Greater Manchester cases rising even more. What can be done?

I've been watching these for a while and despite local lockdowns the rates are going up. Bolton is bloody scary. I am just within the GM boundary and our rate has gone up from 8 to 13 in the space of about 3 days. Schools only went back 3 days ago and I can't see the figures improving. How can things be controlled when local half-assed lockdowns are not working and everyone is back in school? Will us shielded ones end up shielded again? At what point will schools close?

That's a good point. It's just so worrying.

If I have to read one more comment about “can’t visit my mum/ auntie/ sister / gran but can go to the pub” I will scream.

Track and trace data shows it’s spreading through people visiting each other at home, even with the local lockdown it’s still spreading that way.

People won’t listen though and we’re going to end up with a complete lockdown for GM.

OpenlyGayExOlympicFencer · 19/09/2020 21:26

People are understandably disinclined to believe the government. Especially as the spread being due to home visits is the most politically convenient explanation.

ceeveebee · 19/09/2020 22:11

I admire your confidence in the track and trace system but having spoken to my friends who have been through it, it’s really nowhere near as thorough a process as you think, only asks for contacts for the 7 days prior to positive test (so only a day or two before symptoms start). Without an app you are relying totally on honesty - will many people be honest enough to say “I went to a pub with 20 friends”. And will everyone make their friends self isolate if they know that would be problematic for them?

Beetlejuicer · 20/09/2020 00:01

Manchester has been under restrictions for weeks and they haven’t worked. A lot of people have just had enough now and will ignore it.

SistemaAddict · 20/09/2020 00:10

The powers that be need to work out why it's spreading so quickly. Pubs seem to be an issue if local news is anything to go by, people coming bank off holiday in the final week of August, and then schools went back and people went back to work. And then there was the whole eat out to help out. Closing pubs seems the most logical but then staff income needs to be protected somehow.

Of course I've heard this. But as I have very little confidence in the system, accuracy of the tests and government I don't believe it.

Approx 10 cases a day and the whole of Trafford locked down with no more details of where the cases are.

But they're passed around homes? Not workplaces or public transport or amateur football matches. I call bullshit.

OpenlyGayExOlympicFencer · 20/09/2020 09:10

I don't trust that we'd be told if the data actually showed the majority of cases were being caused by something politically inconvenient anyway.

Well it’s more like 25-30 cases a day now, but pretty much concentrated in the north of Trafford - there’s actually quite a lot of transparency of where all the cases are - there’s a map and a spreadsheet updated daily split by ward. I’ll post the links

Anyone I know who has had it, has no idea where they caught it, and in fact have not spread it to their household members either!

GabriellaMontez · 20/09/2020 09:35

15,11,19,11

These are the case numbers I'm looking at for the last few days. Are mine community only perhaps...?

Yes I'd love to see your cases by ward.

Also not been able to find how many tests they're doing in Trafford.

ceeveebee · 20/09/2020 09:41

They reported 26 cases in Trafford yesterday and 30 the day before. That’s by reporting date though, not test date, and partly due to the time lag between results and reporting.

By test date, the last 7 confirmed days were 26, 20, 15, 12, 21, 11, 22 - total 127 in the week.

ceeveebee · 20/09/2020 09:42

Testing by 100k population is reported by PHE in their weekly surveillance report and was in the MEN the other day

Thank you @ceeveebee there has been a significant number of cases at the school my DC teaches at (amongst both pupils and teachers) and I can see it is reflected in the map. One of the kids she was teaching was taken out of her classroom on Friday. This school is not in Trafford but DC commutes there from South Trafford. I've not seen her since local lockdown but she houseshares with other teachers who work in North Trafford - the risk of transmission has got to be high and is very worrying. Non of them have any symptoms so all they can do is carry on.
ceeveebee · 20/09/2020 10:28

Yes it’s all very interlinked isn’t it? I have to travel on the tram through all the hotspots into the city centre for work too. It’s only a matter of time before it spreads again!

Bulblasagne · 20/09/2020 10:36

Cee

That was my experience too, however, maybe they asymptomatic and passed it to me?
I didn't isolate as I didn't think I had it!!

SistemaAddict · 20/09/2020 19:19

Today's figures. We've jumped again in my area. Andy Burnham has asked for a cobra meeting involved local officials. I hope there is one as it's time to restart them.

Whitty and Vallance to give public briefing on Covid tomorrow www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-manchester-news/chris-whitty-sir-patrick-vallance-18967633

I'm intrigued as to what they will say. I hope the plan is something that works. I hope there IS a plan!
