Government won't talk to GMB and This Morning!!

Disneylover4321 · 11/05/2020 20:20

I was watching GMB and This Morning today and they were talking about how the government press team wouldn't talk to either shows.
Surely this isn't acceptable??
The government can't just hide and not be interviewed?

@mummmy2017

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and I respect that. Your opinion is that it makes sense that they won't go on the shows, and while I don't agree with that I will respect it as you are entitled to your opinion.

Disneylover4321
I want out of this lockdown so badly.
It is driving me mad, but I can see that all we can do is wait and try to limit who we interactive with to stop more deaths.
So the experts have said being outside should be safe, if we keep apart, so then we can try that and wait two weeks and check numbers.
How many ways can you say that?
News media need new news to fill content.

I used to watch GMB because I found it quite amusing to listen to the banter. But I no longer watch it because something happened and it tipped over the edge. I find it too cringey now with all the shouting and hectoring. As others have said up thread I don’t get any information from it anymore. I prefer a calm measured two way interview.

I think ultimately that Piers lacks respect for people and I don’t like that behaviour.

Bool · 12/05/2020 07:42

And I never watch This Morning - it’s what I used to watch as a hungover student with Richard and Judy. It has gone downhill - more childish - since then even. So wouldn’t go there for any credible news info anyway. I am surprised it is considered an essential programme honestly.

Egghead68 · 12/05/2020 07:42

It's not hiding it just doesn't want to be on some crap TV shows being interviewed by people who don't know how to interview properly. I wouldn't either

They declined to appear on Newsnight as well. Do you think Emily Maitlis is someone who doesn’t know how to interview properly?

Bool · 12/05/2020 07:43

@egghead68 ah I didn’t know that. Yes that’s a real issue if so.

OceanOrchid · 12/05/2020 07:46

They also refuse to deal with channel 4 news and have done for ages. In fact, that started before the general election so the electorate voted in a government who refuse to deal with news outlets who challenge them. To then go around complaining because the government won’t deal with news outlets who challenge them seems a bit ridiculous tbh.

mummmy2017 · 12/05/2020 07:47

But they did say you could see family.
One at a time, two meters apart outside only.
Boris said that on TV.
So GMT are shouting a guy down to make it look good for TV.
But who is going to travel if there are no loos and no hotels, no staying with family.
Maybe we need to stick a bio loo in the boot of the car.

Disneylover4321 · 12/05/2020 07:52

@Egghead68 @Bool

That just goes to show that it is a real issue.

It's incredibly worrying - but not surprising - how they are avoiding scrutiny from media.

They would happily go on GMB, This Morning etc if they thought it would benefit them like they have in the past. Nothing to do with how fluffy or newsy the programmes are. They do an important job disseminating info to the public - not everyone watches the 9 o'clock news.

Disneylover4321 · 12/05/2020 08:02

@egghead68

Shocking! Anyone would think they have something to hide.

OP posts:
Disneylover4321 · 12/05/2020 08:04

@nanbread

It is worrying.

Yes, GMB and This Morning do an important job in conveying information to the public.

OP posts:
Bool · 12/05/2020 08:05

@Disneylover4321 well yes if they refuse to go on a show like Newsnight then yes that is an issue. Channel 4 news - pre election - wasn’t that related to the climate change debate where Michael Gove arrived for it at the last minute but they wouldn’t let him on and put a melting ice cube in the place of a Tory minister instead? Not great on their behalf honestly but yes another worrying development if the government is still sulking about that. Channel 4 is a credible news show.

Disneylover4321 · 12/05/2020 08:13

@bool

A melting ice cube!! Sorry, but that made me laugh.

But yes it is worrying if they are still sulking about that now.

Can you imagine Piers being understanding, the whole program is geared towards him shouting his guest down.

derxa · 12/05/2020 08:18

because interviews on GMB rarely, actually get any further information. Yes. I watch every day. It's an entertainment programme

Disneylover4321 · 12/05/2020 08:34

@mummmy2017

Yes it is to be fair.

Morgan was the only interviewer to ask the questions many of us want answering.
Airport passengers, ppe, nhs workers dying, care homes.....

Incompetent ministers unable to come up with basic facts on policies they are responsible for needs highlighting.... such as Helen Whatley who hadn't heard of Exercise Cygnus, despite being on a home affairs committee discussing its findings at the time, couldn't produce a single recommendation....

The tories boycotted BBC's Radio 4 's news outlets before and later the GE too.

Any party or Govt shouldn't be allowed to pick and choose who it does interviews with, these are mainstream outlets with millions of viewers.

Pumpkinpie1 · 12/05/2020 08:39

This government is not open transparent and will do anything to stay in power hence its herd immunity agenda.
The issue is much bigger than liking piers or GMB it’s whether you value freedom & integrity because this government has neither

Disneylover4321 · 12/05/2020 08:40

@jasjas1973

Very good, I couldn't have said that better myself tbh.

Yes Morgan does ask the questions that we all want answering and I agree that no party or Govt should be allowed to pick and choose who it does interviews with or sends statements to.

KuckFnows · 12/05/2020 08:45

Don't blame them

sunglasses123 · 12/05/2020 08:48

I used to watch him but he has now gone too far. He clearly likes Sturgeon and nods and smiles when interviewing her.

To me she is a little busybody who just wants ID2. Everything is geared towards this. He just talks over his guests and I saw one of his guests allow his ranting and then they ran out of time so they guest had very little to say!

cyclingmad · 12/05/2020 09:02

Which news programme or paper is truly impartial, with no agenda? Is there one? I doubt it. Which news has not sensationalised news during this situation? Which one has taken information government have put out and not caused confusion by misinterpreting it?

As others have said there are only so many ways to say you still cannot meet family members. We have had advice and masks are not mandatory but if you are in an enclosed space like certain public transport you should wear them. Hardly ambiguous it's pretty clear cut.

Which news just reported the government are making a headline statement on sunday when we know more and after that we will know more. Then moved onto other news instead of speculating what it will be. That speculation made of false information hasnf helped anyone has it? Why do allow media to do that.

Boris said details would be out the next day in parliament. All the media was just bash stupid headline after headline about lack of details. He isnt going to talk through a t0 page document in detail on tv who is gonna sit there for that.

No other country does either.

I used to love the news when I was younger, much more informative, less speculation and sensationalism, there were outlets you really respected and then there were just tabloids. Now there is very little difference.

I honestly avoid the news now and just tune into the government briefings as and when I want to know what is happening next.
