Are you going to wash uniform every day?

I would usually wash dcs uniform on a Wednesday. They'd have two sets, fresh set on a Monday, and then they'd have a fresh set to wear to school on a Thursday, unless they'd spilt something on it or it was visibly dirty then of course it would be changed.

Are most people going to be changing theirs everyday due to Covid?

Clean shirt everyday just like normal but no I won’t be washing it everyday.

OutOfDateAppleCrumble · 02/09/2020 16:38

Most definitely not. Clean pants and shirt/blouse every day, clean skirt/ trousers on Wednesday and. Jumper/blazer last all week.

They are going to school, not the local Infectious diseases ward.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 02/09/2020 16:38

No way. All this OTT stuff is terrible for the environment.

natnev · 02/09/2020 16:39

Oh goodness what I wouldn't give for my children's uniforms to make it more than one day GrinGrinGrin

Schmeebles · 02/09/2020 16:54

They both have enough uniform for 5 days, so uniform goes in their washing baskets every night, but doesn't get washed until their laundry day. Young teenagers, so no way they could wear the same clothes all week anyway - although it would enforce distancing because no one would want to go near them!

And they come home, wash hands, sort out bags, and go straight in the shower. We're wiping down their phones etc too.

Schmeebles · 02/09/2020 16:55

... although it does make me worry what message I am sending to them that I have no problem sending them into disease central, but don't want them bringing it home with them.

bigknickersbigknockers · 02/09/2020 17:00

I wont be washing any more than I did before.

museumum · 02/09/2020 17:01

yes, we wash everyday. our school doesn't use blazers or ties and they've already said if you've not got enough then you can wear non-uniform bits.
my kids go to after school club and play out in the field in it till 5pm each day so it's usually filthy anyway.

they're not taking pencil cases etc in and bags/coats are kept separate.

Zommu · 02/09/2020 17:02

We are doing clean clothes everyday. Have just about bought everything for a weekly wash. It will be mostly jumpers so we will wash that as well. We don't have blazers, tie etc.
No book bags or any bags allowed in school .

museumum · 02/09/2020 17:02

to be clear we don't actually 'wash every day' - we wear a clean set every day and wash once at the weekend.

EdwardCullensBiteOnTheSide · 02/09/2020 17:06

Mine have always had clean clothes every day, I just buy enough so that they've got a set for each day.

buntyevans · 02/09/2020 17:07

Daily wash - vests, shirts, polo shirts, underwear, tights socks etc.

Bi weekly wash - jumpers, cardigans, trousers, skirts

Weekly wash - pinafores

MummaGiles · 02/09/2020 17:12

No. DS went back before summer and we washed as we normally would. He has a clean polo shirt everyday (and sock and undies obviously!) but trousers/shorts/jumpers will be reworn.

DidSheReallySayThat20 · 02/09/2020 17:26

Yes but do anyway.. Then all ironed weekend ( he has 5 of everything so no faffing ironing mid week)

Yes, as the guidelines tell you to. FFS I don't know why people are questioning.

To be honest it seems quite over the top for a virus you have a 44 in a million chance of catching.

There's a 1 in 2 million chance of dying from the virus in England

OneForMeToo · 02/09/2020 17:41

Primary ages I have enough to only do the washing once a month I reckon 😅 secondary child he will have clean shirts every day, trousers every couple of days but I’m not washing his blazer and tie everyday. They would be ruined in a month and At £60 a blazer no way.

Secondary and primary here are both saying to go in PE kits on Pe days as they want as little as possible in school.

Shmithecat2 · 02/09/2020 17:47

Yes. But that's not a change for me, laundry gets done every day anyway.

SoManyActivities · 02/09/2020 17:54

My kids have 5 polo shirts each, DD has 5 pinafores/summer dresses, DS has 3 pairs of trousers/shorts and both of them have 3 jumpers/ cardigans. I will just be doing uniform washing the same as I always have done, which is usually once or twice a week. Sometimes, if they manage to keep their clothes clean (rarely) they won't get through all those clothes in a week.

Do people really wash their kids uniform every day, even in normal times?!

TimeForLunch · 02/09/2020 17:54

No way! Why on earth would I? Unless it comes home filthy, of course.

Bobbybobbins · 02/09/2020 17:55

Yes washed every day but mainly because they are extremely messy little boys, not so much the covid!

Bobbybobbins · 02/09/2020 17:57

As in they have clean uniform every day but I don't literally wash it every day. We have 5 sets.

StealthPolarBear · 02/09/2020 17:57

@ZeroFuchsGiven

Our schools guidelines are 'SCHOOL UNIFORM - normal rules & expectations will be in place. The guidance states that “uniforms do not need to be cleaned any more often than normal, nor do they need to be cleaned using methods which are different from normal.”

My boys will be going in their pe kit twice a week also so uniforms will be clean on every day.

We've had exactly the same, so presume that's from official guidance. I was trousers and shirts every day but everything else a lot less frequently.
cologne4711 · 02/09/2020 18:02

Because the virus can't jump from my pullover to your shirt and because not everyone can afford multiple sets of uniform or has the means to wash and dry clothes quickly. If they want this then they should be non-uniform for the moment.

StealthPolarBear · 02/09/2020 18:05

Plus since we keep getting told a "quick hand wash" is fine for cleaning face masks, I can't see any need for anything more intense for clothes.
