Not that it matters to me personally, being in Scotland but that was just the biggest load of waffley waffle.
Not even a mention of meeting other households.

People don’t understand because they wanted him to say something else and they are still try to work out if he said it.

nostaples · 10/05/2020 23:18

I do think it is ridiculous to expect 4 year olds to stay away from each other. As a teacher I went into school the other day and had to touch about 20 door handles just going in and out of where I needed to be and at least three computer keyboards. If anyone has it in school, I do think it will transfer v quickly. But I still think with all the measures in place, a shopping trip to Tesco is one of the most risky things people can do so why not be in work?

Bathroom12345 · 10/05/2020 23:18

BigChoc. I agree! It’s as though it’s all the governments fault that they cannot see grandparents! You can of course by just doing it anyway just like some others have done.

However you run the risk of transmitting the virus and that won’t be anything to do with the government!!

Greengrassgravy · 10/05/2020 23:19

And if he really wanted the whole of the U.K. on board - he should actually learn to consult rather than dominate! He’s either an idiot or a manipulative shit - not impressed by either!

Pomegranatepompom · 10/05/2020 23:20

I think some people would stay @ home (paid) for as long as they possibly could. Such a difficult balance and yes he’ll be criticised for anything he does.

People went to say it was unclear to suite their own agenda.

Sadie789 · 10/05/2020 23:24

@Greengrassgravy

Consult rather than dominate? He was usurped by each of the devolved FMs one by one in advance of his nationwide address. It is these ministers with their own agendas who are muddying the waters.

There should be one clear instruction from one central government leader. To me that person is Boris. Regardless of your politics in a time like this, a unique crisis situation, there should be one voice to listen to and those around him should act in unison.

They are by their own admission listening to the same scientific information and looking at the same data.

They should be singing from the same hymn sheet too.

lyralalala · 10/05/2020 23:26

They are by their own admission listening to the same scientific information and looking at the same data.

If 4 people/governments/assemblies are listening to the same scientific information and looking at the same data and 1 of them decides to do something entirely different from 3 of them why are you assuming it's the 3 that are wrong and game playing?

Bathroom12345 · 10/05/2020 23:26

Most of us are going to supermarkets and people are touching things you might have brought. I was behind a couple who passed a loaf to each other and the man peered at it closely because he didn’t have his glasses and then put it back......

I think we are all going to have to make risk assessments on our jobs. Maybe we will have a career change, maybe we will decide we are just too worried and give up our jobs but there will not be an option to carry on being paid whilst you decide what you want to do or when a vaccine is found that you might or might not choose to have due to another risk assessment we will all need to do.

I might actually choose not to have it, rushed through and all that.

Coffeeandbeans · 10/05/2020 23:27

The government is not expecting 4 year olds to social distance. They will socialise as normal. A little like essential nurseries that are currently open. No one can social distance if they have to change nappies etc etc

Flaxmeadow · 10/05/2020 23:28

You can’t mix households..yet it’s ok for my son to go into about a 12 households as a day as a carer ..not even the same households
Where’s the logic in that

The logic is that we need to continue working (as long as its safe, or as safe as possible, to do so), in order to maintain, and pay for, our public services. Our individual households are not as important as those public services are right now.

There is a pandemic. It's an extremely infectious new virus and its killing a lot of people. We need to flatten the curve and protect our health service, so that more people have a chance of surviving the bastard

Frazzled2207 · 10/05/2020 23:29

Sky news is saying that a gov official has said that two households can mix outside if following the 2m rule.

Devlesko · 10/05/2020 23:40

I have a very small IQ, I can't help it, and I'm told it comes from centuries of endogamy (nice)

But ffs, even I understood it. Can't stand the bloke, but if you listened you'd have got it.

He probably didn't go into too much detail because as we can see people aren't bloody listening.

RichardMarxisinnocent · 10/05/2020 23:41

Frazzled Two households? Or 2 people from different households?

MyOtherProfile · 10/05/2020 23:43

Kind of hard for Johnson to say people can't see members of family. Didn't his dad pop round to meet the new baby?

