Furlough madness

Katykitten2 · 19/05/2020 19:12

Surely I'm not the only one who thinks this furlough scheme, whilst deserving of some merit, is far too generous? At 80% there is little to encourage people to return to work since this other 20% is accounted for by the savings in petrol, coffees and other work related daily expenditure.
This has all got to be paid for remember.

It depends on your circumstances if you are going to work for pin money then yes it's generous if you are working to pay rent feed a family and barley making end meet before then you comments are just offensive .

Littlepond · 19/05/2020 22:11

Furlough bashing is the new benefit bashing. Tedious.

Biffsboys · 19/05/2020 22:15

There are 3 of us furloughed in my house - that’s a big drop in household income ! We will all be back to work like a shot if our jobs are still there ?

Pomegranatepompom · 19/05/2020 22:16

My BIL is furloughed but working for cash. That's annoying.
I think it should have been capped lower @ £2000, but for people on minimum wage, we should have given 100%.

herecomesgeralt · 19/05/2020 22:19

You can't just 'go back to work'. You have to wait until your boss decides you can go. back to work. Most people aren't furloughed by their own choice!

imsooverthisdrama · 19/05/2020 22:30

Not this again !!
We didn't choose , my place if work is closed until the government decides it can open then I'll go back .
Also what's it got to do with you .?

This has all got to be paid for remember.
I didn't realise sorry , I'll go back immediately. oh right that's it I can't because it's shut ! . Please will you contact my employer tell them to ignore government advice because did they know this needs to be paid remember and this scheme is far too generousHmm.
It is generous your right I don't need 80% of my pay to pay my mortgage, my dc don't need a house to live in we can get a cardboard box or a old skip to sleep in . Thanks for pointing this out op . Confused

nancy75 · 19/05/2020 22:33

imsooverthisdrama you probably want a whole cardboard box to yourself to sleep in, gah you’re so selfish, don’t you know cardboard boxes have to be paid for by someone. Wink

LilacTree1 · 19/05/2020 22:41

OP be honest

Do you know how furlough works?

palacegirl77 · 19/05/2020 22:41

We own a dental laboratory. Dental work has stopped. We have been FORCED to close. Our staff are furloughed. If they werent furloughed they would all be unemployed now, through absolutely no fault of their own. Would that be better? They have kids to feed. Theyd give their arms to be back at work now, as would we. Its very likely we will lose our business to this and god forbid our home. Get real.

HeIenaDove · 19/05/2020 22:43

Im increasingly beginning to think that the only thing that might bring the OPs (and others like hers) mind into focus is if they catch COVID.

LilacTree1 · 19/05/2020 22:45

Helena how would that change OP mind?

imsooverthisdrama · 19/05/2020 22:47

@nancy75 I was thinking a cardboard box each, I know very selfish Grin

WitchyMoo · 19/05/2020 22:52

I'm assuming you're alright op on 100% pay , are quite wealthy , or not on furlough and are ' jealous if us sitting at home coining it in for doing nothing ' because otherwise you wouldn't have started such a disgusting thread
I've lost about £600 a month , fucking quaffing champagne in the sun me
Oh and my son, who thankfully lives with me has lost about that too , he's surviving off the bank of mum and dad .l.... oh wait ... as there is no bank as we've LOST £600 FFS

WitchyMoo · 19/05/2020 22:54

Oh and just to add, I work in a pub , so one of the last to go back and we all know how these people who work in pubs are raking it in don't we and can afford such a drop in wage

I think some companies have used it as an excuse to save money even though they are still operating. Not another thing to add to the bashing threads. Furlough bashing now.

imsooverthisdrama · 19/05/2020 23:03

I think the op just wanted to start a thread just to piss people off .
At least own it op and reply to 1 or 2 of these posts , or maybe your doing something like research the furloughed scheme that's why you have disappeared. Hmm

WitchyMoo · 19/05/2020 23:03

Furlough bashing is the new benefits bashing

Crosshall24 · 19/05/2020 23:03

croprotationinthe13thcentury

Did you think to read this thread before posting
Not one person has said they are enjoying furlough quite the opposite
I for one day as in tears when this happened ( work in the travel industry which I can assure you is not well paid ) not because I was going to 80% pay but because a job I love and have been doing for 20 odd years will not be the same again for a long long time and there was not one thing myself and my team could do about

Do yourself a favour I’m future think before you post

Sparrowcrane · 19/05/2020 23:07

Completely support furloughs where businesses were forced to shut. I do think that the scheme is not well regulated at the moment as a lot of companies have used it to cover some of their payroll costs without any need. There are companies out there which are not affected and are making decent profits on a monthly basis yet they used the scheme to furlough a percentage of their employees

Desiringonlychild · 19/05/2020 23:09

Actually read on a FB group that some people would using the business bounce back loan as deposit for investment property. Thats illegal and OP, you should focus your energy on such people.

Yes I agree with this, but it's far easier to be all angry and sanctimonious about the people on furlough isn't it? They can Twitter about tax payers money and tax hikes and how they'll have to pay for us lazy layabouts sitting in the sun getting paid for fuck all for years and even better the ones that do lose their jobs can then be benefit scroungers too.
It's like a wet dream for some people isn't it.

SnoozyLou · 19/05/2020 23:25

Don’t worry. As soon as employers start having to contribute, it will all go out of the window.

Imagine pubs and restaurants that may not be open for months. Zero income coming in.
There’s no way they’ll be able to pay staff.

Discobar · 19/05/2020 23:30

@snoozyLou - Companies will be asked to contribute. You don't really think that those sectors that won't be open will not be supported by the government do you?
