Furlough madness

Surely I'm not the only one who thinks this furlough scheme, whilst deserving of some merit, is far too generous? At 80% there is little to encourage people to return to work since this other 20% is accounted for by the savings in petrol, coffees and other work related daily expenditure.
This has all got to be paid for remember.

Not blaming employees blaming govt for it's excesses. Furlough scheme far too generous. Employees need to wise up to their eventual unemployment.

Yes Mtbf you are right.

@Oldsu I’m going back to work and will continue to work won’t I? It’s not my fault a pandemic came and closed my work down? I’ve only been in the working world for 10 years for gods sake - I literally couldn’t have worked any extra years as I was a child? What’s your problem? You are actually calling me a scrounger because I’ve not worked 50 years when I’m only in my 20s? Jesus

KaptenKrusty · 21/05/2020 20:42

And I am entitled to it - I’ve been paid the money! Would you rather I went unemployed on the dole for the next few years instead? Then what would you think of me @Oldsu? Wtf 😂

Katykitten2 · 21/05/2020 20:47

Employers will stop furlough pay very soon now that the Govt is expecting them to pay employers NI and AE contributions.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 21/05/2020 20:49

@Katykitten2 I'm pretty sure furloughed employees are aware of their situation. Why do you think we need you to tell us this?

KaptenKrusty · 21/05/2020 20:50

Why are you just saying stuff Everyone already knows @Katypyee of course furlough will be stooped eventually - the whole point was just to keep businesses afloat until they are allowed open again ! I don’t get what your point is at all tbh! And nothings going to change because you don’t agree with it or think it’s too generous - it already exists whether you think it’s wrong or not 😂

KaptenKrusty · 21/05/2020 20:50

Haha cross posted with you @Waxonwaxoff0

Waxonwaxoff0 · 21/05/2020 20:57

@KaptenKrusty honestly. OP obviously thinks she's imparting some great wisdom. I'm well aware that I'm in a precarious position being furloughed. This isn't new knowledge. Hmm

ImADisgrace · 21/05/2020 21:05

Not blaming employees
Employees need to wise up

Can you explain this please, op? In what way do we need to wise up? What can furloughed workers do that will make you happy? Genuine question. You say you don't blame employees for being in this situation, yet treat them with so much contempt in your posts.

Do you just want everyone to lose their jobs in stead of being furloughed? Please tell me what you would like to happen.

KaptenKrusty · 21/05/2020 21:27

So just had a look at the op’s previous posts on other topics - she said on another post that she doesn’t work - I can’t believe you have the cheek to diss people in employment who have been paying taxes and working up until being furloughed when you don’t even have a job - you can’t even say that your tax money is funding the furlough scheme - You’ve got no right to be annoyed tbh - I’m guessing it’s just jealousy 😂

Crosshall24 · 21/05/2020 22:20

Katykitten2 now sending messages direct to people - I have had one too

Sparklingbrook · 21/05/2020 22:24

Has anyone not had one? Confused

Oldsu · 21/05/2020 22:50

KaptenKrusty I am calling you out on your entitled attitude not calling you a scrounger as I said I disagree with the OPs post, but your own contribution means nothing and neither do mine, if you think like that after 10 years I would hate to see what you will be like when you have paid in for 50 years, your 10 years my 50 years are not a pot for us to draw on, its not our personal money, we are not entitled to anything more than the state will give us due to our own personal circumstances, no I wouldn't want to see anyone on benefits who can work, but then UC WTFs that? I wouldn't get it anyway and guess what I don't feel I am entitled to it.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 21/05/2020 22:51

Well, now I feel left out Hmm

imsooverthisdrama · 21/05/2020 22:58

Wise up ?
We know the furloughed scheme will end soon and we will either go back to work hopefully or made redundant.
@Katykitten2 sorry but you make zero sense and now you are saying not blaming employees just government you wasn't saying any of this in your op .

