If masks are made mandatory in England, will this put you off high street shopping?

I avoid the shops like the plague atm. Have done for years. I may venture to a supermarket if i was sure everyone would be wearing a mask, but as it stands i dont believe they will

Strugglingtodomybest · 13/07/2020 15:23

Yes, but tbh I don't go shopping very often anyway, I mostly shop online. If I really wanted something though, I'm sure I could manage a mask for a short dash into a shop.

PilatesPeach · 13/07/2020 15:24

but definitely CBA with going to a pub/restaurant and having to take it on and off or up and down between mouthfuls

not sure yet - depends on what the rules are if/when masks become mandatory - am sure some will argue that they should be worn inside in all public places.
I've also see it on the news in other countries where yes, this is happening most definitely.

ruddydogg · 13/07/2020 15:26

I’d be happier to shop if more people wore masks.

MyTearsAreOnFire · 13/07/2020 15:28

Im terribly anxious & I’d shop more if face masks were mandatory. Grin

ButterMeCrumpets · 13/07/2020 15:29

Fitting rooms aren't open now so I won't clothes shop until they are when I can try on as much as I like at home. Why would I make my life harder.

My DH has said he won't be venturing into a shop with masks and went today before they get mandated.

For all the people that 'might' start to venture out with masks there will be lots that think stuff it and stop spending or turn to online shopping. After all, most of us have had three months to get used to online shopping so I think this will have the reverse of the governments spend to help the high street if they do make them mandatory.

@PilatesPeach Ugh that would be ridiculous and would put me off for sure

I was an RN working in the operating room. We wore masks during surgery only. Masks came off between surgeries. We received breaks, rarely having to wear a mask longer than four hours at a time. In addition, surgery ORs are kept cold with excellent ventilation. FACTS MATTER

I'm very, very sure that won't be how it works. What countries are doing this? I live in Asia and we wear masks all the time when out, you take it off when your food/drink arrives and put it back on when you're done.

whenwillthemadnessend · 13/07/2020 15:37

No. I'd go more

user1495884620 · 13/07/2020 15:38

Yes, prefer lockdown to masks.

mrssmiling · 13/07/2020 15:38

No - I would prefer it.

bumblingbovine49 · 13/07/2020 15:38

No, it would me me MORE likely to go shopping more often if I could trust that the majority of people were wearing masks

mumpleasemayi · 13/07/2020 15:39

Yes it will put me off so I won't go at all.

BravoSalut · 13/07/2020 15:39

No. I would prefer it.

ItMustBeBedtimeSurely · 13/07/2020 15:39

No, I would be more likely to go.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 13/07/2020 15:42

No I've worn one recently during a hospital visit and also for optician appointment and actually got used to it quickly
However, I do most shopping online due to disability

daisychicken · 13/07/2020 15:45

Yes. I'm profoundly deaf. I cannot understand what is being said by anyone wearing a mask.

If everyone would wear a mask with transparent mouth panel then I and other deaf people will at least have a better chance of being able to communicate with people.

MarshaBradyo · 13/07/2020 15:47

I don’t need to high st shop atm except for dd’s shoes.

I have no problem with wearing a mask to get them and would probably prefer it if people did.

UselessTrees · 13/07/2020 15:47

Yes. I'm not keen on most shops anyway - too hot, cluttered, noisy etc. The current additional hassle of sanitiser stations, queuing, one-way systems, masks and the general air of anxiety just puts me right off. I want to do the right thing, but that will probably mean I will only go if I really have to.

BigChocFrenzy · 13/07/2020 15:50

No

I have a hearing disability, but I accept that masks are a necessary measure to help keep down infections

I live in Germany and masks have been mandatory here in shops since about mid-April

I wouldn't go into shops without masks, even with the much lower German infection & death rates

TennisButterfly · 13/07/2020 15:53

It depends.
If masks meant the rest of the measures were scrapped and I could nip in and grab something without queuing or I could have a good browse wondering around my own way at my own pace as normal then I would embrace it and shop more.
If it is in addition to all the current measures then it makes no difference as I won't be going anyway as shopping has become such a horrid regimented experience I don't want to do it.
There is nothing in the shops I can't get online apart from petrol, and DH usually gets that when it's his turn with the car.

PushyMeez · 13/07/2020 15:54

Yes definitely

Wannabangbang · 13/07/2020 15:54

No infact i would feel safer knowing everyone is wearing one and less swlf conscious wearing my mask

Hazelnutlatteplease · 13/07/2020 15:55

No. I might actually step in a shop before 2022...
