To enforce social distancing.

No doubt they will find many volunteers on Mumsnet!

@RainbowParadise I completely agree with you. Some people need professional help but sadly the NHS has no resources other than for COVID.

@Friendsoftheearth

rainbow You expressed zero concern whatsoever for Belly. Not one word, only stated it was 'just' one so therefore deducing it was not worth worrying about. Your words not mine.

You should really start to consider the content of what you are posting if you want anyone to think you care about any of this.

It is a crime, we need to understand that really fully. Do what you want with the information. Solicitors are that way when you need them >>>

So now caring about covid and caring about the erosion of civil liberties are mutually exclusive? Hmm I beg to differ.

I came from a place that was once a British 'colony' (charming euphemism for invasion, that one). One of the cornerstones of their oppression was always to make illegal gatherings above family in a home. This wasn't even that long ago in some colonies, either. It was usually the guise of keeping people 'safe' from 'terrorists' plotting against the government and then liberally, including enlisting the populace to turn people in.

I can't understand how people don't find this fucking chilling.

jasjas1973 · 09/09/2020 19:20

Covid Marshalls, like blaming the younger generation, is all about diversion from those who are responsible for our wellbeing.

So Johnson pushed Eat out to help out... which many did, increasing social contact and hence spread of CV.... but it becomes our fault.

Our fault the testing system is unable to cope "too many well people coming forward to be tested" yet just weeks ago we were told we had a world beating testing regime.

Everyone's fault but their own... like some spoiled child.

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 09/09/2020 19:23

You do know Hitler was a fascist intent on mass murder and world domination and it wasn't anything to do with trying to protect people froma pandemicdon't you?

Hitler created enough hysteria and mass disinformation amongst the general public that he convinced a great deal of the general public that they needed protecting from the Jews, amongst other 'undesirables'. The process took years, but yes, the initial selling point to the public was in fact protection.

Friendsoftheearth · 09/09/2020 19:23

rainbow I think you are defending the indefensible which is why you are sinking to the level you are now, because you lack any real constructive argument. You need to learn how to debate a real point.

My point is that unless we enforce people will die
Your argument is what exactly? Still we have no idea.

HelgaDownUnder · 09/09/2020 19:24

@Inkpaperstars

It's incredibly spoilt and offensive for people to compare this to the gestapo. Talk about clueless, 21st century first world whining....

I mean yeah, the gestapo were all about protecting health and saving lives right? Their absolutely fucking raison d'être that was.

Absolutely that is what Gestapo (and all their variants) were about. Protecting the 'good' people from the enemy within, so the narrative goes.

Whether said enemy is usurous Jews, witches and heretics, oppressive capitalists, treacherous Armenians, or people coughing inside their home then going out, the narrative is always the same. 'They' are a threat to us all. We cannot be free and happy till the threat is dealt with.

Of course, we're not quite ready for concentration camps or butchering our neighbours, but that Cthulu of mass panic and blame has been awakened. History shows us where it can lead if we don't get a collective grip on ourselves.

liverbird10 · 09/09/2020 19:24

@LizzieSiddal

They should have the guts to call it what it actually is. The gestapo

Idiotic comment. Just like most of this thread. You all need a tinfoil hat.

But Lizzie, if they all wear the one tinfoil hat between them, how on earth can they do social distancing?

@Friendsoftheearth and what point are you debating? You seem to be suggesting that large numbers of people who knowingly have Covid are deliberately coughing at other people. Where's your evidence for that?

And you are sinking to levels of suggesting that I don't care or think it's acceptable that some scumbag deliberately coughed at that poor women.

As I said before, you need help.

Friendsoftheearth · 09/09/2020 19:28

Or we can just say screw it, no enforcement, do what you want when you want and when a full national lockdown is imposed with 85,000 people lying in a morgue and you can't leave your house, you will then truly have something to moan about.

Please do yourselves a favour and stop banging on about civil liberties, it is a pandemic. When this is all over we can go back to being free, until then we owe it to everyone in this country to take every single measure available to us to try and limit the damage, and this I am sorry to say is just the beginning. So god only knows what the hysteria is going to be like in November!

