Will the scheme persuade you to go out?

OP posts:

“ 50% reduction, up to £10 per head, on sit-down meals and non-alcoholic drinks Monday-Wednesday. "

Plump82 · 08/07/2020 15:14

Nope because we don't ever eat out Monday - Wednesday.

Jrobhatch29 · 08/07/2020 15:15

Where's my £500!?!?!😂

PuzzledObserver · 08/07/2020 15:16

Depends how much virus is still circulating in my area by then.

SepticTankYank · 08/07/2020 15:17

I honestly thought "hmm. Something to do on a boring weeknight"

So yes, I'd use it to not cook and be told I'm helping the economy 😂😀

BlueBrian · 08/07/2020 15:18

No chance, because it would still mean spending money I wouldn't spend anyway.

Lovelydovey · 08/07/2020 15:19

Possibly - depends where, as £10 per head ain’t much of an incentive given that most places we previously ate in were either a real treat and expensive, or chain restaurants on a special offer (which I assume will go if there is a discount).

Qasd · 08/07/2020 15:20

We are going on a self catering break I think we can all predict which nights we will eat out and which we will eat in😂!

Seriously other than that no. The problem is a general need to save because job security is not great so we will have to think carefully about luxury spend even with a promise of money off!

Glittertwins · 08/07/2020 15:20

No because no decent independent restaurant is generally open on those days and are more than unlikely to accept anyway.

Orangeblossom78 · 08/07/2020 15:20

I might take the DC out for lunch at the cafe they like. Something to do perhaps if the weather is not great.

Orangeblossom78 · 08/07/2020 15:20

It's pubs as well. Non alcoholic drinks and food.

TudorChimney · 08/07/2020 15:21

Yes! Not going on holiday so have booked a few of our favourite pubs for lunch/dinner

ifonly4 · 08/07/2020 15:21

With DH wfh and finishing earlier due to no travel, we'll probably swap a Thurs/Fri meal out to a Tues/Wed - it doesn't put us off if it's a quieter night. Having said all this, we haven't eaten out yet so haven't got a feel for social distancing, hygiene etc.

Orangeblossom78 · 08/07/2020 15:22

Wonder if Wagamamas will open again. That would be good with kids too.

Orangeblossom78 · 08/07/2020 15:23

Ifonly went to a face the other day and quite normal except they take the order and bring the food rather than going up to order, (as normal in some places anyway) and had to sign in.

DivisionBelles · 08/07/2020 15:24

Doubt we'll use it. Still not confident enough to brave a pub or restaurant and a tenner isn't worth it to me.

BabyLlamaZen · 08/07/2020 15:25

Hah! It's just made it concrete to me that the government is desperate for us to spend and that it is nothing to do with being safe. I get it, but I'm not going out.

Helenj1977 · 08/07/2020 15:26

Possibly not.

Is is anywhere? Ie cafes, restaurants, mcdonald's??

SimonJT · 08/07/2020 15:28

Very clumsy wording...little did I know doing that was helping out.

LondonJax · 08/07/2020 15:28

No, because I wouldn't be going normally. Why would I spend money I wouldn't normally spend?

Orangeblossom78 · 08/07/2020 15:29

It is across the UK so Scotland and Wales too?

AgnesNaismith · 08/07/2020 15:30

Erm....don’t most people get this with a tastecard anyway? Likely to be the same old shit chain restaurants.....

FrugiFan · 08/07/2020 15:30

I dont need persuading but I will probably go out more if there is a discount :)

mrsm43s · 08/07/2020 15:30

Actually, potentially I would.

We're a family of 4 with 2 teens, so 4 adult meals, so even a single course in a gastro pub will be nearly £80 plus drinks. Knock that down to £40 plus drinks and it becomes a much more affordable treat. Ditto, it would knock a £40 cafe lunch and soft drink for 4 to a more affordable £20.

My biggest concern would be finding somewhere that I'm comfortable to eat in at the moment. I have my eye on a nice gastropub with a large canopied garden who are doing bookable, very spaced out tables with food only (no random walk ins). That would work for me. Not keen to sit inside anywhere really.

FrugiFan · 08/07/2020 15:31

@Helenj1977

Possibly not.

They have to sign up to it so it depends which cages and restaurants sign up. It only applies to eating in, not takeaway.
