Now that Boris has said people can drive for exercise and leisure, you know they'll flock to seaside's, lakes, peaks, etc.
Which means if they're carriers they'll be spreading the virus to petrol stations pumps, gates, railings etc.

I don't get the logic behind him saying that tbh.

Wtf was the point of all those people swarming on Snowdon a few weeks back when the cafe was closed? I wonder how many had forgotten to check and were counting on a hot pasty and cuppa at the top? not to mention, a loo... in normal times it's the hilltop most incongruously well suited to british daytripper needs.

Becca19962014 · 12/05/2020 21:32

errol they don't think.

People have been rescued for taking pics of the sunset and getting trapped.

They think it's just like climbing a hill.

Then there's pen-Y-fan in the Brecon Beacons. People park so dangerously to block the a-road. Every year. Yes there's a car park but it's tiny. There's nothing on the top of there (as far as I'm aware).

We've had people rescued walking along the bottom of cliffs, suddenly being cut off needing to climb up them, because the cliff path is closed, completely unaware of the tide. Yes really!

There's no limit to some peoples capability for stupid.

LolaSmiles · 12/05/2020 21:33

The first weekend of lockdown we had a man fall on snowdon and have to be rescued he was climbing in the dark in trainers with only his phone torch so he could take a picture of the sunrise..... people truly are idiots.
And yet you could bet your bottom dollar he'd share the mentality of some on here.
I can imagine the hypothetical thread saying:
guidance isn't the law... Nobody can stop me driving where I want for exercise... It's not for anyone to police where I go... Maybe it's essental for me to go for a walk for my mental health... No I couldn't walk in my local area because the roads are packed (reality- not packed, people can pass with some common sense)... It's much safer for me to go to this well known rural place than to stay local. Insert the 'reasons I should drive to rural places' from the dozens of threads here, why should people in villages think they own the countryside... I'll have you know that photograph would have been the shining light in my lockdown darkness... You will all be complaining when suicide happens because you want people never to breathe fresh air or leave their front door... I can't believe some of you are commenting on the increased risk to Mountain Rescue volunteers, if they didn't want to genuinely volunteer then maybe they shouldn't sign up in the first place.

Becca19962014

I have similar tales to your experiences...
I once encountered a man lying in a ditch in a bush that had been trying to climb a big hill in Wales... In crocs and Jean shorts.. he'd slipped and sprained his ankle. Had no food, no water and no phone. If we hadn't happened along, god knows what would have happened. Luckily we managed to get him out and back down to the car and too hospital within an hour.

As predicted, place is swarming with fucking tourists.

I don't know if I'm more angry or sad to be honest.

MonkeyToesOfDoom · 13/05/2020 13:39

Yep, similar stories coming in from around me too.

I knew it would happen so there's no shock to it. Second peak is what the government want and some people seem happy enough to aid it. The dead will be countless by Christmas.

Seeing pictures of idiots trying to park near beaches, stories of camper vans heading south, not really a surprise 😢.

I went out today, not far from the coast but roads were pretty quiet, popped into a garden centre on the way home and it wasn’t too busy.

I hope Borris is happy that loads of idiots are flocking to beaches and hills, it will be his fault when there’s a huge increase in cases, he should have told people to only travel a certain distance or to stay in their county.

LolaSmiles · 13/05/2020 14:46

There's a post doing the rounds on Facebook where people are planning totally legal mass gatherings in various places to prove to the government that the lockdown (brought in by law) is unlawful.

Apparently they're also protesting against forced vaccinations (for a vaccine that doesn't exist and nobody is forcing).

The plan is a party for stupid people to hang out and congratulate each other for being more intelligent than 90% of the population.

vanillandhoney · 13/05/2020 14:54

I'm near the Lakes and our local mountain rescues have put pleas out on social media asking people to stay away and not to climb the fells.

Mountain rescue can't do their jobs in full PPE - it's not exactly practical to be in all the kit climbing Scafell. They're also running on limited staff as some volunteers are obviously shielding, or working full-time in other essential jobs.

Every time they get called out, they're putting themselves at risk to save you. I wish people would just think. The fells aren't going anywhere, after all.

Becca19962014 · 13/05/2020 15:09

It's the same here - our mountains and coastal areas aren't going anywhere.

Most of our volunteers are in the emergency services and I think that's quite common given the work.

Ffs.

MonkeyToesOfDoom · 13/05/2020 15:26

It is clear the government want to push for a second peak isn't it?
I know I'm an ass hole, but I'm not a paranoid asshole am I?

Encouraging VE day celebrations, that's going to spread it.
Letting people travel where ever, that's going to spread it.
Opening schools, that's going to spread it.

Or.am.i being a paranoid asshole?

Yes you are.

