So can we now go to second homes?

Exactly that really.

Not if it’s so for you have to stay over before you can go home, but if it is closer I think you could. My parents have a flat about 35 mins from their home, and it is an area they love to walk in, so I think they will be driving there to walk then driving home. If they need the loo they will pop to their flat!

No. Things remain the same unless stated otherwise, is my understanding.

If your second home is in Wales, definitely not. Our lockdown rules are different to England’s and our police force are allowed to stop you, fine you and prosecute.

If you're the legal owner of the home though, can they?

There is no where in the country where health services are being over run.

In fact almost the entire health service is way below normal capacity.

3 of 4 doctors I know are quieter than normal (surgeon, anaesthetist & GP).

The one that isn't is the psychiatrist.

I don't think the argument that services can't cope with extra capacity in rural areas really applies at the moment - it might at some point. But not now.

Thankfully the fines for covidiots have been increased. How the heck can someone consider driving to exercise as meaning "I can now go to my second home".
I think the mistake here is that Boris is treating us like intelligent grownups.

For the love of fuck - whether it's been permitted or not (it hasn't) why would you do something so utterly selfish & stupid.

Why don't you ask yourself if the NHS trust in that area could comfortably manage the extra ICU patients?

@1981m please don’t feel too bad about all the negative comments. You asked the question I was wondering!!

Wales Scotland may be ‘closed’ (whatever that means). But in reality the extra road users will be exponential and the police will not be able to enforce the non-essential travel. Go out. Be alert. jump start the economy. That’s the message I heard. It would have been too crass to keep mentioning the economy when people have lost loved ones. But that’s what it’s about.

Why would you ask?

@Sandybval I’ve double checked the welsh government website and according to them, they can.

So can we now go to second homes?

Cornwall had 15 ICU beds for the whole county. Treliske released a CV patient back to a care home in mid Cornwall by mistake resulting in multiple deaths. It often takes an ambulance over an hour to get to Treliske. If you're a second home owner, think carefully whether leaving the home counties is worth the risk.

@AlohaMolly it just says they don't class it as essential travel, not sure what they could do really. My neighbour travels over the bridge for work everyday, she has never been stopped or asked what her business is. Neighbours could report someone, but if they are registered to that address it would likely be arduous proving how often they go there. I do agree that people shouldn't, I wont ever be able to afford a holiday home hah, but it's a bit naive to think they can successfully police it really.

Oh there we go op. They just said on the news you can exercise but must return on the same day so no over night stays. Hope that clears it up for you.

Please stay out of wales 🤦🏻‍♀️ well done Boris you've created another mess where numpties have clearly heard a different rule for them to everyone else brilliant.

I wonder how long it will take for some arse wipe to be heading from England to Wales, Scotland thinking they are allowed too

Pre-supposes that second home owners are all home-counties based. I know two families from Edinburgh and one from Gloucester with second homes in the small Cornish village we go on holiday to.

Police in my county were stopping and fining anyone from another county. Does this mean they can't do that now.

Realistically I don’t think they can stop you now. The traffic will almost be back to normal, they can’t possibly be stopping cars to ask where people are off too if we are all back to work and can drive to beaches/sunbathe. The police did warn last week that they couldn’t be expected to police a ‘partial lockdown’ (I didn’t approve of the way they were policing the full lockdown but once the guidance was clarified Our local forces acted quite sensibly). The government have essentially put the onus on the public to ‘control the virus’.

People have been doing that all throughout the lock down. Its not that dont understand, its that they dont care. Their is very little Boris can do about that. Except increase the fines, which he has.

Why has being in a pandemic affected people's comprehension skills? Mumsnetters seem to be the worst at the moment.

Some people are just looking for a loophole to do whatever they want. Selfish behaviour has always been there.,

It does say at the end of the first paragraph that it’s committing an offence sandybval and I know up here in North Wales that the police have been stopping and fining ‘day trippers’ from England, so it’s not that they can’t enforce it. We don’t have a huge police force though, and obviously people will come through unnoticed.

Report
Aberforthsgoat · 10/05/2020 23:06

How does unlimited exercise involve staying the night somewhere? I despair of people sometimes. Always wanting to find a loophole, complaining it's not clear just so they can interpret it how they choose.