Mulhollandmagoo · 21/05/2020 23:13

@KaptenKrusty I'm with ya 🙌 I raised a similar point on FB earlier by a key worker who works in the post office as she wrote a scathing attack on furloughed workers, she 'bets it was all you furloughed staff at the beach' and 'you've kicked all keyworkers in the gut' she then messaged me to tell me that I need to have more respect and that furloughed people should realise how lucky they are getting an extended holiday off the back of their hard work. I mentioned that being furloughed brings it own set of problems, to which I was told 'but they aren't important right now, right now we should be focusing on the key workers who are putting their lives at risk'

What????? 🤷‍♀️ Furloughed staff have been made out to be benefit frauding scroungers and it's not on, right now everyone needs to respect each other

ImADisgrace · 21/05/2020 23:42

Has anyone actually got a direct answer from a furlough basher on what they think the government ought to do in stead of creating the furlough scheme? Seems to me every time this is challenged they don't have a reasonable answer. Probably think we should all just lose our jobs and stop taking handouts like scroungers.

I bet if they were the ones who were furloughed it would be a different matter though Hmm

Justanotherscumbag · 22/05/2020 06:53

Not blaming employees
Employees need to wise up

I think you need to go back and start reading the replies you've had to this thread and others that are similar.
The ones from furloughed workers who say they're worried about their jobs, not just in the immediate future but in the longer term, especially in travel/tourism and hospitality and leisure. Worried about how sustainable these industries are when you know the social distancing measures that are likely to be put in place are not going to attract people to go and 'enjoy themselves' on holiday, or for a meal out or down the pub.
But they, nor you have a crystal ball, I don't know how this is going to play out any more than you do. I have ideas about what will happen, but I don't know. I'm just glad that we'll have the opportunity to try and make it work, rather than all these businesses just closed down, with no hope of reopening.
At least under the furlough scheme, there is a chance of businesses affected getting up and running again.
I don't need to wise up, I'm living with this every day, I'm well aware of what's happening. I'm well aware that the short term future at least is going to look very different, and it's likely to have a big impact on my future, and that of my daughter.
But right now the virus is in charge, the infection and death rates are in charge, the government are in control of interpreting those rates and deciding the next course of action. The influence I have over those things personally are miniscule, I can do my bit but on the larger scale, that bit is insignificant.
Why do you think employees need to wise up - because they're sat in the sun, or going for a walk? In what way do those actions lead you, or anyone to believe that furloughed workers aren't very well aware of what's happening around them and need you to wade in telling them to wise up?

NiteFlights · 22/05/2020 07:18

Has anyone actually got a direct answer from a furlough basher on what they think the government ought to do in stead of creating the furlough scheme?

Nope.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 22/05/2020 07:29

I've seen people saying that furloughed should just be put on Universal Credit instead. Not sure how that would be better, it is still at the cost of the tax payer and then many more businesses would go under and people would end up on UC a lot longer than they will be on furlough.

NiteFlights · 22/05/2020 07:33

Imagine the bureaucracy involved, apart from anything else.

I’m sure the government will have considered the option, and rejected it. Give it much thought and you can see why - unless any furlough bashers can give their reasoning as to why this would be a good idea?

searchforsista · 22/05/2020 19:31

I really feel for those in the hospitality, culture, tourism travel & some retail sectors.
These are going to be hit hard if they can't adapt their business model, which many can't to remain profitable.
However there are other areas of growth, and other sectors are booming and making money hand over fist.
Those furloughed now in vulnerable sectors would be better off applying for jobs elsewhere now, before furlough is removed and they end up with limited choices and much more competition.
I know a person who has done that, they have been furloughed from hospitality job, now work with me in a different company (she used to work here a couple of years ago) so is earning furlough & a wage currently.
When furlough ends she will stay on at my workplace, if she wants, or get another job somewhere else.

Mtbf · 22/05/2020 20:03

I am sure given more time and planning, the government would have preferred to be able to provide Furlough that is proportionate to need but they just didn’t have the time to do this. As they had to move quickly, there will be some people getting less than they need and some people getting more. My sisters son for example who lives at home still and pays her £50 a week doesn’t need the £1400 he is getting. Saying that he may need the savings in the future should his job be at risk.