You might be happy staying indoors for the rest of your life but the majority are not.

LolaSmiles · 13/05/2020 15:32

They are being advised by Dominic Cummings who has history of being sympathetic to eugenics. I can imagine some warped logic where the decision is made that if some elderly die it's sad but it reduces social care and health demand, same for others with underlying conditions.
In the meantime, pit workers against each other so they're too busy fighting each other to notice that the front line workers in various jobs aren't the ones who failed on a national strategic level. If you turn public opinion on the NHS then it might butter people up for privatising it by the back door.

I'm quite cynical though and think that unscrupulous politicians with vested interests have lots to gain by spinning things in their favour
(Some of the ERG did the same with Brexit, many Tory figures are linked to private healthcare providers, Lord Adonis has been jumping on vocal parents being annoyed at lack of zoom lessons and had a go at schools for not doing online teaching when he conveniently is linked to a company selling online teaching).

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 13/05/2020 15:37

Pretty sure very few are actually happy staying indoors Confused

Sadly is a good percentage of the good old majority who will forget all about social distancing once they start on their picnics and watch their adorable offspring playing in the grass and socialising with other kids.

TheSandman · 13/05/2020 15:48

The plan is a party for stupid people to hang out and congratulate each other for being more intelligent than 90% of the population.

And in a couple of weeks they'll be 'more intelligent' than 94% of the population. And the month after that 97%...

MonkeyToesOfDoom · 13/05/2020 15:50

You might be happy staying indoors for the rest of your life but the majority are not.

I go outdoors regularly, almost daily.
I walk for many hours along tracks seldom used as I don't live near a known place like Snowdon, beacons, York Moors etc.
In the current times, I don't drive to beauty spots and walk places I don't live for no other reason than someone in london said i can. It's irresponsible, stupid and selfish. Anyone living near a 'spot' should be very concerned they'll become a hotspot.

I don't think you are an arsehole but yes you are paranoid.
The government is trying to juggle risks. You might not agree with where they have tried to strike the balance but if you think they want people to die then you are being paranoid.

MonkeyToesOfDoom · 13/05/2020 15:54

if you think they want people to die then you are being paranoid

Possibly. But let's not forget the whole death toll of austerity was brought to us by the same party who were told time and again they were causing death and suicide.

OP posts:
LolaSmiles · 13/05/2020 15:59

I don't think they want people to die, but I wouldn't be surprised if they consider 'a few deaths' an acceptable price to pay to get the outcomes their lobby mates want.

CrystalTipped · 13/05/2020 16:23

Public bins are overflowing at the seafront in my town because of reduced services, the volunteer litter pickers are stuck at home, and apparently there was a bin fire due to someone disposing of a portable bbq which was still alight...

If people are determined to assert their rights and have a day at the seaside, bringing their own provisions and then taking them back home afterwards would be helpful.

vanillandhoney · 13/05/2020 16:37

You might be happy staying indoors for the rest of your life but the majority are not.

Nothing to do with being happy to stay indoors. I've been out with the dog everyday since lockdown began. What I haven't done is flocked to all the local beauty spots or driven into the National Park as it's totally unnecessary. I can exercise, sunbathe and have a picnic much closer to home.

Every other country has limited how far you can go for exercise, but England just seems to be a massive free-for-all Hmm

Notmyrealname855 · 13/05/2020 20:35

Hi from the Lakes :) we have a footpath through the house (literally the side and running right in front of the house)...

To be honest wasn’t expecting that many. We have 12 groups... which is high even for summer as we’re not on a famous route (that’s the groups I noticed while trying to garden badly :) )

Of those five asked me to open the gates on the path for them, as they’d seen other groups go through. Truly, truly bizarre. We’re not your concierge service... each was roughly the same request of “can you just open this gate for us?” (no, open it yourself) and one “open your gate for me!” and he repeated that I must as it’s our property and we’re responsible for the gates Hmm

The problem is... people taking silly risks are idiots and knobs, and they’re the worst to deal with. There were LOADS on the fell... and all being lovely delightful citizens keeping their distance and leaving no rubbish. Well done you beauts Star

To the walkers using lanes running by peoples houses (and we’ve had C19), asking we open and close gates behind them... trot right on Biscuit

Notmyrealname855 · 13/05/2020 20:38

We had twelve groups... need to get off the wine...

MonkeyToesOfDoom · 13/05/2020 20:46

I could not deal with that, you must be a very patient person, I'd be turning hoses on em. 😂

We’re nearby too. I really do think there is a case atm for saying, if you choose to go hill walking in the Lakes just now, please do so accepting that you will not be rescued if you find yourself in difficulty.

Walkers and climbers may be happy to take the risk but they should not be placing the current additional health risk on others.
