Why can't he just answer a question straight?
And also if you have children did he just suggest you tell your employer and stay home? That is not going to go down well!

May as well just shove Dom Cummings in the middle podium - at least we might actually learn what the "Government" is thinking then rather than vague waffling.

OneJump · 11/05/2020 20:24

So embarrassing and really not very funny at all that the people of this country elected Johnson because they thought he was a laugh. Look where that's bloody got us. Deep in the shit. Well done everyone. And this is before he decides to no deal Brexit us. If you aren't worried of frightened now you really arent paying attention.

He's always busked it and got away with it. He's painfully exposed now and it shows just how over promoted he is.

BackInTime · 11/05/2020 20:25

And let's not forget he is intent on completing Brexit in the the midst of all this. After this shitshow do people really think they can really pull off such complex negotiations with the EU and do trade deals with other countries all around the world?

GabsAlot · 11/05/2020 20:26

he didnt answer anything un less it wa asked a few times and then patrick or chris answered it

Dadnotamum72 · 11/05/2020 20:26

Said this on another thread, Should of had Boris first and Theresa May now, she may of handled this ok with more attention to detail.

The80sweregreat · 11/05/2020 20:28

The problem I have with Sir Keir Starmer is his clinical approach. It works well as a barrister ( and he was the best) but the British public need soundbites, slogans, tub thumping etc. I'm not a Tory at all , but they always match some of the British mood better than labour have managed ( historically)
' Britain isn't working' ( 80s)
' get brexit done' ( 2019) etc. (I'm sure there are more. )
It's the reason they are good at elections and locking into something subliminal almost!
It's one reason I hate them for being so good at wining things!
This crisis may be a 'bridge too far ' even for them but people will still believe in them. For now it's all we have! In England anyway.

Cam77 · 11/05/2020 20:29

@JamieLeeCurtains
The funniest thing about Brexit is that it’s a nightmare for a good 80% of the Tories. Only a small hardcore, Mogg etc, actually ever wanted it. From Johnson down, most of them never dreamed the electorate would call their bluff. They now get to deliver on their impossible promises, in a shadow of a pandemic no less, and with Scotland and N.Ireland screaming bloody murder.

mummmy2017 · 11/05/2020 20:29

People on this thread would be reported to HR for being bullies.
But it's ok because your not running the country.
Your not the person who could kill 50,000 more if you get it wrong.
There are no real answers, this man has been at death's door, and I expect he is worried that which ever way is taken will cost life's.
Most of us know we have to keep our loved ones safe, and just wait. So what if Boris is unsure and waffling, the meat is in the reports, the poor bloke knows every sentence will be twisted. Oh look just like you bullies are doing.

Smithtylater · 11/05/2020 20:29

@dadnotamum72 Even David Cameron would have been able to get a sentence out straight!

CherryPavlova · 11/05/2020 20:29

The really sad thing is he does have the questions in advance and they are ver carefully screened.

tootyfruitypickle · 11/05/2020 20:31

@mummmy2017 there’s no meat at all in the report I read it this afternoon. All nonsense .

MarshaBradyo · 11/05/2020 20:31

80s I don’t disagree. I would like Starmer to get his own media person who is as good as Cons.

BackInTime · 11/05/2020 20:32

I was no fan of TM but she would have been 100% better as would many of her cabinet ousted by Boris to be replaced by the hardcore Brexiters. Boris had to practically be gagged as foreign secretary, constantly making gaffes and causing trouble. Anyone who ever worked with him knew he wasn't up to this.

tootyfruitypickle · 11/05/2020 20:32

He needs to hand back to Raab. At least he can communicate. This message is all Boris, it’s gone to pot since he came back.

Cam77 · 11/05/2020 20:33

“People on this thread would be reported to HR for being bullies.”
“The poor bloke know”

“Poor Boris”. 🤣

TinySleepThief · 11/05/2020 20:33

People on this thread would be reported to HR for being bullies.

Its not bullying to say he waffles to such an extent that there is lften no coherent point made by the time hes finished speaking.

He's supposed to be answering questions to ally the fears and anxieties of the nation but instead he just spouts utter nonsense and ignores the questions entirely.

MarshaBradyo · 11/05/2020 20:33

Mummy I do think it’s a tough gig but he’s going to have a harder time after tonight in the media when the purpose was to provide clarity.

I actually felt bad for him as he was speaking.

tootyfruitypickle · 11/05/2020 20:34

It’s not like he woke up and was PM. He’s been after this job his entire life. And he’s crap.

JinglingHellsBells · 11/05/2020 20:34

I think people are being a tad unfair.

Boris does have a kind of prevaricating/ discursive style, more like the style of a debating chamber, but it doesn't mean he is incompetent.

Sadly, I think his style is that of building an intellectual discussion, with a lot of build up to the final point.

Really, he needs to focus on giving a very simple answer to a question.

He is no buffoon, but he does go round the houses with his responses, partly I'd say because he sees the overall picture and tries to paint that, rather than give a concise answer.

But don't say he is not intelligent or doesn't understand the situation.

tootyfruitypickle · 11/05/2020 20:35

I felt more bad for Raab repeating a message this morning he’d clearly had no part in creating.
And I can’t stand the man

FliesandPies · 11/05/2020 20:36

The problem I have with Sir Keir Starmer is his clinical approach. It works well as a barrister ( and he was the best) but the British public need soundbites, slogans, tub thumping etc

I think the public may well have had enough of cheap slogans etc. A clinical, sane approach is exactly what we need at the moment.

The80sweregreat · 11/05/2020 20:37

I agree about the clinical approach but there's no getting away from a slogan!
The Tories have that area sown up!
I can't see the Labour Party finding one but you never know!

AZP3 · 11/05/2020 20:37

He must pinch himself every day that he only had Corbyn to beat.

BackInTime · 11/05/2020 20:38

@mummmy2017 I think we have a right to expect our Prime Minister to be across the details of such an important plan and to ask questions when he is not up to scrutiny. Other countries have leaders that seem to have managed this? I refuse to go easy on him or accept that this is akin to bullying when the ineptitude of his government is costing people's lives.

Roussette · 11/05/2020 20:40

Poor Boris my arse.

He bloody well has wanted this job all his life. It's all he wanted. Tough that it's not just shouting from the rooftops about Brexit, that's life..... wars, pandemics, tragedies, disasters. You have to be a Prime Minster for anything that life throws at you... not just Brexit.

I have no sympathy whatsoever and saying he's bullied? You're having a laugh.
He has the best scientists, analysts, health and clinical people at his disposal. Use them. Stop saying 'listening to the science' the whole time.
It's obviously Whitty didn't want the slogan 'stay alert' as he avoided answering the question about whether he agreed with it.
This is down to BoJo and that scruffbag Cummings.

No sympathy
