The story has more holes in it than a string vest I haven't heard that expression for a long while, my uncle used to wear a string vest. It was indeed holey.

DC is an embarrassment. But I'm not going to run around having BBQs and not caring about lockdown because he's a twat. We need to exit (fairly urgently) but cautiously and systematically and keep an eye on the numbers.

I wouldn't be risking my parents because DC risked his.

22 March.

You should stay at home as much as possible.
The reasons you may leave home include:
• For work, where you cannot work at home
• Going to shops that are permitted to be open - to get things like food and medicine
• To exercise or spend time outdoors
• Any medical need, including to donate blood, avoid illness or injury, escape risk of harm, or to provide care or help to a vulnerable person
Who this guidance is for
This guidance is for people planning to visit second homes or holiday premises during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Essential travel does not include visits to second homes, camp sites, caravan parks or similar, whether for isolation purposes or holidays. People must remain in their primary residence. Not taking these steps puts additional pressure on communities and services that are already at risk.

People with holiday homes and caravans are still not permitted to travel to their second home or to stay overnight.

Leaving your home - the place you live - to stay at another home is not allowed.

Nothing happening on andrew marr at the moment. Just chatting to Lord Hall and the impact covid 19 has had on the bbc. 🤷‍♀️

I am sure there are going to be some stories about people who have been very ill and who have had to make some heartbreaking decisions about their children because they were sticking to the guidelines.

These stories will come out

Well, on the 22nd March you weren't meant to travel for self isolation purposes

The Andrew Marr show seems to be running an advertorial for the BBC!

Well it’s crystal clear now. The police must be banging their heads on the desk in despair.

You can just imagine behind the scenes at the bullingdon club. Cummings slapping Shapps on the shoulder with well done old boy, got me out of a tight corner there, faltered a bit on that last question hohoho guffaw guffaw.

It reminded us of the Rees mogg comment too.

They are really hoping most of joe public are thick enough to just accept their blistering and the whole thing will blow over.

I don't know which bit of 'Stay at Home' Cummings didn't get.

I thought the reason for his 3 part slogans was so the instructions were clear and easy to understand. I have 4 year olds at work who can tell me they need to stay home to stop people getting sick.

I'm wondering if they are fluffing until shapps recovers from his sky interview and joins them on the bbc?

I wonder what the actual law states?

There was a section on a reasonable excuse to leave home. I don't know if there was any law on what to do if you had Covid-19 - because guidance is different to law

Shapps is probably out the back, refusing to go on, desperately ringing round ministers to get them to take a turn on this.

I really wish the reporters would quote the guidance

I'm sure Victoria Derbyshire was asking people with similar stories yesterday on Twitter.

Chomalunga

I quoted the regulations in the last thread. If you look them up the guidance pretty much reflects them. The relevant exemptions are to provide care not to receive it

I have no doubt that Piers Morgan will have stories next week.
And Jeremy Vine

This story is 'perfect' for talk shows - but there will be heartbreaking stories.

Shapps did better than his performance at the briefing though didn’t he. He was much improved at making the outright lies and bullshit convincing.

Alasdair Campbell is also very busy on Twitter encouraging people to contact MPs with similar stories.

Trouble for DC is, much as he has fans and allies he will also have enemies. Which force is more determined and powerful will be interesting.

Plus publicly DC is not a liked public figure. He isn't approachable or attractive or PR friendly (fair play, at least he isn't trying to do that) so sympathy isn't already there. Unlike BJ who is genuinely liked by some and has some latitude around things.

I think Piers will leave this alone. I doubt his own use of his second home has been blameless.

In fact I'm amazed there haven't been a lot more of these stories.

I've signed the petition online mentioned by a pp above and written to my MP about Dominic Cummings.
He should resign, it's very disappointing and undermines any trust the public had in the Goverment.
The Governments response is embarrassing and makes me angry.
Feels like they're taking us for fools.

I am guessing they are going for:

d)to provide care or assistance, including relevant personal care within the meaning of paragraph 7(3B) of Schedule 4 to the Safeguarding of Vulnerable Groups Act 2006(1), to a vulnerable person, or to provide emergency assistance;

(On the law, I remember making a big point that there was no time element or number of times someone can go out)

Likely scenario is that he will be "suspended" or maybe even resign, then make a reappearance say after Christmas in a low profile but nonetheless influential role. I would also expect that he still shows up for informal meetings, regular phone calls etc., while having time to hone his ideas.

There again, he may just brazen it out. Tories have form. That said, the credibility of the PPE brigade has taken a serious hit recently - they will have to do something.
