Here it is - we are still slightly outraged

Cummings was the one who sacked Sonia Khan, and she was treated appallingly. Didn't he have the police escort her from the premises at the time? Totally over the top, and intended to discredit her publically.

Whatever the outcome of the Tribunal, his behaviour will again be under public scrutiny.

SouthWestmom · 02/06/2020 07:31

Fits with the resigning in six months though doesn't it?

OP posts:
PurplePansy05 · 02/06/2020 08:29

He already had to pay up £25k in 2012 for bullying when he was working under Michael Gove. That's nothing new.

"In 2012 a senior civil servant received a payout of £25,000 in a bullying case she took against Cummings and a senior member of Michael Gove’s team when Cummings was a special adviser at the Department for Education. An internal investigation found no grounds for disciplinary action."

JackiFazaki · 02/06/2020 09:16

It does fit in with the resigning in six months. He's got other plans I'm sure.
In the 2012 case, was Cummings named in the bullying action, or was the case taken against the Government department only?
Tax payers money wasted in the present Khan case. arguing that he should not be named as a respondent, just the Cabinet Office.
So pleased that he is jointly named.

Humphriescushion · 02/06/2020 10:57

It appears that the stats agency is also a little critical of the testing stats!
www.statisticsauthority.gov.uk/correspondence/sir-david-norgrove-response-to-matt-hancock-regarding-the-governments-covid-19-testing-data/

This is one extract. Good to see.
"I warmly welcome of course your support for the Code of Practice for Statistics. But the testing statistics still fall well short of its expectations. It is not surprising that given their inadequacy data on testing are so widely criticised and often mistrusted."

Lucywilde · 02/06/2020 11:55

I actually just want to bang my head into the wall at how this is being handled. My Facebook is flooded with people saying how happy they are that their kids are back to school. It feels a lot like people think the virus is gone. I swing between thinking I’m over worrying to thinking maybe people aren’t worrying enough. Especially as our government are very obviously incompetent.

JackiFazaki · 02/06/2020 12:55

That's a really damning letter Humphries. Comprehensively damning.
Joining the head bangers club, wait for me Lucy.

Humphriescushion · 02/06/2020 13:20

Isnt it @ jack. It was the second letter he sent as a follow up. I read hancocks reply and then saw the response. It does make me feel a bit more heard when you see others trying to get a straight answer.

HeIenaDove · 02/06/2020 14:53

They have retrospectively closed the Cummings loophole which tells me they knew damn well it was wrong. Sly hypocritical gaslighting bastards.

PurplePansy05 · 02/06/2020 15:29

As per the quote, the 2012 case was against Cummings and another senior official at the DfE.

The closing of the Cummings loophole in the new regs is truly disgusting.

The muddled up test numbers that the government lied about are disgusting.

I have zero trust in this government.

Also zero trust Johnson will go unless he's forced out.

quiteathome · 02/06/2020 16:00

I can't but actually I can believe that they changed that loophole.

I have lost trust in this government.

quiteathome · 02/06/2020 16:03

Implies I had trust. I possibly did at some point. We are up the creek in January when we crash out for Brexit.

I need an emmigration plan

Roussette · 02/06/2020 17:08

Just watching the briefing with Little Matty Hancock. I hope he gets grilled about the cock up with testing statistics.

And BBC showed some shocking figures earlier about 'excess deaths' in I think it was 2 month period. Excess means more than would normally happen at this time of year. So it could be MH issues, effects of COVID, where it was mentioned on the death cert but not the prime cause (don't really understand that bit)... and the number was 60,000 Shock

I just find these briefings grandstanding. Trying to make out things are better than they are etc

SouthWestmom · 02/06/2020 17:21

I think they've closed the loophole to avoid people using parents for work related childcare.

I also think if we keep being ok with nicknames for the Tories it makes them more palatable and less 'other' and actually powerful and unpleasant. The worst thing that ever happened with Boris and his image was bloody panel shows making him look harmless and a funny bloke.

OP posts:
AlovelybitofsquirrelJackie · 02/06/2020 17:25

@Noeuf where can I find out more about this closed loophole as I've not seen anything? My mam has been coming to my house two nights a week when I'm on call for work and she picks mine up from school and gives them their tea too. I'm in healthcare and couldn't work without her continued help

SabrinaThwaite · 02/06/2020 17:30

@AlovelybitofsquirrelJackie

It’s reported on here;

www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/coronavirus-laws-dominic-cummings-lockdown-childcare-relatives-a9542381.html%3famp

Bad legislation sneaked in on Sunday with no Parliamentary scrutiny.

JackiFazaki · 02/06/2020 17:33

Just watching this briefing. It's pure waffle so far.

Hancock. "I'd Urge LBC listeners to use the capacity if they need it. You are helping us trace the virus and control it" .

All that is missing is Tommy Cooper going " spoon jar, jar spoon"

AlovelybitofsquirrelJackie · 02/06/2020 17:41

@SabrinaThwaite thanks. I'll be breaking the law two days a week from now then. My local constabulary will need to decide if they want access to forensic medical examinations for half a week at a time if they want to enforce this!

AlovelybitofsquirrelJackie · 02/06/2020 17:43

@JackiFazaki 😂😂😂

alreadytaken · 02/06/2020 17:45

It always was illegal to travel to relatives, there was never a "loophole" because relatives are not a "critical public service" This is more gaslighting - trying to claim a loophole where none existed. I'm disappointed the indy fell for it.

SouthWestmom · 02/06/2020 17:52

I think it's two separate issues. And I think the paper are muddying them.

  1. DC 'used his instincts' under the children/vulnerable person category.
  1. Childcare has been defined to align with existing definitions - I think this is coincidence to prepare for a return to work so people don't travel to drop the kids at their mums while at work.

More confirmation that they really REALLY dont like working weekends.

www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/coronavirus-government-weekend-briefings-scrapped-low-ratings-a9544406.html

itsgettingweird · 03/06/2020 06:10

And ..... as I said very recently. They are cutting the briefings!

Tbf just weekends and I said they'd go down to 2-3. And they have said weekends are quieter all the way though. I guess they've hit even quieter as everyone is out at weekend and even more so as people return to work and so only have weekends to go out.

Best bit was Boris will lead one of these. Well - yes! He's meant to be in charge!

SabrinaThwaite · 03/06/2020 09:57

Exclusive: Boris Johnson takes back control of coronavirus crisis with Downing Street shake-up

Let’s face it, Boris never was and never will be in control. What a farce.
