Their number of cases keep on rising, It looks really concerning now. Have they actually lost control of the outbreaks, as they keep putting bigger areas into lockdown again, or is it genuinely localised? Will UK and other European countries close borders with them soon like France has?

Honey many countries inc Spain are not releasing care home deaths daily in their figures

In Catalan alone there have been more deaths per day than the official Spanish death rate

Catalan news releases them daily

SparklingLime · 25/07/2020 20:54

Thank you for your posts, @drivinmecrazy. It’s so helpful to get a fresh perspective. This ‘all governments have made mistakes’ white-washing, for example from OP, is frankly insulting.

Silkroad · 25/07/2020 20:54

Feel for those who won’t be paid when they get back. Most people won’t have 2 weeks unpaid leave left and a lot of people don’t work from home!

Silkroad · 25/07/2020 20:55

Leave not unpaid

BillieEilish · 25/07/2020 20:57

I'm so relieved DD might have a chance of going back to school in September now.

Good news all round.

daisymay133 · 25/07/2020 21:09

People will not have to isolate as people will not be going

All operators have it in their Covid guarantee to cancel and refund holidays where there’s a requirement to isolate either side

No choice

MRex · 25/07/2020 21:29

@SparklingLime - This thread is about whether cases in Spain are still low with outbreaks, or rising too fast in the community, and whether the rises might lead to quarantine restrictions. @drivinmecrazy has been trying to derail from their first post, now you've arrived with a suggestion that I'm "white-washing" and "insulting" for trying to politely move it back on topic. It was a fairly important discussion for some of us, and as borne out by the news tonight there are impacts. You could start your own topic if you want to debate UK policies?

Oh my goodness! I take time out to play a bit of volley ball with the kids in the pool and walk the dogs in the mountains and come back to find I've been derailing this thread!!
Since the beginning of this pandemic I have kept up to date on a daily basis equally with how we have dealt with it in U.K. and how the Spanish government has responded.

Now we've finally got here I can say with certainty where I feel safer.
Daily death rates completely dropped here, to zero in my region for a long time, haven't seen that happen in U.K. at all yet.
Incidentally here locally most cases have been identified as arising amongst the agricultural workers.
Our local post office reported a case Monday morning and immediately shut down for cleaning and testing of all staff. No panic and no drama.
We've been kept informed at every stage by our local mayor whereas the town we live in in U.K. announced 22 cases a few days before we came out and we all just found out after the fact via social media. Where was our mayor or council leader reassuring and informing local residents?

Freeekedout · 25/07/2020 22:44

daisymay133 How are you so sure holiday companies will cancel in light of the news tonight? What info do you hand about LastMinute? We are booked to go to Majorca and hoping and praying that it'll be cancelled so we don't lose the £2.4k that we've paid.

daisymay133 · 25/07/2020 22:58

Because it’s in many of their Covid conditions

Eg easyJet attached (plus I just got email cancellation thru for them saying all Spanish holidays)

My mate is jet 2 and had it confirmed at tea time

Tui had already said they’d cancel all holidays if there were isolation rules and on
trip advisor loads have tonight had email confirmations of cancellations

Not sure how it works third party tho sorry

Can I ask why people returning from Spain are told to quarantine for 14 days. Can they not go and get tested once they are home? Just watched the news and people had cancelled their holidays as they wouldn't be able to justify to their employers an additional 2 weeks off?
I am just curious.

daisymay133 · 25/07/2020 23:04

Asymptomatic people often get false negatives on tests I think that’s why

Uk doesn’t advise testing people without symptoms

cheninblanc · 25/07/2020 23:05

Icequeen01 because it has in incubation of 14 days. Getting tested does not mean you are in the clear. This has been said since very early on..

Icequeen01 · 25/07/2020 23:11

Thank you for the explanation and sorry if it was a daft question. It now makes me question something that happened at work regarding testing but that's not for this thread.😀

bluetongue · 25/07/2020 23:20

It’s feel bad for those who had booked Spanish trips before the pandemic but I think those who booked holiday travel abroad despite cases rising in Spain were a bit foolish.

I’m in Australia and can only visit some states due to closed borders. I must admit I’m wary of booking a trip to an open state even though I’m allowed to. Partly because of the worry of being stranded and partly because I’d hate to bring a Covid to my state. We only have two active cases so everyone would know it was you!

Out of interest, is the quarantine in the UK enforced in any way? I thought you just had to give your address at the border but the chan es if anyone checking up on you were nearly zero.

saltycat · 26/07/2020 00:17

Stay at home.

Most people knew this for ages. Not talking about those who booked pre March, you will be covered with insurance.

Am referring to those who booked DURING the pandemic. Sorry now. Would anyone like to contradict me here?

I suppose there will be many who will rant and rave, but the writing was on the wall wasn't it.

onanotherday · 26/07/2020 00:24

Saltycat it was definitely on the wall! I just don't understand why you would risk it. Besides the potential loss of money the idea of getting sick away from home or bringing infection back would worry me most.
I have a friend that drove to Greece when their government stopped flights... I thought I was very entitled and disregarded the concerns of others.

saltycat · 26/07/2020 00:31

onanotherday

Exactly. The moaning from those who booked post Covid is unreal, but not surprising.

Having said that I am sorry for those who are having trouble getting refunds too.

What a nightmare for many. But then again those who booked post Covid will have to take the hit.

Sorry if that sounds awful, but the truth sometimes hurts many people.

CKBJ · 26/07/2020 00:35

I wouldn’t want to travel anywhere abroad with so much uncertainty around. Surely people could get by one year without travelling abroad?!

eaglejulesk · 26/07/2020 01:06

I'm in a country where people have to quarantine for two weeks. They are tested when they arrive, and again nearer the end of the quarantine, and some are testing negative in the original test, but positive in the later one.
