Still breaking so no exact detail on location yet but -

"Separate households will not be allowed to meet indoors in Greater Manchester, East Lancashire and parts of West Yorkshire from midnight, the government has announced.
Health Secretary Matt Hancock said an "increasing rate of transmission" had been identified in those areas."

@Bumbl

Apparently it does include bars and restaurants as the indoor spaces - see Lewis Goodall's tweet
In that case bars and restaurants will surely close as they will have no customers
islockdownoveryet · 30/07/2020 22:50

You can provide essential childcare
Tbf I've no choice that or I can't work .

Starisnotanumber · 30/07/2020 22:50

Rang dd am gonna do childcare tomorrow. Let someone who is policing this stop us. Was OK today we have kept to the rules up to now.
Will pay any fine if it comes which seems unlikely

LabradorGalore · 30/07/2020 22:50

*starfreak - that’s happened in GM too, it’s young people thinking their invincible as opposed to being race related. It’s an age thing - or it certainly appears to be locally!

Feenie · 30/07/2020 22:51

So late in the day - families will have cooked for each other for tomorrow.

Can't say I'm surprised - they had three years' notice that Y6 SATs would clash with Eid next year and they didn't give a shit.

islockdownoveryet · 30/07/2020 22:52

No mention of bars restaurants it's just don't mix households .
Oldham was put on the same this week but that's been high for a while so no surprise .

oldbagface · 30/07/2020 22:52

@OnionString me too

annabel85 · 30/07/2020 22:53

@StarFreak

I'm in Calderdale. I go for a local walk every evening and without fail see groups of young Muslim people meeting. Tonight I passed one notorious spot where they hang out in cars- 4 and 5 squashed in, obviously from different households as all the same age. This has continued from the very beginning of lockdown. It's not racist, it's fact. I've observed it with my own eyes. Blaming language as a barrier is ridiculous- these are second and third generation immigrants that have been born here- their English is fine! It's blatant disregard for the restrictions of which I have not seen to the same degree in the white teens around here!
Who is it going to raves?
Comefromaway · 30/07/2020 22:53

However there is a rule against looking after your childcare for social reasons.

lifesalongsong · 30/07/2020 22:55

@anon5000

Blame the Muslims. Racist bollocks just like the Leicester lockdown thread.
I don't think covid is racist, if positive tests are higher in any particular community that's where the action needs to be targetted. Are you suggesting that increased case numbers in some areas are being ignored and local lockdowns only being introduced in Muslim areas?
AllMyGreggsInOneBasket · 30/07/2020 22:55

We’re staying in a holiday cottage with a BD postcode as of next week, can we even still go?

Feenie · 30/07/2020 22:57

Do you think any lockdown would ever be announced at 10pm on Christmas Eve?

Seriously?

MaxNormal · 30/07/2020 22:57

StarFreak I'm in Scotland and it's white teens I see doing that. It's an age thing, not a race thing.

StarFreak · 30/07/2020 22:58

@annabel85 err, not sure what you are on about- but seeing as I haven't been to any raves I don't know who's going!

pepperycinnamon · 30/07/2020 22:59

It's blatant disregard for the restrictions of which I have not seen to the same degree in the white teens around here!

Given the segregation within places like Halifax, surely this depends on which are you are walking in? It's not something you'd notice so much in Saville Park or Northowram compared to King Cross or Thrum Hall for example.

Bumbl · 30/07/2020 23:01

You can meet other households in pubs and restaurants now (again according to Lewis Goodall twitter) - what a shambles in organisation and communication this has been

alreadytaken · 30/07/2020 23:02

To those saying this is racist - BAME have higher death rates. It would be racist NOT to take action if infection is rising, as it is, in areas with high at risk populations.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 30/07/2020 23:02

Oh but you all just love it though

What an odd post; why on earth would anyone "love it", any more than they've loved cultural celebrations like easter and passover being disrupted, countless weddings cancelled and all the rest?

Namechanger20183110 · 30/07/2020 23:04

@StarFreak Sorry but you are being biased and deluded. There have been countless reports of raves and parties taking place across the country by teens of every colour, not to mention the crammed pubs and beer gardens which you can quite clearly see are not Muslim people. I appreciate it's what you have seen, but I will tell you that I live in a predominantly white area with manageable cases, and there is plenty of close mixing happening right now between young white people

StarFreak · 30/07/2020 23:04

It's a white majority but mixed area.

user1471439240 · 30/07/2020 23:05

Andy Burnham is firmly on board. This is a good thing, and would indicate the seriousness of the issue. This is not the time to cast a race aside.

lobster12 · 30/07/2020 23:06

My brother in law and his wife are still going to celebrate Eid with my in laws. I don't think many people are going to follow the guidelines sadly.

pepperycinnamon · 30/07/2020 23:06

@StarFreak

It's a white majority but mixed area.
The white majority are probably not socialising in cars, that's why you are not seeing them. They are doing it out of sight. I doubt Muslim teenagers in a place like Halifax are willingly socialising on the streets in predominantly white areas as they'd experience too much unpleasant racism.
islockdownoveryet · 30/07/2020 23:08

There have been illegal raves near me over the last few weeks . Now is not the time to blame anyone black white , young old .
It just pisses me off late at night it's announced with hardly any info .

HalloBrian · 30/07/2020 23:10

metro.co.uk/2020/07/20/mosque-forced-close-imam-tests-positive-250-person-funeral-13014223/

I live in the area and whilst I do think localised lockdown is the right thing to do, it is really frustrating to know that a very large part of the community has not been taking the risk seriously and now we are all lumped in to the trouble together. This is going to add to the already fraught racial tensions that we live with.
