Are you going to wash uniform every day?

I would usually wash dcs uniform on a Wednesday. They'd have two sets, fresh set on a Monday, and then they'd have a fresh set to wear to school on a Thursday, unless they'd spilt something on it or it was visibly dirty then of course it would be changed.

Are most people going to be changing theirs everyday due to Covid?

Yes we’ve been told to ensure it’s changed daily. Bags shoes and blazers I will leave in the car as they can’t be washed daily.

Aloethere · 02/09/2020 12:07

No, they are going to school, not a COVID ward. I really don't see the need.

Clymene · 02/09/2020 12:09

No, of course not.

ShinyGreenElephant · 02/09/2020 12:09

Blazer and tie once a week (if theyre lucky), everything else I've got enough of to wear clean every day and only have to do one wash through the week and one of a weekend. The blazer was 60 quid I'm not destroying it by half term and I know the tie will end up in the laundry room black hole of doom if I put it in the wash every day

seayork2020 · 02/09/2020 12:12

No i do not wash school bags, pencil cases, hair, ties, belts, shoes because of covid nor uniforms

Baaaahhhhh · 02/09/2020 12:12

Yes we will be. Of course it makes a difference. Everything that can be washed should be. Everything else will be wiped down

There is little to no scientific evidence of transmission of Covid from clothing. Even the evidence for hard surfaces is questionable. I am more concerned by having been SD'd for so long, with high anti-bac usage, and under-primed immune systems.

ZarkingBell · 02/09/2020 12:17

With a blazer and matching trousers at roughly £60 the pair there is no way these will be washed every day. The trousers do dry overnight but the blazers do not. I can't imagine what state the tie would get into if I washed it every night.
If my child has virus on his jacket I'm sure he's already got it on his hands, face and nose by the time he gets back home.
He can have a shower and change into clean, home clothes when he gets it. Will help with the teen BO anyway.

Deelish75 · 02/09/2020 12:26

They have clean shirts and cardigans/jumpers each day.

We have two skirts/trousers for the week.
DS only has one blazer and I’ll probably wash that weekly.

stopringingme · 02/09/2020 12:30

I have enough uniform for clean every day plus one extra so one wash a week, I probably have enough to go nearly two weeks !

No blazers or anything too expensive.

My DD also gets changed into clean clothes as soon as she gets in

School expects clean uniform every day, but unless they go around checking how will they know ?

saddoiam · 02/09/2020 12:31

I always have anyway my kids never come home clean! So won't make a difference to me!

MadameBlobby · 02/09/2020 12:31

No. We have been advised we can wash as normal. The day the council send someone round to do my homework or contribute to my bills they can dictate when I do my shopping.

MadameBlobby · 02/09/2020 12:31

Shopping? Laundry!

Lovemusic33 · 02/09/2020 12:33

I have one in 6 form, one in sn school, I will be encouraging dd1 to be wearing clean clothes each day but she probably won’t. I will wash dd2’s uniform when she’s got a PE day, she has spare so won’t be loads of washing.

fortysomething78 · 02/09/2020 12:33

Children went back last month (Scotland)
Hadn't even entered my mind to do this.
They get clean shirts every day but trousers, skirts, cardis and jumpers are worn for a couple of days.
Both children have been fine and they also go to after school club.

terriblyangryattimes · 02/09/2020 12:38

Each kid has enough to wear clean every day with a big wash at the weekend (includes jumpers as I picked some up second hand) so yes, but purely by accident, not because of Covid. If things are still spotless I'll be sending them in wearing them the next day (primary so they don't smell yet!)

BunsyGirl · 02/09/2020 12:46

My DCs always have clean uniform every day with the exception of ties and blazers but the school has confirmed that ties and blazers are not to be worn for the first half term at least.

Fink · 02/09/2020 12:48

No.She gets a clean shirt every day anyway as DD is adolescent and can be smelly. Obviously underwear and socks/tights obviously get changed every day. But pinafores/trousers/skirts, jumpers/cardigans, and tie only get changed when visibly dirty/smelly - probably twice a week, less for the tie. And I have no intention of changing for covid. I will insist that she changes and washes hands as soon as she gets home.

middleager · 02/09/2020 12:50

No chance!

I agree. It'll be too late at that point. I have a steamer for blazer as £50 a time x 2 children is too eye wateringly expensive to wash frequently anyway. I've never washed a blazer. Either dry cleaned or now I steam (due to dry clean costs).
Boatonthehorizon · 02/09/2020 12:54

Clean trousers, shirt and jumper every day.
Not washing coat or tie. Probably will wash coat weekly and dry in tumble dryer.

OLGADEEPOLGA · 02/09/2020 12:55

NO

megletthesecond · 02/09/2020 12:59

Yes. But I always did.

seayork2020 · 02/09/2020 13:03

Does anyone actually have any scientific proof that the extra washing helps? Or does it just help nerves?

SueEllenofDallas · 02/09/2020 13:07

No. Clean shirt every morning as per usual. Skirt washed once a week, blazer when needed. She gets changed and washes her hands as soon as she gets home.

whirlwindwallaby · 02/09/2020 13:07

No, same as usual. Our school has no changes to uniform except for games kit worn to school two days week.
