Do you reckon we could go on lockdown again

If there is another spike ? I’m happy to go back to work but also scared and I can’t really explain why. I’m young and healthy so not really at risk...just a bit scared to leave my bubble

Yes absolutely. If the R goes over one they could tighten it up again.
I get what you mean though, outside got a bit scary after so many weeks.

houseplantlover · 17/05/2020 12:36

Yes we almost certainly will. There'll be a second peak as restrictions are eased then lockdown again in autumn/winter to ease pressure on the NHS. We're in this for the long haul unfortunately

Scottishgirl85 · 17/05/2020 12:36

Our doctor friends are preparing for another peak in July...

Bestof7 · 17/05/2020 12:37

Yes, of course. If things become bad enough to threaten the health services' abilities to cope.

VideographybyLouBloom · 17/05/2020 12:37

Well we’d have to wouldn’t we. Would I be happy about it, personally and economically? No!

AmNot · 17/05/2020 12:37

30 mins back in work and it'll all seem very normal again.

LuckyMarmiteLover · 17/05/2020 12:38

I think local lockdowns are far more likely once we have test, track and trace up and running. Hopefully we won’t need a national lockdown again.

frasersmummy · 17/05/2020 12:40

We need to have this one lifted before we can say will we lockdown again! (Scotland)

PaddyF0dder · 17/05/2020 12:40

I’d go so far as to say that another lockdown is essential.

Winter is going to be grim. I suspect the plan is to relax a bit through summer and autumn, and let the public recharge a bit. And then the lockdown hammer will fall from winter, with an optimistic hope of a vaccine in the spring.

Cornettoninja · 17/05/2020 12:42

It’s entirely possible.

Personally I don’t feel that it’s the right time to ease restrictions at all and we would have benefited hugely from a couple more weeks. One to get our infection numbers lower and secondly to have our testing and tracing strategies up and running; any teething problems could have been ironed out while we were still largely in lockdown.

I understand the economic need but I’m fairly married to the idea of short term pain long term gain. My area is already seeing a spike in reported symptoms (from the ZOE symptom tracker) which concerns me so soon after a very minor easing of restrictions.

NeverTwerkNaked · 17/05/2020 12:43

Definitely. Highly likely to be another peak. Possibly more than one more.

The legislation has been drafted to allow for a series of lockdowns

MrsKCastle · 17/05/2020 12:43

Yes, definitely. I think the restrictions will change over time, and may be more local rather than national at times. But I don't think we'll be back to 'normal life' until summer 2021 at the absolute earliest.

Cornettoninja · 17/05/2020 12:49

This is my main area of concern. I’ve worked throughout and my employer gives no shits about about prevention. They say it can’t be done and that’s it. This becomes riskier as society moves about more. I dare say my employer isn’t the only one and there are little to no consequences. I also foresee it being very frowned upon to continue to abide by the 14 day isolation period (or negative test). My employer pressured people to find alternative childcare during lockdown if their kids were showing symptoms. Nothing in writing of course but no one wants to be in the position of losing Their job right now do they?

People who don’t see the point of this are in positions of power and don’t see why they should take any responsibility.

namechangergamechanger1 · 17/05/2020 12:54

Over winter, definitely at some point. I'm organising the house (young kids) and outdoors to accommodate being able to cope with that!

FTMF30 · 17/05/2020 12:55

I don't think there will be another lockdown. Our government seems to just care about the economy. They seem more reactive than proactive and I think, unless death rates rise catastrophically, they will do nothing.

MadameMarie · 17/05/2020 12:58

I'm not sure another lockdown is the plan even if it might be needed.

PermanentTemporary · 17/05/2020 13:00

I don't think the government will do it. Possibly local ones or intense shielding.

NaturalCleaningParticles · 17/05/2020 13:00

Yes, probably in the late summer/early autumn.

HairyFloppins · 17/05/2020 13:03

No I don’t think so. It’s early days but no other country has had a second wave, just small clusters from imported cases. But never say never. I really don’t think the U.K. would lock down again.

MarcelineMissouri · 17/05/2020 13:04

I think there is unlikely to be a full lockdown again. It is more likely to be local or industry specific. There are so many measures and systems being put into place now that it will be a lot easier for many places to stay open and work through it.

Zisforstripyoss · 17/05/2020 13:05

IMO, absolutely. This next year or so will be a series of lockdowns / loosenings.

MadameMarie · 17/05/2020 13:05

They seem more reactive than proactive and I think, unless death rates rise catastrophically, they will do nothing.

They really, really didn't want to lockdown in March but were bullied (or shamed) into it in the end once it became untenable. It'd be the same again for another lockdown as it'd be a last resort.

The Tories are an election winning machine by being on the side of public opinion enough to win elections and lockdown is the most successful policy they've had in terms of polling.

Zisforstripyoss · 17/05/2020 13:06

Pressed send too soon - also will likely be localised as there is such a variety in cases area by area.

Bluntness100 · 17/05/2020 13:08

I think it’s highly unlikely. It would have to be awful before the government would consider it.

If people had went back to work and school willingly it would be a possibility, but blame the lazy greedy folks trying to string this on. They can’t afford another lock down it’s that simple. They are struggling to get out of this one.

PinkBuffalo · 17/05/2020 13:08

We are still in lockdown though? I cannot go to gym or community centre. Everyone working from home apart from me and one colleague. We still in lockdown. I just by my own and not see no one until we allowed Sad
