Still breaking so no exact detail on location yet but -

"Separate households will not be allowed to meet indoors in Greater Manchester, East Lancashire and parts of West Yorkshire from midnight, the government has announced.
Health Secretary Matt Hancock said an "increasing rate of transmission" had been identified in those areas."

Those who this needs to target will not take the blindest bit of notice.

anon5000 · 30/07/2020 23:12

@Puzzledandpissedoff

Oh but you all just love it though

What an odd post; why on earth would anyone "love it", any more than they've loved cultural celebrations like easter and passover being disrupted, countless weddings cancelled and all the rest?

Because it's easy to blame the others. Not the nice white people who never ever break the rules.

It's a very handy excuse to let your racism shine through.

Foxes157 · 30/07/2020 23:12

Unfortunate but not surprising Leicester is still not out of lockdown and we're lower in rates now than parts of nw England.

Tell me why they should not suffer the same lockdown. Our economy is affected and after 19 weeks we're not released.

ArthurMorgan · 30/07/2020 23:13

Does any one know what the rules are regarding tradesmen inside homes?

@lobster12

My brother in law and his wife are still going to celebrate Eid with my in laws. I don't think many people are going to follow the guidelines sadly.
Do you know why?
H1978 · 30/07/2020 23:14

Being a Muslim celebrating Eid tomorrow and living in one of these areas, I can categorically say everyone I’ve spoken to have prepared for tomorrow so no way is anyone going to follow the lockdown rule for Eid. I’m angry at the timing of the announcement and it’s deliberate for sure.

H1978 · 30/07/2020 23:16

I think the Muslim community feel targeted as the reason for the rise in numbers.

walksen · 30/07/2020 23:16

Guess this is what happens when people "do their own risk assessments", decide " what is right for them" or as another thread right now puts it decide we should treat covid like flu as it's now an Endemic disease and we should just get on with life...

bubblebubblebubbletrouble · 30/07/2020 23:17

My first thought was it was aimed at Eid although I follow Andy Burnham on twitter & the case numbers have been rising.
Twitter with 3hrs notice is such a shitshow way to announce it though.

fuckingfuckingshitbags · 30/07/2020 23:18

It does seem so heartless @H1978 - they would never have done this so close to xmas

H1978 · 30/07/2020 23:22

@ fuckingfuckingshitbags. It is, and it’s unfair to say we’ve all broken the rules when some of us haven’t seen family for weeks. I haven’t seen my sister since the end of April and I was looking forward to spending a special day with her.

anon5000 · 30/07/2020 23:23

@H1978

Is it any wonder? Blame the muslims get us off the hook.
CantSayJack · 30/07/2020 23:24

@Redolent

It’s Eid tomorrow. Absolutely necessary, but good luck policing that.
To be fair I wouldn’t abide by this either, the night before Eid? Good luck with that, this Government allows people to go to the pub and gyms but you can’t celebrate one of the biggest events in the Islamic calendar with your family? Absolute joke, they won’t one out and say it but it’s directed at Muslims but there’s no way people will listen now.
CantSayJack · 30/07/2020 23:25

Come out not one out 🙄

PleasantVille · 30/07/2020 23:25

@H1978

I think the Muslim community feel targeted as the reason for the rise in numbers.
This is why we should have transparent data broken down into as many elements as possible. This would confirm the racial breakdown in factual terms.
CantSayJack · 30/07/2020 23:27

I don’t blame you, imagine doing this at Christmas? There would be absolute uproar!
southeastdweller · 30/07/2020 23:29

The problem we have is that the communities in question are less likely to socialise in outdoor settings and are more likely to congregate indoors at people's homes, which we know are in economically poorer areas with smaller houses and lack of back gardens. In reality, everybody from ALL races and religions have been pushing boundaries and have been seeing their friends and families at houses - but the spotlight will once again be on BAMEs due to the aforementioned lack of economical and social privileges that directly exacerbate their vulnerability to this virus spreading fast

But the difference is that multi-generational south Asian families are much more likely to live together than white families and we know that the main environment where people get infected is their home.

Watermelontea · 30/07/2020 23:29

I can go to work, and be cm from someone else’s face, yet I can’t sit in a fucking garden 2m away from my parents so they can see their grandchildren, this is an actual shit show.

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 30/07/2020 23:30

@anon5000

Blame the Muslims. Racist bollocks just like the Leicester lockdown thread.
It’s not about blaming anyone; it’s about trying to save their lives!

time4anothername · 30/07/2020 23:32

sad that people see deliberate punishment rather than just shit show bad organisation and panic. True racists would be leaving the announcement another couple of days so that the Eid celebrants got more cases, not less, wouldn't they?

anon5000 · 30/07/2020 23:34

It is absolutely about trying to blame others. It;'s like Matt Hancock suddenly thought OMG EID! Keep them in.

DarkHelmet · 30/07/2020 23:35

So they've just got everyone back to work, there's no school or childcare to rely on, and now parents can't leave their children with their family members to be able to go to work?? The logic behind this is staggering.

FaiIWorseAgain · 30/07/2020 23:36

Do you know why?
Same reason as announcing Xmas being cancelled on the 23rd won't work either (not me, I hate Xmas and don't care but for 2 families with a planned shared turkey, I'll be amazed if they stuck to the rules with a last minute curfew)
