people will follow the rules until there is actually a catastrophe, whereupon there will be weeping and wailing that no one told me

Kind of like the people who were surprised at post holiday quarantine

MadameBlobby · 11/09/2020 21:25

The government only cared about the NHS not collapsing and how it would reflect on them. They don’t give two fucks about people dying.

Batshitbeautycosmeticsltd · 11/09/2020 21:26

If you can't WFH I would find a way to go on UC until winter has past.

You quit your job and you might likely be ineligible for UC. It takes a minimum of 5 weeks to get any payment and any 'advance' is a loan that is clawed back at quite a steep rate. It does not cover mortgages or interest on mortgages for many weeks so you may be looking at repossession by then with your credit trashed, and good look finding a private landlord who will take it (rent caps are also set by local housing associations and might not cover all the rent, probably won't).

You must also prove you are looking for FT work or face sanctions and you can be put on any 'placement' they deem fit, you can't sit at home because you're afraid of falling ill.

AndromedaPerseus · 11/09/2020 21:27

After the Alevel fiasco when it became Crystal clear neither BJ or the cabinet understood science or statistics or risk I have no faith in what they say about Covid. Amongst some of the questions which I would like them to be give a straight answer to are
*Why if hospitalisation and deaths are falling do they avoid mentioning but instead bang on about infection rates which went up as the number of tests done also went up

  • why not shield the vulnerable again if they are the ones most at risk
  • why not say households who practise multigeneration living are the cause of the highest rises in Covid and are elderly in them are the most vulnerable
  • Why have the vast majority of health workers who have worked through the pandemic and at high risk of infection not been particularly affected despite inadequate and often faulty PPE Unless a rule is logical and makes sense to me I’m be very skeptical about just following it blindly because some official tells me to. It all smacks of the brainwashing practised by cults and religions
Batshitbeautycosmeticsltd · 11/09/2020 21:34

why not say households who practise multigeneration living are the cause of the highest rises in Covid and are elderly in them are the most vulnerable

You know why. We all know why. Because it targets Asian people (I am Asian myself) who are most likely to live in this set up. All that carping on about how 'we' should have more multi-generation living, better for the environment, etc, it's out the window the second this show up, as well as care for the environment and single use plastics.

midgebabe · 11/09/2020 21:35

Hospitalisation seem to be on the rise, so deaths will follow , there is a huge lag in the system

Other countries have show that it is well nigh impossible to fully protect the vulnerable if the virus is in general circulation. Just the absolute basic of food and healthcare lead to interactions

Although I can quite see why no one might trust this government

TheGreatWave · 11/09/2020 21:35

To be fair the whole nation should have realised that after Gove announced that he wanted every school to be better than average.

Helloitsmemargaret · 11/09/2020 21:38

The government have also said it's ok to break the law in a limited and specific way.

No country on Earth can afford to have everyone sat at home for an indefinite period of time until there's a vaccine, which may be never, for a virus that does not kill but very, very, very few who contract it. That's just how it is.

Yeah I do think MN can be a bit of a bubble. There's seething anger out there at rule breakers.
