To enforce social distancing.

No doubt they will find many volunteers on Mumsnet!

So anyone up for a bet on when the first marshal gets their badge ? I think we might see the first spankety new shiny hi-vis in time for Christmas if the Government suddenly become capable, otherwise my money is on next Spring at the earliest.

" I have. First rule is almost always: it is illegal to meet in your own home with individuals other than your own family/X number of people''

Ah you're one of the conspiracy flappers too Confused

You do realise it is happening all over the world don't you? Or maybe Johnson, Macron etc are all in on it together perhaps?!

RedToothBrush · 09/09/2020 20:12

@liverbird10

I'm more concerned that not one person in this thread can spell "marshal".

runs

The BBC spelt it 'Mashal' on the post news conference round up....
BadTattoosAndSmellLikeBooze · 09/09/2020 20:14

What is terrifying is peoples inability to follow simple rules/guidance and that is why things like "covid marshals" are needed.

This.

I social distance and wear a mask so COVID Marshall’s will have no effect directly on me. In fact they may improve things if they get others to comply.
I have a friend who is exempt and she feels this may help and so is in favour of them.
Unless you’re being an idiot, there’s nothing to be worried about. 🤷🏻‍♀️

RedToothBrush · 09/09/2020 20:16

Maybe its the new uk equivalent of people employed elsewhere around the world to do nothing but open a door at the department store for other people all day or to press up and down in the lift.

Passive aggressive "would you like some hand sanitiser madam?" "Sir im not sure if youd noticed but your facemask appears to have slipped off to warm your chin".

HelloMissus · 09/09/2020 20:17

Hmmm. The Windrush Scandal is a pretty good recent case study.

WTF? This is about instituting non-police personnel, about whom there is no information about their training, vetting, etc to be able to police people in public and about making it a crime to gather in your home with persons who are not your immediate family above a certain number. And questioning the wisdom of this makes on a 'conspiracy flapper' Hmm.
Funkypolar · 09/09/2020 20:18

cologne4711 - the EasyJet story reminded me of the post on AIBU a few weeks ago about a woman who was vomiting on an airplane and was told to keep her mask on whilst vomiting. And she was torn to shreds.

I have HG so can’t possibly go on a bus but I wonder how many pregnant women are shouted at for taking off a face mask to vomit? Are we just meant to vomit into the mask?

Are these marshals going to be Government trained and paid or is this another outsourcing opportunity ?

Foobydoo · 09/09/2020 20:20

@HMSSophie

This government, this Tory, right wing government that so many people voted for, is a government I despise beyond words. But if there was a way to keep the economy going and sod the lives of the people, it is this very government who would do that. The fact that a right wing government is trying - abominably badly, and incompetently, but trying none the less - to minimise the damage to the health of the nation, means to me that Covid is actually far more of a risk. If that moron Johnson could get way with a few thousands dying, but a strong economy, he would. The fact has to be that if there were not measures in place, the death rate would be such that his party would be unelectable for a thousand years.
You have got a point here. Everyone is back to normal in my high numbers Northern town. People look at you funny if you try to socially distance or wear a mask. People on socially media voicing their disgust in all virus mitigation plans, screaming plandemic and conspiracy theories. They are so convinced it is a big lie. I even looked into the theories myself. (Always keep an open mind). But there is something about this, something about the way the majority of countries have reacted, countries that usually have opposing views or are rivals all doing similar things. It makes me think the virus is more of a risk than they are letting on. It is a difficult one though and i am not happy about how new laws and rules are being rushed through.
HelloMissus · 09/09/2020 20:20

There may be a few black people recently shot who might disagree just a wee bit.

GetOffYourHighHorse · 09/09/2020 20:20

Mn is funny. Every other thread wailing that not enough was done at the beginning. Now we have a slight increase in restrictions because of an upsurge that will lead to admissions and deaths and it's too much waaah! People cannot function without been in a group of more than 6 constantly and marshalls will be like the Gestapo. Get a grip!

HeresMe · 09/09/2020 20:21

Do you mean our managed isolation facilities? These are all 4 and 5 star hotels. All people coming into NZ stay for 2 weeks. You are tested on day 3 and day 12. If negative you can leave. If positive you ad those you travel with are moved to another hotel.

Have you seen the priced it's not cheap this managed isolation, you make out these are doing it out of goodness of hearts.

PhilSwagielka · 09/09/2020 20:22

@RainbowParadise

They should have the guts to call it what it actually is. The gestapo
Hi, Jew here. It is not remotely the same thing.

The worlds Economic Forum has launched The Great Reset. And it's exactly what it sounds like. Some of the plans are very worrying.

Oh calm down fgs. It was only mentioned today. I'm sure more info will be forthcoming, don't fret.

I think the issue is more that expectations are somewhat unaligned with the potential effectiveness of the scheme.

This is a pr story to distract from other topics of the day, like breaking international treaties and the government fucking up planning on track and trace capacity.

JacobReesMogadishu · 09/09/2020 20:29

I got bawled at in M&S by an employee the other day for not wearing a mask. I pointed out my face was covered, nose and mouth totally covered by a face covering. She seemed unable to comprehend and asked again if I’d got a mask, I said my mouth and nose were covered, she then asked if I had a face covering. I repeated again that I was obviously wearing one so she scowled at me and shrugged.

If an M&S employee is so incompetent I fear for Covid Marshalls.

DianasLasso · 09/09/2020 20:29

@Nestme

yes that sent 1984 shivers down my spine.
Yup.

Eurgh.

Double plus ungood.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 09/09/2020 20:30

I want the new marshals to be given new powers to ask this, if we must have them, and the new rule of 6s laws to include introducing some form of exemption card and people having to wear lanyards, if they are eligble, in order to stop all the attention seeking fakers causing endless bloody issues about masks and leave the very few people who genuinely can't wear one to be left in peace to go about their business.

I don't have an issue with exemption cards providing they give no details other than the holder is exempt from wearing a mask. The reason for the exemption is nothing to do with anyone else. I do have an issue with people having to wear lanyards though. If they choose to wear one fine, but no one should 'have to' advertise they have a disability.

Of course it's happening all over the world - it's the New World Order, goddammit! Duh! Wake UP, sheeple! Grin

Really, did you watch the press conference? Chris Whitty and Patrick Vallance are entirely believable . We are a couple of weeks behind France and Spain, their upsurge has resulted in admissions and more deaths. Belgium got it back under control by implementing similar measures to what we now have. Where is the PR story?

user1497207191 · 09/09/2020 20:36
@pennydreadful

I want anyone who feels strongly enough about not wearing a mask, for any reason, to make an effort to have some sort of distinguishing visible feature such as a card or a lanyard to show that they have gone to some effort to indicate that they aren't just attention seeking - and I want a system in place to facilitate that. I don't think that's too much to ask, under the circumstances, even for people with PTSD due to rape/DV or a facial nerve condition. Or if they're not prepared to do that, I want them to be prepared to put up with the people bitching at them and, inevitably, these covid marshals hassling them. I also want them to try different types of mask and visors before they declare they can't do it. It's a pandemic, etc etc, the government are asking us all to make sacrifices and I don't see why anyone should be exempt unless they genuinely have no choice. It's not singling them out, they are already singled out in public by being non facemask wearers in a see of people wearing them. If we're going to be policing people for having 6 or 7 people in their home then I don't see why facemask-wearing shouldn't also be more strictly controlled.
Considering how keen some people are for the vulnerable to be locked away, how about those who can't wear masks be locked away instead? I'm pretty sure most will suddenly find that they can wear one after all.
