the problem with these posts is that they don't differentiate between particular precautions people take that affect no one else (I don't wash my shopping but couldn't care less if you someone else does) and a legitimate concern about how we get things moving again.
So, like OP, I think for the vast bulk of it, the danger is not that severe even if we do get it. However, it's clear that the danger IS very severe for some people and that allowing it to run rampant through the country is not going to help those people, so imposing social distancing and other measures to limit the spread seem sensible. It also seems sensible as a way to prevent the outlying deaths - the very occasional person who has no obvious indicators of being high risk but nonetheless gets it and dies.
But ridiculing people who are scared seems pointless. And when you consider how little the government has done to encourage any sense of trust in what they say, I honestly can't blame people. If we had a credible government with clear messaging, I might be more sympathetic to people frustrated with others who seem to overstate the risk. But with the mixed messages and the clear feeling that we're all being lied to/kept in the dark.... well, I even question my own beliefs about Covid 19.
