Boris Johnson hosted a baby shower for Carrie Symonds at Chequers just two days before announcing "now is the time for everyone to stop non-essential contact with others" - yet more "necessary" travel from Downing Street revealed in the new Private Eye.

I was at work so couldn't watch PMQs.

Did we actually learn anything or did Starmer just question Boris and Boris bluster a continuous stream of non answers?

Roussette · 04/06/2020 08:01

Yes.

And then there's pics of Boris with an earpiece in. Which obviously is going to be picked up on.

I think he was rattled and he banged the table a few times. Given Starmer's ex profession, it was to me like a prosecution lawyer questioning a guilty man.

JackiFazaki · 04/06/2020 08:31

itsgettingwierd I learned that:

  1. I should wash my hands
  1. BJ does not answer letters from the Opposition. He did not reply to Kier Starmer's letter re schools. He then pretended that he had responded by phone. This was not a one on one call with KS, but a general call to Opposition leaders.
  1. He had not replied to a letter from Maria Eagle regarding the COVID payments to some Local Authorities. These now are not being paid in full, despite previous assurances that costs would be met. He gave her an assurance he would write to her on this.
  1. I should wash my hands. I never knew this before obvs.
  1. KS raised the issue of some MPs, who are shielding, not being able to vote. I'm fairly sure, after much bluster, that BJ agreed that they should be allowed a proxy vote.
  1. I think KS used the session to wind BJ up, to rattle him, and to worry him. He wants him nervous for PMQs. So playing a long game in this particular PMQ.
  1. Jeremy Hunt wants to be PM. He asked questions on test and trace that he knew BJ would waffle around. I saw him (JH) later at Select Committee giving Dido Wotsername a right grilling.

Generally though, BJ indeed tried to waffle. His incompetence was palpable, in a fairly empty chamber, bereft of the usual supporting privileged jeering.

  1. Additonally, I should wash my hands.

*Apols for mistakes above, health conditions, eyesight is not good this morning, very blurry.

Humphriescushion · 04/06/2020 09:17

Good summary thanks.

itsgettingweird · 04/06/2020 16:06

Jacki perhaps take yourself for a drive to sort your eyesight Wink thanks for the wash your hands advice Grin it's interesting because I think Boris has met his match with Stamer. He wants a dramatised courtroom with cheering and foot stamping but Stamer just doesn't rise to the bait and seems to cut through it all with a very quick blunt to the point question or statement.

We've needed strong opposition for a long time now. This should make Boris stronger and better. Not sure he's able to rise to the occasion though?

JackiFazaki · 05/06/2020 09:09

Took your advice and went for a long drive. Much better thanks.

Apparently, Police are looking at setting up their own T and T system. they don't trust the national one and have concerns about the security and safety of personnel.

I read this morning the cottage doesn't actually have planning permission!

I'd heard rumours it being possible!

alreadytaken · 11/06/2020 14:53

I'm more interested in the allegations that no council tax is being paid on the cottage.

itsgettingweird · 11/06/2020 14:58

Well that's probably because it doesn't actually exist if it was done through planning?

alreadytaken · 11/06/2020 15:20

well we know it exists - and now the council should do so perhaps they will investigate the back payments. Wasnt Al Capone prosecuted for tax evasion?

HeIenaDove · 11/06/2020 15:52
