Their number of cases keep on rising, It looks really concerning now. Have they actually lost control of the outbreaks, as they keep putting bigger areas into lockdown again, or is it genuinely localised? Will UK and other European countries close borders with them soon like France has?

Seeing the latest figures, I don't understand why air bridges ( or whatever they're called now) were maintained with Spain yesterday and not with Portugal.

drivinmecrazy · 25/07/2020 16:25

How ridiculous!
I'm merely pointing out that I do not trust this government. Even Boris recently admitted his government completely underestimated and misunderstood the situation which led to poor decisions taken at inopportune times.
Again I refer to my contact. He openly admitted he has been presented with all the scientific papers from which they made their own judgments and decisions to disregard evidence presented to them.
I'm pretty sure that the chief scientific officer has already made it clear that he disagrees with much of the early decisions.
You can lead a horse to water and all that.
Just interested if those that feel so confident in the handling of the pandemic in U.K. by the Tories voted for them in the last election.
My own personal view it that it's more dangerous to be led by a government who is not trusted by the people than the virus itself.
Why should I trust a government that has been proven to lie.
Bit like the boy who cried wolf

MRex · 25/07/2020 16:27

Anyway. Back on topic. Thanks for the updated map @torydeathdrug, where are you getting it from so I can check for updates please? The other map earlier in the thread about clusters was useful as well in showing which were considered under control / still in progress.

Also to put it into perspective Spain is not a harmoginous country.
Regional governments have autonomy how they deal with outbreaks so what is happening in Catalonia and how it deals with it is not the same as the measures the Murcian regional government. Quite rightly so.
Here in Murcia we have had way less cases since easing of lockdown that my small Home Counties town in U.K. where 22 cases were identified the day we left.
Anyhoo best any of us can do is to make decisions based on what's best for our own families.

itsgettingweird · 25/07/2020 16:37

My holiday to Mallorca was cancelled. People were surprised I wasn't sad.

Hopefully now they'll realise why staying local is my preferred option this summer.

randomer · 25/07/2020 17:52

Please is anybody living in Extremadura? Could you tell me anything about the situation?

Motheroftwofeline · 25/07/2020 17:56

Just heard that the requirement to quarantine for 2 weeks when arriving back in the U.K. from Spain is to be reintroduced from midnight tonight

Just been confirmed on ITV news.

Piggywaspushed · 25/07/2020 18:46

BBC and Guardian too.

Piggywaspushed · 25/07/2020 19:11

According tot he map Extramadura is currently very safe at least for your DC randomer.

MRex · 25/07/2020 19:50

@randomer - it's worth bearing in mind that cases in Spain are far lower than they've been in the UK in recent past, and far lower than in many other countries. With cases going up, quarantine periods are sensible. Hopefully they'll start going down again soon. Extremadura seems less affected than many other parts of Spain.

Extremedura is not really on the tourist trail, unless you are doing the Camino Via de la Plata route, which I did (well a few stages anyway) some years ago. It is absolutely gorgeous though I will say that.

But realistically the vast majority of people going to Spain wish to go to the beaches of Andalucia, Cadiz, Murcia, Valencia, Alicante and Benidorm. I am sure I have omitted some!

Bonkersblond · 25/07/2020 20:09

itsgettingweird same here, over the moon our holiday cancelled, people didn't understand we were quite prepared to lose our deposit.

randomer · 25/07/2020 20:21

Thank You people who have reassured me.

Piggywaspushed · 25/07/2020 20:28

I saw weird on t'other thread. I am (not) going to mainland so hopefully will now get my refund. Looks like I was right to cancel cattery today!!

SockYarn · 25/07/2020 20:41

My Spanish is fluent and I read the Spanish press rather than what's just reported over here.

The main things I've learned from the coverage are: a greater number of cases are being detected because of improved testing. They believe that the number of serious cases and deaths is what we should be looking at - not just number of cases. (And they're probably right).

The other main point is that Spain is doing really badly on track and trace. Only 3 or 4 contacts identified and spoken to per case. And it's regional - they are saying that in Cataluna they are, on average, only tracking ONE contact per infected person. 75% of cases in Cataluna have no contacts traced at all. This is partly because each regional government is doing its own thing, it's not a national programmme, some are doing much better than others.

We need to be looking at this and getting on top of track and trace now to avoid falling into the same traps.

itsgettingweird · 25/07/2020 20:43

I'm sure you've worked out for yourself quarantine is all Spain and FCO advice not to travel is mainland only?

What does that mean re refund for you if you aren't travelling to mainland.

Miseryl · 25/07/2020 20:44

Gutted. 😓 we were due to go to Majorca in a week. Booked and paid for in January well before COVID. We don't know what's going to happen. Both keyworkers who have worked throughout the pandemic.

itsgettingweird · 25/07/2020 20:46

Thanks sock my Spanish isn't fluent but enough I could get the gist of that.

SockYarn · 25/07/2020 20:48

De nada, @itsgettingweird.

Honeymum1 · 25/07/2020 20:49

“It looks really concerning now”. Really? What I find concerning is what has happened in this country Sad Just look at the numbers. People are scared of coming here. The UK has more deaths since the beginning of July than all the EU. Spain had a proper lockdown and wearing a mask was mandatory for children and adults. Some of the outbreaks are also happening because tourists refuse to follow the rules. Have a look at the lovely videos of drunk British tourists in Magaluf Shock

daisymay133 · 25/07/2020 20:50

Almost all the operators have it in their guidelines for package holidays that they will automatically cancel and refund holidays wherr there is a requirement for isolation on either side

Defo easyJet tui and Jet 2 so canaries and Balearics will be cancelled if package
