To enforce social distancing.

No doubt they will find many volunteers on Mumsnet!

The 'rule of six' thing is nonsense. If I go out with ten of my friends and a marshal approaches us, all we have to do is separate into two groups and say we don't know the other group was going to be there/we don't know each other (whichever is more believable). It's not illegal to be in the same place as people you know. It's also not illegal to have a conversation. How are they going to prove we are a 'group'?

RainbowParadise · 09/09/2020 17:41

@Pearsapiece agree with you completely, sick of young people being made to be scapegoats

LizzieSiddal · 09/09/2020 17:41

Oh fuck off. Young people were told "you're the least at risk, go out and eat, drink and be merry... We'll even give you 50% off to do so" and now its all "young people are to blame for the spread. We can't do right for doing wrong.

You were also told to keep social distance, No more than 30 people, wear masks and wash your hands. Did you do that?

theworldhasfallenoutmybottom · 09/09/2020 17:42

You mean busy body fuckwits?

Funkypolar · 09/09/2020 17:43

I would like to ask the police why they allow gangs of teenagers to congregate. But a group of 7 old ladies would be arrested.

Boris, 1984 is calling and want their ideas back!

BadTattoosAndSmellLikeBooze · 09/09/2020 17:44

Surely it’s good thing as those not complying affect others. No issue if people stick to the rules/guidance. The vulnerable can do more things when SD is adhered too.

Exactly. It’s about time this happened. We should just be ashamed that they’re needed as people can’t do what they’re advised.

annabel85 · 09/09/2020 17:44

Christ, I can just imagine the type of people who will want to be Covid wardens. Curtain twitching arseholes who have a shit fit if you park outside their house.

The type of people who'd shit themselves at the thought of breaking up a big gathering of people.

BadTattoosAndSmellLikeBooze · 09/09/2020 17:46

Had that happened. Police are too busy where I live to get involved with any age group.

ShamPayne · 09/09/2020 17:46

They should just post the job advert on Mumsnet. Plenty of posters fit the bill.

pointythings · 09/09/2020 17:46

It'll be fine though. Anyone caught by these marshals can just say they were only breaking the law in a very specific and limited way. I mean, if it's good enough for our government then it's good enough for us, surely?

BadTattoosAndSmellLikeBooze · 09/09/2020 17:47

*Has that happened?

HelloMissus · 09/09/2020 17:48

Will it be like in Saudi where they hit you with a stick if you’re not behaving?

cologne4711 · 09/09/2020 17:48

I also don't think it's that bloody difficult to refrain from meeting in large groups. It's not like anyone accidentally has a party at their home, or accidentally ends up having several of DC's friends for play dates etc

This. I actually thought the marshals were to visit pubs etc, not go off to houses to tell off people with 3 kids for having the grandparents round and therefore exceeding the 6 people.

Jaxhog · 09/09/2020 17:48

I don't want to live in a police state thank you and that's the way this is heading.

Easy. Just follow the rules then!

duffeldaisy · 09/09/2020 17:48

What is wrong with people? The gestapo didn’t run around trying to get people to be considerate to others.

I dislike this government vehemently for many reasons, and I agree that their approach to this country is a destructive far-right one which prizes money over anything and has no compassion.

But put yourself in that kind of thinking- for them it would be far easier to save money on pensions and health care by allowing vulnerable people to die of covid. They just need people back at work, paying commercial rents, keeping businesses going in cities. Sending children back to schools to provide childcare for that and also to spread it all. If some fall by the way, never mind, they just want things “normal”.

Why on earth would the government want to force people into wearing masks as some kind of fascist takeover? This is much more likely a pose to appease people accusing them of not caring.

They can’t even run a testing system. The virus will have run its course before any marshalls are properly trained. Although I’m sure by then they’ll have paid a lot of money to a company to do it in the meantime.

cyclingmad · 09/09/2020 17:49

You could at least post responsibility with the full information rather than an open ended statement ffs giving people carte blanche to make shit up.

Marshals to help out locally in town centres. They are not knocking on your doors and only police have authority to give fines.

I mean ffs why is that hard to include.

nosswith · 09/09/2020 17:49

Comparing World War 2 to the current crisis is literally insane our Prime Minister likes to compare himself to Winston Churchill though.

Had Mr Johnson been Prime Minister in WW2 though, the Nazis would have successfully occupied the UK for a time.

Runnerduck34 · 09/09/2020 17:49

Haven't heard full announcement, but it sounds bloody awful, overzealous school prefects come to mind! And chances are just like they will only tackle easy targets.
I wonder if rise in cases is actually linked to government eat out to help out scheme.

Wow that'll be fun- sat in the pub with the informers making a visit!

Yes, most of us did. I've actually seen more older people bending and breaking the rules than the young. I haven't hugged my nephews and ds hasn't played properly with his cousins since February. Drives me up the fucking wall. I don't wear face mask either due to exemption (breathlessness in pregnancy) and I'm sick of getting dirty looks because I'm young, not wearing a mask and therefore don't give a shit about covid... Which isn't the case.
CarolVordermansArse · 09/09/2020 17:51

I wouldn't worry about it too much, it will just be another balls up like everything else so far. However if it would deal with people like my neighbour it wouldn't be a bad thing.

Visitors from overseas, stayed, were in and out all over the place straight away. Neighbour goes away with visitors, overseas. Returns with visitors, all going in and out again, no quarantining.

New visitor there now, one that should be shielding. Off they go in car, no masks, for nice trip to visit another groups of family. Neighbour is also in risk category.

cyclingmad · 09/09/2020 17:51

The very idiots you couldn't and still don't stick the guidlines caused this to happen and now you got more covidiots spreading incorrect information and panicking people

People need to grow up and act like responsible adults

OpenlyGayExOlympicFencer · 09/09/2020 17:52

I said earlier that bans on outside gatherings of more than 6 is providing a perverse incentive for those gatherings to take place inside private homes instead, to avoid detection. This is another one.

True, but they’d take great pleasure in being able to call the police on a group of teenagers.
