Are you going to wash uniform every day?

I would usually wash dcs uniform on a Wednesday. They'd have two sets, fresh set on a Monday, and then they'd have a fresh set to wear to school on a Thursday, unless they'd spilt something on it or it was visibly dirty then of course it would be changed.

Are most people going to be changing theirs everyday due to Covid?

I hadn't thought of COVID washing.

I suppose I should. More laundry, great.

Soubriquet · 02/09/2020 11:17

I’m not no

MooPointCowsOpinion · 02/09/2020 11:17

Ours have to go in pe kit twice a week, and have 3 sets of uniform (except cardigans, they only have 2 of those) and 2 sets of PE kit so we can pretty much do weekly washes still but just use all of the kit.
If I didn’t have enough I would definitely still have them strip and I will wash everything as soon as they get home. They have after school care which I’m worried about them taking germs too, but I don’t think they will be able to change there!

GreyBow · 02/09/2020 11:18

Yes, absolutely!

SummerHouse · 02/09/2020 11:19

No I will just wash as usual (when dirty or at the end of the week).

Baaaahhhhh · 02/09/2020 11:19

No, as there's absolutely no need.

Pinkmakeupbag · 02/09/2020 11:19

Well one of my dc went back in June, and we were asked to put clean clothes on them everyday. Non uniform though so just did it.

Wondering if there's really any point when coats, book bags won't be getting washed anyway.

Does that include the tie though?

Or the blazer?

Don't have a tumble dryer - so if I follow the advice pneumonia will be the problem not covid.

Jaem02 · 02/09/2020 11:20

Mine usually change and wash their hands as soon as they get in anyway so I think I'll probably just carry on with that and chanģe them as and when they need it midweek. I don't see the point in washing the uniforms daily if they are going straight back the next day and touching the same unwashed things

tactum · 02/09/2020 11:21

6th form - business suits here so absolutely not! DS has two suits and I ain't washing them after each wear.

Jrobhatch29 · 02/09/2020 11:21

I usually have to anyway especially for my youngest because he comes home covered in mud and paint. I wouldnt if they were older and wasn't visibly dirty

Pinkmakeupbag · 02/09/2020 11:22

True, hadn't thought of that. I've got one at secondary, no blazers though. But his jumpers can't be tumble dried, they're expensive too so no way am I buying more than two.

I'm planning on kids having a shower after school (as they dislike morning showers anyway) and then airing clothes - clean shirt everyday and shirt/trousers changed twice a week.

So same as normal.

RedCatBlueCat · 02/09/2020 11:23

Shirt and trousers, yes because I would anyway. DS2 jumper? Yes, if he tells me it's come out of his bag (it wont have!).
Blazer and tie? Not a chance.

Same here. Straight in wash hands and change into their comfy clothes. They're very well trained now on the hand washing too now!

Yes! Uniform will be off as soon as they’re in then straight in the machine!

Jaem02 · 02/09/2020 11:24

Like their coats, bags, tables and chairs etc...

cologne4711 · 02/09/2020 11:24

I don't understand why you would need to.

Anyway, most people don't have enough uniform to get it dry quickly enough, especially in winter.

Whatelsecanipossiblydo · 02/09/2020 11:25

They aren’t going back and touching the same unwashed things. All things touched by multiple students will be thoroughly cleaned. The only stuff that won’t be is the stationary items that are allocated to one student only.

Dontforgetyourbrolly · 02/09/2020 11:25

I always have to wash ds uniform every day because he gets so mucky !

Their uniforms are just for them too though and it would be impossible to wash their coats, rucksacks, shoes or even car seats daily! And since most are being allocated their own table and chair, I doubt they will be cleaning all of those daily too
blueskys72 · 02/09/2020 11:30

It's in our parental guidance email from school to put them in clean fresh uniform every day. They can sod off!! It might get a spray of diluted fabric conditioner to make it small clean and fresh - I can't afford that much uniform, and he's hopefully moving schools before half term anyway.

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 02/09/2020 11:33

Nope, no chance. Totally unnecessary.

TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 · 02/09/2020 11:33

No. My DD has clean T-shirt, undies and socks daily but trousers/pinafore and jumper last as long as she can keep them reasonably clean (usually 2 or 3 wears).

planningaheadtoday · 02/09/2020 11:35

Do you have a steam iron? I'm steaming clothes. The steam jet are very hot and will kill covid. Just wipe iron and wash hands afterwards.
