If masks are made mandatory in England, will this put you off high street shopping?

Yes

Lemonmaid · 13/07/2020 14:05

No. Why on earth would it? Confused

Tootletum · 13/07/2020 14:05

I'm put off anyway. Masks won't make much difference, I don't want to go and get told where to stand and queue all day, so I shop online.

Comefromaway · 13/07/2020 14:05

No, it might encourage me to try going shopping. So far I am avoiding it.

Iwantacookie · 13/07/2020 14:06

Not really but it might stop me going for a browse where I might of picked up a few items

Yetiyoga · 13/07/2020 14:06

No.
It would make me want to go more.

Bbq1 · 13/07/2020 14:08

Yes. They aren't necessary and I can't breathe wearing one.

Comefromaway · 13/07/2020 14:11

I'm asthmatic and ds is autistic. We both find wearing face coverings difficult. But we both feel safer when others are wearing them so feel that if we choose to go out in public, we must wear one too.

Dh has been reading a lot of research (because of his job) about droplet spread and there are strong indicators that masks help to mitigate the risks.

Whathappenedtothelego · 13/07/2020 14:13

Yes, definitely. I have to wear one at work, and that is bad enough.

Hate all the queuing, hand sanitising, not touching, going one way round the shop, not being allowed in until someone has left.
Will save me money though, because I won't be buying anything, apart from weekly essential grocery shopping.

pastapestoparmesan · 13/07/2020 14:13

Yes, I hate them, agree they’re unnecessary and they seem to be a walking health hazard - people touch them far, far more than they would touch their face while maskless. Also I really struggle to understand what masked people are saying, despite having excellent hearing.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 13/07/2020 14:14

Yes. I have poor hearing and masks mean I can’t see people’s lips.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 13/07/2020 14:15

Yes

BabcockPeggy · 13/07/2020 14:15

Absolutely.

Hyperion100 · 13/07/2020 14:17

I'd be more inclined to go if everyone did their bit for community protection and wore a mask.

CountFosco · 13/07/2020 14:17

Yes.

I've been into town every week since the bookshops opened, quite happy with the measures there currently are in the shops. But I'll go back to online shopping if I have to wear a mask, it suggests the government thinks it's not safe to mix even fleetingly with other people inside and so why would I do it when I don't have to? It also suggests we really shouldn't have pubs, restaurants, and schools open since you are in all of those for longer and in closer proximity to others than in a shop and yet you can't wear a mask in a any of them due to drinking/eating/teaching.

Nihiloxica · 13/07/2020 14:18

Yes

Jerble · 13/07/2020 14:18

No but I’m not shopping unless essential at the moment. If masks were mandatory then I’d be more likely to go to the shops rather than shopping online. Eg my children both need new clothes and I’d rather take them to the shops to try for size etc but at the moment I’m put off.

ChaToilLeam · 13/07/2020 14:19

They are compulsory here in Germany unless you have a valid health reason why you can’t wear one. It’s really not so bad.

RedSoloCup · 13/07/2020 14:19

Yes!! Had to wear one a few times and hate it.

weepingwillow22 · 13/07/2020 14:20

No, given the lack of social distancing and poor hygeine I have seen in public places I would be much more inclined to visit shops etc if masks were mandated.

Lazypuppy · 13/07/2020 14:20

Yes

KenDodd · 13/07/2020 14:20

No
I'd prefer it.

Helenj1977 · 13/07/2020 14:22

No, I wear one now. People coughing in shops puts me off.

lunar1 · 13/07/2020 14:23

I'd be more likely to shop if people wore masks.

BittersweetMemories · 13/07/2020 14:24

Yes, purely because it takes going shopping from a fun way to pass a few hours into an unfun absolute mission. Not just the masks but the queuing, no browsing etc. Plus they've closed most of the roads in the town centre to allow for distancing on the pavements so I don't even know how to get to the car parks now. I just couldn't be bothered. Amazon has got a lot of my disposable income lately.