GabsAlot · 09/09/2020 19:29

will this reduced num ber of 6 apply to al these outdoor events aswell

Funkypolar · 09/09/2020 19:31

I thought the second wave with a million deaths was going to be after VE Day non? According to Mumsnet.

By the time enough are recruited (50,000 plus) and trained, laws passed, uniforms made, cars bought... we'll be well into next year.

So don't worry too much, its more PR from Bojo and Cummings.

We still had restrictions during the EOHO initiative such as only two households, social distancing, etc. It wasn't a free-for-all like some people think. If people had followed the guidance, then EOHO, pubs, restaurants, etc wouldn't have caused the spike in positives.
easythatsfragile · 09/09/2020 19:31

@PinkSparklyPussyCat

So you support enforced quarantine camps *@easythatsfragile*? Wouldn't it be better to make it easier for people to quarantine in their own home?

The way some people are prepared to throw away their civil liberties is terrifying.

As far as I understand it, these measures have only become necessary because people can't be trusted to quarantine themselves. As per the current rules in the Isle of Man.

How much easier can it get for people to quarantine in their own homes anyway? And what about people who have travelled to another country and don't actually have 'their own home'?

HeresMe · 09/09/2020 19:32

Except you don't know these are going to die and morgues overflowing you are just scarmongering.

Let's ruin 99% of peoples life's.

Without a vaccine, then covid will continue into next year! The sooner we start planning for the longer term, the better.
DominaShantotto · 09/09/2020 19:33

With the vile nonsense on here I'd suggest they do all recruitment through MN jobs - they'd find any number of people eager to wield a clipboard and see their family and neighbours arrested for breaking whatever fantasy version of the rules the MN loudmouths have decided are the right ones this week.

So you think the death toll would have stayed at 45,000 if we hadn't bothered locking down back in March then, do you? Exponential growth doesn't just get bored and stop you know!
PennyDreadfuI · 09/09/2020 19:37
@pennydreadful

*And do you know the entire medical histories of all these women?

Of course you don't. You have no idea why they may feel claustrophobic or panicky in a mask.

Once again, for the arses people in the back: There is no medical exemption card, the government have stated proof is not required, and those who are exempt do not have to wear a lanyard.*

Ah see, you're missing the point and have misread what I said in your outrage. I don't know people's medical history, nor do I want to. I don't care if they don't wear a mask because they can't. I want the new marshals to be given new powers to ask this, if we must have them, and the new rule of 6s laws to include introducing some form of exemption card and people having to wear lanyards, if they are eligble, in order to stop all the attention seeking fakers causing endless bloody issues about masks and leave the very few people who genuinely can't wear one to be left in peace to go about their business.
Ah see, I think the current system is fine and would work as it is if only people would mind their own business. And actually read, understand and follow the rules regarding those who are exempt.

You have no idea who's 'faking' and who isn't. There isn't a list of conditions which confer exemption. A GP, for example, may not be aware of the reasons why someone may be exempt. Many people would rather keep that sort of information private for all sorts of reasons.

Are you suggesting that a survivor of rape or DV be compelled to share that information with her GP (or anyone else) in order to get her lanyard? How would she prove it? And if she doesn't, do you think marshalls should be able to fine her?

daisychain01 · 09/09/2020 19:37

I feel sorry for them, they'll probably end up catch the virus and sending the stats up.

Alex50 · 09/09/2020 19:38

Can you still meet more people than 6 in a place of worship? If so how many people?

PennyDreadfuI · 09/09/2020 19:41

Yes.

Exponential growth of transmission is different to fatalities.

There is going to be a bigger growth of deaths after this not from covid but only covid deaths matter.

Aridane · 09/09/2020 19:41

The BBC drama Years and Years was a look into our future.

Actually, the reckless release of covid positive patients into care homes and the resulting inevitable of the slaughter of the residents reminds me so much of Years & Years and the release of the virus to decimate refugees (was it?)

GetOffYourHighHorse · 09/09/2020 19:42

'With the vile nonsense on here '

What, the Hitler and gestapo comments you mean? I wonder if people who have lived in a real dictatorship lol reading this.

Don't meet up in groups of more then 6, they're taking away my rights innit. How very dare they try and slow transmission rates!!
