Yes the increase is the key number not the incidence

Its about managing the risk, the virus isnt going to disappear and we cant all sit on our arses forever.

Contact tracing should contain the virus just fine.

How many kids in French schools have other Corona viruses ?
Are the kids ill ?
Are they contagious?
The other corona viruses are certainly contagious and make people ill.

We have to learn to live with COVID as we have the other coronaviruses

I think that is a small number. Of course there are going to be cases. There will be cases amongst those teachers and pupils whether or not they are at school.

As a previous poster has said when are you all going to remember it’s about managing the virus not stopping anyone ever getting it. The majority of us will probably get it, but the measures are there to protect the nhs and vunerable, not eradicate it. We need a vaccine for that .

@Hippywannabe Covid isn't just going to disappear! Even IF/WHEN a vaccine is produced which may some time off. We can't all sit doing nothing until then.

As with every virus it spreads and we are just going to have to manage to live with just like we do with the other 6? coronaviruses

70 is low - have these kids been tested/ have they recovered? I'd be very concerned if that was 70 deaths in children from covid with no underlying conditions

If 40,000 schools have reopened then I agree, that's very low. And it means nothing u less you know how many children had it in the same period of time whilst schools were closed.

70 cases out of what I’m thinking must be millions of pupils seems very good to me, if they are “just” cases and not serious or critical cases.

Also, just because a child is at school, it doesn’t mean the child caught it at school! If schools are enforcing social distancing, I reckon it’s probable they caught it elsewhere when not socially distancing.

Arguably, opening schools could actually reduce the potential for transmission, ensuring that children mix in a socially distanced and managed environment, reducing the opportunity for some children (of parents who are not especially concerned about Covid) to mix closely with others.

Scare mongering. The virus is here. It's not going to magically disappear overnight. Are you suggesting schools never reopen?

It started with a child in a reception class.

Out of 40,000 schools opening only a third of children that should be attending those are actually in school.

That’s fairly low, especially if 40,000 schools have opened!

This virus isn’t going anywhere, we will have to learn it’s part of our life the way winter flu is. Anyone that thinks it’s disappearing is deluding themselves

I think we also need to remember the vast majority get this virus and are ok, they may feel rough for a while but they will not die.

I see the schools immediately closed to prevent further spread.

It looks as if they probably had it before they went to school, surely we need a few more weeks before they know the true impact of reopening.

Interesting that they shut the school we are just planning to keep the infected bubble off school.

The article says that 1.4 million children have returned to school. 70 doesn’t seem high, it hasn’t been eradicated so they are going to be a number of cases.

Some schools (in the Var) have decided not to open until September - children were going back last Monday but school decided against it. Child is 5.

I wonder if this opens questions about children and staff being tested before going back into school ?
Also about acting differently in different areas as eight of those schools closed are in one French City.
Their secondary schools are returning by areas also rather than all at once.
