Are you going to wash uniform every day?

I would usually wash dcs uniform on a Wednesday. They'd have two sets, fresh set on a Monday, and then they'd have a fresh set to wear to school on a Thursday, unless they'd spilt something on it or it was visibly dirty then of course it would be changed.

Are most people going to be changing theirs everyday due to Covid?

Useful thread thanks OP. I've been told to take additional measures to avoid Covid due to health reasons. Have 2 dcs going back to massive secondary school Monday...

So am now thinking of getting one of these for kids blazers and maybe bags. Plus getting them to wash and change etc..

Nope, if my child has COVID it will be spread by her, not her cardigan.

Squeekybummum · 02/09/2020 13:13

I have 5 sets of uniforms so will wash them all on Friday night. I work all week and hate worrying about having a clean set washed and ready mid week.

Scottishgirl85 · 02/09/2020 13:13

ie symptomless COVID! Obviously won't send in her ill

toolatetooearly · 02/09/2020 13:16

No need, my kids usually come home so filthy that I think any virus will have been killed off anyway!

Yellowbutterfly1 · 02/09/2020 13:17

No

Pinkmakeupbag · 02/09/2020 13:56

Thanks all. Out of interest are any parents of secondary school dc being asked to send them in PE kits on PE days? Or wonder if this is just a primary thing.

Yes- but I would do it anyway.

vinoandbrie · 02/09/2020 13:58

No!

Yes, we were initially told they’d need to go in their kit and stay in it all day but now we are only told they need to go to school in it if it’s first period and can change after

DD is in wrap around care every day so she gets fresh uniform every day. shes a mucky one and it wont stay clean being worn 7.15 to 7pm. I work full time so can't be dealing with midweek washes. So glad supermarket is ok at DDs school and we can afford to do this.

U8myufo · 02/09/2020 14:02

No. I have 3x sets so she can have fresh uniform beginning middle and end of the week unless she spills something in between in which case it will get washed. I will give the sweatshirt a Dettol spray in between with the aerosol that you can use on fabrics. If it has to be a fresh set each day she will have to go in civvies so that's that.

Ellsbells12 · 02/09/2020 14:03

Nope I did but won't this time

Yes, mine is year 7 and will be wearing PE kit to school on PE day. I think it will be quite nice for her to have a day not needing to wear her blazer, will be much comfier in PE kit all day.
nex18 · 02/09/2020 15:25

I’ll be washing uniform as usual but I have told 14 year old ds he needs to shower every evening and make sure his uniform is hung up on a hanger on the back of his because of Covid. Obviously it’s because he’s a stinky teenager who leaves his clothes on the floor but it’s about time there was a positive from Covid!
He’d love to wear PE kit on PE days as he’s doing GCSE PE so PE is 4 days a week, sadly it’s blazers, ties and ugly shoes for the rest of the day.

Yes, ours is, games kit, so long sleeve rugby shirt with shorts. They are allowed navy or black tracksuit bottoms if cold.
AlwaysLatte · 02/09/2020 15:45

I always have done, everything except blazer and tie which I do much less often!

fifteenisthemagicnumber · 02/09/2020 15:53

Our school (primary) has informed us that DCs are expected to wear clean uniform everyday. Luckily I have a tumble dryer so I can manage if.

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 02/09/2020 16:03

My DD (yr8) is being told to wear PE kit on PE days. I'll be giving her a clean shirt and tights every day and letting her wear skirt/jumper two days before washing unless it visibly needs washing. Have 2 blazers so probably wear alternative weeks and then wash.

colouringindoors · 02/09/2020 16:13

Any other parent advised to shield? If so what are you doing re washing?

Pipandmum · 02/09/2020 16:15

No. Clean shirt and socks every day but skirts is weekly and blazer gets washed only half termly.

mumwon · 02/09/2020 16:18

change straight away when dc comes home if the weather is dry (winter?? darking them?) hang outside for an airing for an hour or if wet hang on coat hanger so any random droplets dry out by morning hopefully they will have been decontaminated.
Alternatively put one of those paper tissue overalls over clothes & let that become new school uniform Grin

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 02/09/2020 16:21

Our school blazers are polyester and easily washable and quick to dry- if I have to I can easily pop them along with the ties in a 15 minute wash every day, or even get the teenage children to...

SueEllenMishke · 02/09/2020 16:21

Good god no.....there is no reason to at all.
Who has the time ( or inclination) for daily uniform washing??

Yes, but I suspect once they've had a few weeks of lolloping great Year 10s lads wandering the halls in muddy rugby kit in the afternoon, that will change... ;-)
