Are you going to wash uniform every day?

I would usually wash dcs uniform on a Wednesday. They'd have two sets, fresh set on a Monday, and then they'd have a fresh set to wear to school on a Thursday, unless they'd spilt something on it or it was visibly dirty then of course it would be changed.

Are most people going to be changing theirs everyday due to Covid?

Mine have clean shirts and trousers for each day although usually wear the trousers a couple of days. I won't be washing the blazer everyday.

TheKeatingFive · 02/09/2020 11:39

No uniform here so thankfully no problem.

Ugzbugz · 02/09/2020 11:41

Nope, blazer would've wrecked! I doubt anyone is washing their school bags or pencil cases, the list goes on and on, I dont wash my Jean's after wearing once to work or my bad etc.

Will everyone be washing coats Everyday?

YourStarlessEyes · 02/09/2020 11:43

I won't be.

ThisMustBeMyDream · 02/09/2020 11:44

I've never understood how anyone gets by on 2 sets of uniform. 3 kids in, and they have never ever ever come home clean. Not once. You lucky lot!
We have 5 sets of everything other than jumpers as they can be washed and tumbled without ironing so I have 3 and do a midweek wash. 2 would make me worry as mine like to misplace them at school and we regularly get 2 or 3 stuffed in the bookbag as they have been left at school Angry.
So it will make no difference to us.

covetingthepreciousthings · 02/09/2020 11:47

I think I probably will wash every day, both my Dh & I do the same with our work clothes and have done throughout as we work with the general public.

We wash everything and have a shower as soon as we get in.

So we are already washing every day anyway so will just chuck them in the same wash load.

Triangularbubble · 02/09/2020 11:47

Yes, but I do anyway because they get filthy and their uniform is cheap supermarket stuff that goes in the tumble drier and I don’t mind buying plenty of anyway. Even coats normally get washed every couple of days, school is big on outdoor activity....

I wouldn’t bother just for covid though - if there’s enough virus around to contaminate their clothes it’s also infected them through eyes, nose and mouth and they’ll give it to me anyway. I put it in the same category as disinfecting streets - people like to feel they’re doing something.

ZeroFuchsGiven · 02/09/2020 11:48

Our schools guidelines are 'SCHOOL UNIFORM - normal rules & expectations will be in place. The guidance states that “uniforms do not need to be cleaned any more often than normal, nor do they need to be cleaned using methods which are different from normal.”

My boys will be going in their pe kit twice a week also so uniforms will be clean on every day.

DominaShantotto · 02/09/2020 11:48

It's incredibly rare I get more than a day out of uniform (my kids are mucky buggers) but I have enough for clean every day anyway. We're being let off ties as they know people only tend to have 1 or 2 of them and sponge the spilt yoghurt off them.

SmallestInTheClass · 02/09/2020 11:50

No, they'll get a clean shirt each day but the skirts and cardigans will be washed once or twice a week.

Precisely. I'm not going along with pantomime theatre safety measures.

timeforawine · 02/09/2020 11:52

No as we bought her 5 dresses, the gingham came in packs of 2 anyway so 2 of those and one grey pinafore

timeforawine · 02/09/2020 11:53

Cardigans however no i won't be washing every day (forgot she had to wear those!)

singersarp · 02/09/2020 11:56

Yes we will be. Of course it makes a difference. Everything that can be washed should be. Everything else will be wiped down.

Minty82 · 02/09/2020 11:57

I always have done - it’s usually got their lunch all down it! We only have two jumpers/pinafores each, but one goes in the wash each night and then they have a clean one.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 02/09/2020 11:58

School have said all dc to have fresh uniform on each day (and to go dressed in sportswear on PE days).

We usually have 4 sets anyways as we don't have time midweek to launder so nothing changes here. I do keep a cardigan or jumper going until it's dirty so that will change.

greengreengrass14 · 02/09/2020 11:58

This question came up at the end of last term in the parent school forum online.

The school said no need to, knowing that parts of it i.e. blazers are difficult to dry and can't be washed so often.

Unless of course it is mud, sweat etc. Just regular washing here.

Pinkmakeupbag · 02/09/2020 11:59

Think I'll just carry on as usual then. Forgot for primary they're wearing PE kits on PE days anyway so that will be a clean set on.

I wash the blazer every couple of weeks or so

coronafiona · 02/09/2020 12:03

Yes. I do anyway mainly but I'll be making sure I do now.

ginsparkles · 02/09/2020 12:03

Yes, we have always done fresh uniform each day. I won't wash every day but straight out of clothes, into wash basket, quick shower and fresh clothes for the evening

loulouljh · 02/09/2020 12:04

No way. Clean shirt every day but the rest only when clearly dirty or the end of the week. Have better things to do with my time and the environment will thank me.

Timeforabiscuit · 02/09/2020 12:05

Really good shout to give it a steam iron,

Woeismethischristmas · 02/09/2020 12:05

My kids have been back for a few weeks and I wash everything. School uniform isn't mandatory but encouraged though. We're wearing mostly uniform but substituting jumpers or whatever if school stuff not made it through the wash. That seems to be a reasonable compromise and I appreciate the schools flexibility.

mum2jakie · 02/09/2020 12:05

The schools have introduced blazers and I only wash them once a term or they look really shabby. Pretty sure they aren't made for daily washing.

Might give them an airing outside of it stays dry.