Opendraw · 10/05/2020 23:47

I don’t think Boris was usurped they had their daily briefings as they always do each of the governments chose a time . Boris decided to their later on in the evening.

I can only speak for Scotland we are a couple of weeks behind you in the curve the rule is go at the pace of the slowest but no Bojo has just bumbled ahead waffling as he goes.

I agree on principle one message for the whole of the UK from one person but the reality is very different and after the speech tonight with his little finger jabbing my vote Would not be that waffley Womble to be the messenger no way

OntheWaves40 · 10/05/2020 23:47

What @Aesopfable said.

Whatever he said would have been wrong. People complaining he didn’t lockdown quick enough, are same people asking if they can see their family in a park. No you can’t. It was crystal clear.

Derbygerbil · 10/05/2020 23:52

You can’t mix households..yet it’s ok for my son to go into about a 12 households as a day as a carer ..not even the same households

You seem to be saying that because some people are at greater risk due to their job, we should all be at greater risk! Strange logic...

Derbygerbil · 10/05/2020 23:53

Didn't his dad pop round to meet the new baby?

I’m sure this would have made the Daily Mail if he had....

Alymcnabs · 10/05/2020 23:59

I am in Wales OP. I have no idea what is happening now either.

Wouldn’t it be useful if we had a Welsh Government who could relay the guidelines, effectively.

Drakeford isn’t meant for his job. He will be out on his arse very soon. Wales hate him!

Derbygerbil · 10/05/2020 23:59

Sky news is saying that a gov official has said that two households can mix outside if following the 2m rule.

Sky are reporting the obvious then... If you are allowed to sunbathe in a park and go to the beach, then how could you be forbidden from socialising with friends who are at the same place while you kept social distance?

lyralalala · 10/05/2020 23:59

@OntheWaves40 The problem is this...

So people getting their news from different places are getting different information. That’s why people are confused because BBC, Sky and others are reporting on what they were told

Well that was clear as mud, so is meeting family allowed now or what??
Well that was clear as mud, so is meeting family allowed now or what??
Easilyanxious · 11/05/2020 00:00

The not seeing family. etc was quite clear as he still maintained members of your own household for exercise
The driving for exercise not too clear as in how far ? Can I now drive to the beach for a walk ? Hoping those things will be clarified more tomorrow
Work o think more intended as lots of places shut down that didn't need to and many can still work from home still but painters, builders etc can't and I have wondered why gardeners stopped as we were due to have ours done and realistically he can come in the back and have no contact with us .
Trouble is some companies may see this as a green light to go back even if not needed and maybe won't have all the social distancing in place That they should .
Hoping for more clarity tomorrow
But to be honest our on exercise today there were plenty out not from the same family and some people not observing social distancing so people seem to be doing there own thing anyway

Masks4children · 11/05/2020 00:00

Seems mad, you go to park and so can everyone else but you have to keep 2m apart.
So how is that any different to going to the same park and everyone you know goes there at the same time and you keep 2m apart.

Either it’s social distancing and stay at home brief spells out or it’s business as usual, which nobody seems to want and rightly so.

Have you seen how many people cant grasp ..
A) how long 2 meters is
and
B) even if they do, and you are in the way of something they want, walk within 1m of you to get it.
C) washing hands, you are telling me, overnight all men now wash their hands after having a pee..

Recipe for disaster if you ask me, espoused by someone who should know better but never has.

Easilyanxious · 11/05/2020 00:03

Thinking about it the exercise bit is from weds so guessing we will have more details tomorrow , I would guess you won't be able to travel far as everyone will flock to a beach in a nice day and say they are going for a walk for exercise or a swim .

OceanOrchid · 11/05/2020 00:03

people asking if they can see their family in a park. No you can’t. It was crystal clear.

It really wasn’t. He said nothing about it. I’d agree that means “nothing has changed” except that all major news outlets have been briefed that 2 people can meet outside even if they are from different households, as long as they maintain the 2m rule. You cannot claim Johnson is being crystal clear by neglecting to mention something and then leaking it to the press.

The whole damn thing should have been properly announced in parliament.
