Still breaking so no exact detail on location yet but -

"Separate households will not be allowed to meet indoors in Greater Manchester, East Lancashire and parts of West Yorkshire from midnight, the government has announced.
Health Secretary Matt Hancock said an "increasing rate of transmission" had been identified in those areas."
@ballsdeep It already happened with Passover and Easter, they were both back when the original lockdown happened.

Why did they bother lifting lockdown in the first place? Did they not see this coming?
Sorry, I mean if it were to happen now lockdown has eased.

I'm glad I am in Wales. Our first minister has taken a battering by some but he's been slow in unlocking which has paid off I think . Obviously early days and we have the tourists arriving and returning which could have an affect, who knows. Fingers crossed

My0My · 30/07/2020 22:28

Tourism isn’t quite the same as family gatherings. Tourists can be separated and are often outside. Not gathering in houses.

PhilSwagielka · 30/07/2020 22:28

@ballsdeep Good luck. I remember when it first started and locals were begging tourists not to come to rural Wales because they just didn't have the resources to cope, not that the selfish bastards listened to them.

StatisticalSense · 30/07/2020 22:28

@My0My
On the whole they don't visit pubs (some individuals who are not themselves overly religious may as may those who socialise with large numbers of non-muslims) but many of the younger men do visit regular gyms and many areas with a high muslim population have women only gyms that cater to a predominantly muslim clientele.

cocklingfree · 30/07/2020 22:28

@HeresMe

"If you don't realise why Bradford you are niave"

They didn't say "why Bradford?" Just where is the boundary. BD23 is a very different place and community to BD1. As they said.

And it's naive (sorry 🙈)

CoffeeandCroissant · 30/07/2020 22:29

"Just got off phone to DHSC again. They just told me that in fact no detail is necessarily imminent, certainly can’t guarantee before NN goes on air in 30 mins. This time was slightly steered away from guidance applying to pubs/restaurants. Got sense this is still being worked out."

Update from Lewis Goodall on twitter.

All sounds like a bit of a shambles. Seems daft for govt/Hancock to announce a change of policy via Twitter without any details and with just 2 hours notice. Confused

OublietteBravo · 30/07/2020 22:31

@HeresMe - What? I merely suggested that the whole of the BD postcode was unlikely to be covered (Since the announcement said “parts of West Yorkshire” and the BD postcode goes into a different country). And wondered where the boundary of the Bradford lockdown would be (I have family in several of the BD postcodes, none of whom actually live in Bradford). I didn’t ask “why Bradford?” I’m fully aware of the spike in cases, and the fact that it is Eid.

ShouldWeChangeTheBulb · 30/07/2020 22:32

Does this have an effect on people who work in others homes? Cleaners, Physios, tutors?

islockdownoveryet · 30/07/2020 22:32

It's bloody ridiculous I'm in Greater Manchester but the borough I'm in the rates are very low not increasing. We've been lumped alll together , I've just gone back to work dc going to grandparents and holiday club if that all stops I'm fucked .
I don't go anywhere but I need childcare so I can work and I've hardly seen any family or friends as was waiting a couple more weeks but now this .

itsaratrap · 30/07/2020 22:33

Today 22:02 Bumbl

No meeting in private gardens allowed either according to bbc news .. how will this ever be policed?“

Such a shame it has to be - why can’t people just do the right thing for each other?

CoffeeandCroissant · 30/07/2020 22:34

Change announced by Hancock via Twitter at 9:16 pm, so less than 3 hours notice (and lots of people don't use Twitter):

@usernotfound0000

anon5000 it isn't racism to point out that the areas experiencing spikes (Bradford specifically that I'm talking about) are areas that are predominantly populated my Muslim people.
Oh but you all just love it though. Gives you all a chance to show the racism that was always below the surface.
BBCONEANDTWO · 30/07/2020 22:38

I was going to go and stay at my sisters. She's in a single parent household - I wonder if it also affects family bubbles? I'm worried about her as she is not coping at all.

bandbsmummy · 30/07/2020 22:39

My parents are GM but we are not. My mum held my son for the first time today. So glad we went over today.

pepperycinnamon · 30/07/2020 22:39

More in Twitter.
I hope our Muslim friends find a way to mark Eid and keep their families safe Thanks

It's says all households so yes, she's affected.
annabel85 · 30/07/2020 22:41

@usernotfound0000

Is it literally just mixing in houses that isn't allowed? So can still meet your friends in the pub but not in your house? Bonkers.
All about the economy.
Namechanger20183110 · 30/07/2020 22:41

If "these people" have been flouting rules from the begining, then how did the virus get under control in these areas in the first place? Can anyone explain that?

The problem we have is that the communities in question are less likely to socialise in outdoor settings and are more likely to congregate indoors at people's homes, which we know are in economically poorer areas with smaller houses and lack of back gardens. In reality, everybody from ALL races and religions have been pushing boundaries and have been seeing their friends and families at houses - but the spotlight will once again be on BAMEs due to the aforementioned lack of economical and social privileges that directly exacerbate their vulnerability to this virus spreading fast

islockdownoveryet · 30/07/2020 22:41

So what are we supposed to do when we rely on relatives for childcare ? I've just gone back after 4 months furloughed escaped redundancy by the skin of my teeth and now this . AngryAngryAngry

Comefromaway · 30/07/2020 22:42

@Starisnotanumber

So officially I can't look after my gran daughter tomorrow while her mum and dad work. I realise it's based on the fact it's eid but e live in an area where there are very feeMuslim families and no increase in covid cases.
You can provide essential childcare.

Source please ?

Comefromaway · 30/07/2020 22:49

Providing essential care has always been allowed. When we were in full lockdown it was only allowed for key workers but parents were told not to use family members who were vulnerable.

Now that we are all allowed to work, childcare can be provided by anyone. This Info can be found On the gov.uk website which was updated in a June.

These extra measures don’t affect being able to work or provide childcare. There is no distinction in the Covid guidance or legislation between paid for or unpaid for childcare.

LabradorGalore · 30/07/2020 22:49

There are areas where the rates are rising which are predominantly white so it’s bollocks to blame any ethnic group for this unless there is actually confirmation as this being the reason.

Some places have opened up as normal, and people are responding in the same way. People have let their guards down and been less cautious. Or people think the rules don’t apply to them. But let’s not turn it into a racist debate when it doesn’t need to be one.

I would like more guidance from the government as to what the local lockdown means day to day, can people still go to work/childcare and will it delay schools etc.
