I guess the science has officially left the building. The threat of 3.5 million job losses in the hospitality sector had swung it.

Very few in the UK are listening to advice and guidance. I’ve been invited to countless gatherings right through ‘lockdown’ and after mass gatherings at the weekend what’s the point? The genuine sacrifices in the end will have had little effect.

SquirmOfEels · 08/06/2020 12:09

Given that at least one pub round here has taken to selling pints as takeaway, and everyone sits in the public green space opposite, I really don't see how how it's going to be different for letting those premises with outdoors space being permitted to let their customers use it.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 08/06/2020 12:22

Sounds good to me, can't wait!

Slothsarecreepy · 08/06/2020 14:24

Yes! Finally.

manicinsomniac · 08/06/2020 14:28

It's only a maybe but I'm very excited.

I know my village pubs beer garden is ready and safe.

I stick to all Lock down rules all the time but whatever the govt says we can do, I'm definitely doing.

SudokuBook · 08/06/2020 14:29

Not before time. 3.5 million job losses is hardly trivial. That would cause more hardship than deaths than the virus. Hopefully this is the start of common sense prevailing.

SudokuBook · 08/06/2020 14:29

More hardship and deaths

AlecTrevelyan006 · 08/06/2020 14:35

Cool

Bluntness100 · 08/06/2020 14:38

More hardship and deaths

Versus what? The death and hardship that would, occur with 3.5 million job losses?

Yeah, I mean 3.5 million job losses is hardly anything right?! Hmm

MadameMarie · 08/06/2020 14:45

Why should the economy continue to tank just for mass protests to happen anyway? Time to go back to normal but with an indefinite ban on mass gatherings.

IcedPurple · 08/06/2020 14:46

What 'science'? Outdoor restaurants have been open in parts of Europe for weeks, with none of those 'spikes' MNers are so fond of predicting. And 'the science' suggests that risks are pretty low outdoors in any case.

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 08/06/2020 14:47

Once again, do many people seem oblivious to the real threat of far more deaths than this virus. Education of children and their mental health thrown under a bus. Just 55 deaths today. Yes no death is good but it's lower now than pre lockdown. No second wave coming, virus likely burning out. Meantime do you really have any idea what will happen if the economy goes under?

God that would be horrendous it just emphasises why the lockdown has to end

I don't think some people do understand and won't until it hits them
Aposterhasnoname · 08/06/2020 14:49

Yippeee, best news I’ve heard for a long time. I can almost taste that cold beer.

IcedPurple · 08/06/2020 14:49

Some people are just loving all the drama and hate the thought of any semblance of normality returning.

iwantmysay · 08/06/2020 14:54

Well, the policy seems to be "return to normal/protect the economy/do what you like"

So why not? get rid of that silly, pride driven 14 day quarantine too, which will cost more jobs, many of which are well paid.

middleager · 08/06/2020 15:00

Good.

gingerbreadslice · 08/06/2020 15:01

This is brilliant news!

Polkadotties · 08/06/2020 15:06

I think some people really fail to grasp what would happen if a whole sector of the economy was basically wiped out. The outcome would be far far greater than that of a disease which has killed a small number of the population, the majority of which are the elderly.

florriepeck · 08/06/2020 15:06

Be fine as long as the weather is good and you don't want to go to the toilet.

Where did you get that graphic from, may I ask?
