It could be fairly negligible pressure on services. I think day trippers add to pressure on services too. Home owners might help get the local economy going again. However it’s difficult and I’m not going to do it.

It would be the same amount of people too as it’s the same amount of houses. Doesn’t really matter who is in it. Most home owners would escape the city to their second home/ holiday let.

My agent has just asked me about June bookings and I’ve said to defer them if holiday makers wish. We have provisionally said we will go in early July but I suspect we won’t. After that, it would be September for us. If there’s not much open we wouldn’t stay a week in July or September.

Day trippers don’t put pressure on services. When I travel an hour to a particular beach I pack a picnic and go from a- b. Park in the car park and get out go to beach then return. I don’t waste the day shopping and if ill wouldn’t make the journey. If we became ill we’d go home to our own doctor. We go out for days a lot and never use any service.

I’m checking websites for all our favourite places, still all closed. Wonder if that will change tomorrow.

Me too... under current circumstances adding risk to someone else's local area with absolutely no benefit to that area isn't something I plan on doing.

A lot of places have no toilets even in normal times like woods etc. People wouldn’t climb Ben Nevis if a toilet was mandatory the whole day..

Cornwall here, all the National Trust car parks by the beaches and our favourite walks are closed and padlocked. Very sad to see. The village/pub carpark right by a fairly famous beach is also closed.

I'd worry about what would happen if you became ill in your second home.
My neighbours and I have an agreement to help each other out, make sure the kids get feed etc. I'm not sure we'd risk anything for the second home owners, apart from fixing the reverse gear on the new Audis that can't back up to pass.

The original regulations DID allow moving house by the way right from the start.

The new regulations also allow

"(l) to undertake any of the following activities in connection with the purchase, sale, letting or rental of a residential property—

(i) visiting estate or letting agents, developer sales offices or show homes; (ii) viewing residential properties to look for a property to buy or rent; (iii) preparing a residential property to move in;(iv) moving home; (v) visiting a residential property to undertake any activities required for the rental or sale of that property;”; "

I think most people would try and get home if they had any symptoms. I tend to go out with a packed lunch from my holiday home during the day. I just go back to my second home, not my main home. However I do rent it out as a little business and like most business assets, it needs attention from time to time. This quiet time would have been ideal.

I don't think my quote was very helpful on the second rather than moving home issue unless we think moving from one home to another that you own is moving home (which I suppose it is although it may not be a permanent move).

If we look at the intention of the regulations they are to stop spread of the virus so driving in a car and then being somewhere where no one else is was always going to be very safe but driving to an area without CV19 and being out and about all the time, in shops, spreading it is not going to be fair. Eg last Autumn I drove once a week for about 5 weeks to my sons' house for 30 minutes, parked outside, went in for some hours to do DIY stuff ready for tenants. I didn't see a single person or go to a single shop and then I drove home. There was no CV19 then but that was clearly not going to be infecting anyone unless I suppose I had broken down by the roadside. Whereas taking a daily walk down my own road (which I don't do) is much riskier even just for 30 mins as the world and his wife come up here now for their walk as a nice quiet peaceful private road with horses going by down it so I am not surprised it is so busy.

@BubblesBuddy I’m with you on that - I also have a holiday let. It would have been ideal time to get all those things on my to do list done! I don’t think I would have received a warm reception though!!

After the new info about Cummings I am even more tempted to go for four days over the half term. I have pretty much followed the rules, apart from driving for exercise, for 6 weeks, it's one rule for us and one for the MPs.

Apparently it's now about Instinct rather than rules and laws. If we went I see the risk as very minimal. We are from an area with 150 deaths max, the lowest infection and death rate in the country. We would take all food/drink etc with us. We should self isolate there and would visit the beach, 3 minute walk, and a coastal walk, 3 minute walk. We wouldn't be wondering around the village or the shops. We are very low risk anyway, no symptoms. Dd goes back to school next week anyway which will put us at higher risk so is best time before that happens. I imagine the locals might have their pitch forks out though judging by the comments on the Facebook page.

There's no RNLI lifeguards on the beaches, two visitors died yesterday, seperate incidents. Another young man is in IC, his brain has been starved of oxygen. How, as a local community do we make sense of this. We know the people that pulled them out, we saw it unfold. Someone else had already warned them.
How do we 'pitchfork waving' locals welcome you, when we cannot keep you safe or do you not need us, are we just extras, non-speaking roles, annoyingly in the backdrop to your holiday.

Oh dear, here we go with the insulting comments against Cornwall again.....

I live in a tourist town in Cornwall. If I see any second homes with occupants I will notify the police. I have already done this once and the occupants were fined and sent home. No pitchforks required. Most people I know have done / would do the same.

If I lived anywhere other than Cornwall I would do the same - are people forgetting this is a pandemic and rules are in place to protect us and our families.

There’s been multiple rescues on beaches this weekend in Cornwall, spring tides, rips and rough seas have made it extremely dangerous to go in the water, and the beaches are not life guarded. Not all rescue made the press and I have heard two accounts of children being pulled from the sea by surfers, whilst the parents were several metres away oblivious. Some people do not even know that the tide goes in and out and view the sea like going into a swimming pool. I don’t know if it was visitors to the area or locals who died, it doesn’t matter where they came from - it’s a tragic loss regardless, and the number could so easily have been higher. From beaches being near deserted last week, they have got very busy since the announcement people could drive to exercise. If we start adding tourists into the mix, before beaches are life guarded I dread to think of how many more incidents there will be.

Not in Wales or Scotland, where health is devolved and guidance is still essential travel only.

Don't break the rules just because someone else broke the rules. That's up there with the arguments my 9 and 6 year olds have "but SHE hit me first!"

The advice is to keep travel to a sensible limit, do not stay overnight, do not clog up local resources.

More importantly, STOP RUINING IT FOR THE REST OF US. We all want to go to the seaside, go on holiday, but the vast majority of us understand that we can't so we won't, we'll suck it up and be patient.
