Leicester facing full lockdown

According to the BBC www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-leicestershire-53206506.
Anyone living there - how do you feel about this? Personally I would feel terribly trapped, almost like I was being punished, like when teacher's used to keep a whole class behind due to the behaviour of a minority.

Thanks for the clarification @PatriciaHolm. It's often hard to work out which figures come from where.

Chaotic45 · 30/06/2020 14:23

From what I can gather the three golf courses inside the restricted zone are open, and Leicester Racecourse will be holding its racing event as planned today.

Pubs in my village about 10 mins outside the restricted zone have done a turn around and decided not to reopen at the weekend for fear of people gravitating this way for an evening out.

HeIenaDove · 30/06/2020 14:35

If the people breaking the rules ruining it for the majority are on benefits I would stick an ankle tag on them and the condition of receiving payment is doing as they are bloody told

You have a link to back this up of course.

There is a lot of anger growing in poorer communities.

Those who have never been on a ski trip. Those who have never been on a cruise. Or to Cheltenham festival
And who certainly didnt do it when the virus had already been well publicised unlike those on a higher income.

How could there be a link for an "if" hypothesis?
caramac04 · 30/06/2020 14:45

I feel so sad about this. I’m well away from the outbreak area and in fact I could walk to the lockdown boundary in 5 minutes.

HeIenaDove · 30/06/2020 14:53

jollies to the beach served no purpose other than selfish pleasure. But you can’t bring yourself to condemn that

Neither could Prof John Edmunds when he was on Channel 4 news last Friday.

PuddleView · 30/06/2020 14:57

Terrapin given the fact that you didn’t know where the A47 was before it was shown to you on this thread, your pontifications about this localised matter is a matter for question.

LemonTT · 30/06/2020 14:58

I don’t think Prof whoever is part of this conversation. If he is and he said the same racist rubbish then shame on him too.

HeIenaDove · 30/06/2020 15:01

Benefit sanctions have been reinstated this week. So you would have them sanctioned for not adhering to the guidelines when they are also sanctioned for not turning up to appointments. A lot of ppl on benefits are IN work.

Does the system which is back to "normal" this week know not to sanction ppl in Leicester How is the computer system going to handle this.

HeIenaDove · 30/06/2020 15:03

He didnt say anything racist He was minimizing the crowded beaches . It didnt go down well on Twitter. People being told not to see relatives yet pissing and shitting on beaches is OK

HeIenaDove · 30/06/2020 15:07

What did the Leicester mayor do?

Clearly I missed the new rule that you can only post on this thread with proof of address.

Do you really think that this issue is so unique to Leicester that it can only be discussed by its residents? Better let the whole of the media know as its been wall to wall coverage all day

Alex50 · 30/06/2020 15:19

@ChardonnaysPetDragon completely agree. Why aren’t we testing people before they even get on a plane to the UK?

woodhill · 30/06/2020 15:20

"A lot of those people on flights from India and Pakistan will end up in Leicester visiting relatives/ bringing over a new bride/ elderly parent to live with the family. It's very unlikely they will have been isolating in a hotel for 14 days first."

Presumably they have travel and healthcare insurance for their visit but really they should be quarantined first, isn't this the whole problem

PuddleView · 30/06/2020 15:21

But the media have done their research and are not accusing the Leicester coronavirus cases of being on benefits and who will need to be tagged.

TerrapinStation · 30/06/2020 15:30

You're confusing me with another poster, I've not made any reference to benefits or tagging. I wasn't initally a fan of the quote function but it does help keep track of who posts what.

You're right though that I'm not familiar with every A road in the country , I accept that one.

Alex50 · 30/06/2020 15:41

@woodhilli I wonder if the government know the source is from in coming flights but don’t want to say when they’re about to open up the tourist and flight industry.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 30/06/2020 15:49

Presumably (people on flights from India and Pakistan) have travel and healthcare insurance for their visit but really they should be quarantined first, isn't this the whole problem

I haven't a clue about the insurance situation, but if you mean quarantine after arriving in the UK, who's to ensure it's adhered to?
Already there have been reports that nationwide there have been hardly any fines levied for non-compliance, and if they focus this on Leicester - and on the asian community at that - the outrage will be overwhelming

Better, surely, to disallow general passenger flights from anywhere with a severe outbreak, but the will to do that doesn't seem to be there

brakethree · 30/06/2020 15:52

Why are people referencing Cheltenham, cruises and ski-ing holidays? These all happened before the government announced lockdown. Whilst I would agree we should have locked down earlier, the individuals that did these things were not going against guidelines. What is happening here is because people have not been adhering to the rules and unfortunately, for whatever reason, there has been a lack of enforcement of the guidelines.

Stuffofawesome · 30/06/2020 16:22

Bummer

Leicester facing full lockdown
user1497207191 · 30/06/2020 16:28

How big were the BLM protests in Leicester a few weeks ago? Just asking?

Most likely this

& totally agree with Puzzled that it's

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 30/06/2020 16:48

Why are people referencing Cheltenham, cruises and ski-ing holidays?

Because they think it proves that the rich, i.e. those who can do these things are to blame for everything.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 30/06/2020 16:50

Why aren’t we testing people before they even get on a plane to the UK?

Because that's going to slow things down at the airports and we can't possibly do anything that will upset the aviation industry.
