Government won't talk to GMB and This Morning!!

Disneylover4321 · 11/05/2020 20:20

I was watching GMB and This Morning today and they were talking about how the government press team wouldn't talk to either shows.
Surely this isn't acceptable??
The government can't just hide and not be interviewed?

The media are rude and aggressive to politicians then twist and misreport anything they say. I would normally not condone this avoidance but think the media have been a total disgrace over this pandemic time

You mean asking questions about PPE, testing, care homes....

Awful, isn't it to hold truth to power

TheFairyCaravan · 11/05/2020 22:46

They won't go on GMB because Piers Morgan held Helen Whatley to account when she was smirking and grinning when she was being asked about the deaths in care homes. He, also, asked her how many NHS and social care workers had died, she didn't have a clue and he took her to task over it.

Andrew Bridgen was on this morning, he spoke a load of crap, Piers took him up on it, they went to a break and he was gone when they came back.

In normal circumstances I can't stand Piers Morgan however I agree with him over Coronavirus. The Government have been absolutely shit and they need to be held to account, pussyfooting around them helps no one.

onedayinthefuture · 11/05/2020 22:49

I don't blame them, Good Morning Britain has had a huge part to play in the scaremongering of the British public. That's Piers and Dr Hilary. The other presenters are fine. I would have also argued that they weren't essential workers as Piers so often points out. We didn't need those shows, we should have just had news broadcasts and that's it.

imsooverthisdrama · 11/05/2020 22:56

I'm not surprised with Piers he just talks over them and they can't get a word in .
I'm not sure why GMB continue to have him because I'm sure less and less people don't want to be interviewed by him .

HeIenaDove · 11/05/2020 23:05

Really Not keen for any more selfies with Schofield then.

MummyPop00 · 11/05/2020 23:14

Ah, Piers Morgan. Mr. Hindsight.

starfro · 11/05/2020 23:20

Piers Morgan is a disgrace. Zero interest in the truth, only interested in pushing his own narrative. He has been like that with scientific experts that have been on his show, telling them that they're wrong and he's right.

rwalker · 11/05/2020 23:29

Good on them Piers SHOUTS over them won't let them answer the question , As soon as they start to answer he SHOUTS another question.

The health minster he bullied other week was shocking waste of an opportunity to get answer instead it was all about piers being a cock .He held a headline up and said what do you think of that. She tried to explain she couldn't see it as they asked here to set camera up so she could see herself and he carried on shouting she couldn't see what she was supposed to comment on.

cyclingmad · 12/05/2020 01:42

rwalker thats awful, I don't watch him at all because of the vile way he interviews people. There is a way to ask and probe people for more infomration and his way is just incredibly bad.

Thing is sensationalism is what attracts people - imagine what would the media have to write if last week they simply reported that the goverment would address nation on sunday with next steps and thats it - for the next few days they then just wrote a whole load of speculation. Surely they could of focused on other news that actually have facts and substance to report.

It is scary to see how many people just take what is put out by the media as gospel truth and don't realise the agendas being pushed, the lack of facts and sources that could just about be anyone but a person of authority who has the true information.

excitedmumtobe87 · 12/05/2020 01:46

They’re not talking to Newsnight either

Bool · 12/05/2020 01:59

Didn’t Boris go on This Morning recently? And I have seen government ministers on GMB. The care minister got roasted by Piers recently and Gove is often on there. But I had to switch The Morning off today. They were all frothing about the guidance we had been given and editing Boris’s speech to make it look unclear. They are there to help communicate and clarify not deliberately confuse and so I switched off.

Disneylover4321 · 12/05/2020 04:59

@Bool

Boris went on This Morning at the start of March.

@excitedmumtobe87

Have they said why?

OP posts:
Peggysgettingcrazy · 12/05/2020 05:05

I think the worst thing about GMB lately is that they aee actually giving out misinformation.

Piers was obsessed with 'essential' businesses only. Kept saying it and demanding companies who were open, explain themselves. They didnt need to.

Funny how he was happy to risk other people's jobs and put companies under, while explaining very slowly that he was allowed at work because journalists were there for us.

Its easy to say everyone else should shut when your job is secure.

It has been confirmed that once again the government is not putting anyone up for interview on GMB or This Morning today, but they are all over the BBC doing interviews this morning.

OP posts:
Peggysgettingcrazy · 12/05/2020 05:52

Why would they need to go on This Morning, anyway?

Disneylover4321 · 12/05/2020 06:00

@peggysgettingcrazy
Because This Morning asked them to come on so they can be interviewed to inform their viewers about a national health emergency.

OP posts:
Peggysgettingcrazy · 12/05/2020 06:03

But this This Morning isn't a news programme. They pride themselves on 'look how silly and childish we are....hahah laughing at inaginary fart noises'

You can have a programme based on how ridiculous the presenters can act, then demand that people turn up for serious interviews.

If ITV want to run their morning news and daytime TV, in the way they do, thats fine. Its up to them.

But they can't expect people to want to engage with them.

Sandybval · 12/05/2020 06:05

They do a daily briefing, I don't think talking to smug holly and Phil and petulant piers is really going to be of much benefit. Maybe it is time to get back to work if people are taking their political information from crappy daytime TV.

Disneylover4321 · 12/05/2020 06:14

@sandybval

I understand that they do a daily briefing but people have questions that are not answered at the daily briefing.

Peggysgettingcrazy · 12/05/2020 06:14

Oh just switched GMB on. Piers Morgan talking about how Chian have amaged this successfully and we should be learning from them Hmm

And talkio g over both Suzanna AND Dr Hilary, cause they don't immediately agree with him.

MarinaMarinara · 12/05/2020 06:30

But This Morning and GMB aren’t news programmes. They’re light “entertainment” magazine shows. There is no obligation to go on those, I’m surprised they’re still on air at moment tbh. I am also surprised anyone actively chooses to watch them. I thought they were the kind of rubbish filler thing you might catch part of while unwell and hunkered down under a duvet on the sofa.

Getting your information on a health emergency from TM or GMB is like getting career and investment advice from Take a Break. Or reading Cosmo instead of getting relationship counselling.

That is not to say that the government is dealing well with the media - they’re not. Scrutiny is good, difficult questions are good. I just don’t think anyone (politician or not) can be criticised for choosing not to spend time with Piers bloody Morgan.

Disneylover4321 · 12/05/2020 06:31

@chomalungma

Yes,Piers does ask credible questions and wants credible answers.
