Not that it matters to me personally, being in Scotland but that was just the biggest load of waffley waffle.
Not even a mention of meeting other households.

He will go through more details tomorrow. And there is also 50 page document to wade through.

This was just a summary but households still can’t mix

totiredtocare · 10/05/2020 19:39

The issue being he specifically said you can sit in the park as long as you like... so people will naturally use a park as a meeting place where there will be groups sitting 2 meters away from each other... yet they can't do this in a garden? And now he has said that you can sit in a park as long as you like, police will have no power to move people on. Boris is a feckin' idiot.

Fairenuff · 10/05/2020 19:39

Be alert - Britain needs lerts!

Bored of this already. How many more times do we have to see it. It's not even funny.

Changeyname40 · 10/05/2020 19:39

It was nothing I was not expecting. Glad to see primary schools and gcse students mentioned.

Selfsettling3 · 10/05/2020 19:39

17 mins of waffles and 3 mins of info. Unfortunately the baby was making noise through the info. Did Boris really say year 6 will be going back before year 10? We live in a 3 tier system so god knows how that effects things.

Flaxmeadow · 10/05/2020 19:39

Well, if you can sit in a park 2 meters away from strangers, I don’t see why you can’t do exactly the same with a friend/family member.

The rules, no change, are households mixing, in other words going inside someone else's house

Would think going to the park is OK, but with distancing

Twilbury · 10/05/2020 19:40

If my friends or extended family are in a park and sit and have a picnic and I find myself 2 metres away from them having my own picnic then why is that a problem ?

TalkingIntoTheEther · 10/05/2020 19:40

More immediately, people in England will be allowed to sit in the parks within their household groups, to drive to beauty spots for walks and take unlimited amounts of outdoor exercise. People will be able to meet and sit down with a single other person outdoors as long as they stay two metres apart. Angling, swimming in lakes or rivers, tennis and golf will all be allowed if people are sticking to their household groups.

From teh guardian press release www.theguardian.com/politics/2020/may/10/boris-johnson-coronavirus-lockdown-shops-schools-june-reopening

LyndaSnellsSniff · 10/05/2020 19:41

Where has the reopening of garden centres talk come from? Did Boris mention that?

totiredtocare · 10/05/2020 19:41

@Flaxmeadow being in a garden isn't the same as going into a house

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 10/05/2020 19:41

Did Boris really say year 6 will be going back before year 10?

Well, he didn't mention secondary schools at all.

Lumene · 10/05/2020 19:42

can do things with members of your own household - PM said that specifically

He didn’t though, he said you can play sport with ‘members of your family’.

Clear as mud.

OldQueen1969 · 10/05/2020 19:42

Essentially we have to sacrifice contact with our family in favour of contact with colleagues while working to save the economy. How does this reduce the risk of contagion exactly? Or will all people going back to work going to be rigorously tested beforehand?

anyoldname76 · 10/05/2020 19:43

If a load of people can work on a construction site then yes I'm going to see my daughter and parents that I haven't seen for weeks. It's probably safer seeing my parents that have been adhering to the guidelines than sitting next to my work colleague that had been flouting the rules all these weeks

Flaxmeadow · 10/05/2020 19:43

So I can drive to Cornwall for a walk on the beach then, yes?

That's still non essential travel I think

Exercise is walking, running or cycling but its unlimited now

"Travel" is for work work, manufacturing etc, but try to avoid public transport

Lumene · 10/05/2020 19:43

Secondary school kids without exams next year not going back anytime soon according to Sam Coates on Twitter.

Aiming for all primary before summer.

No clue on nurseries.

tenterden · 10/05/2020 19:44

I wouldn't get too excited about schools going back in June.....There isn't enough PPE for hospitals and care homes. Where are all the masks going to come from for schools?

If you have a shit boss who tells you to cycle 35 miles to work (and you haven't ridden a bike since you were 10) what do you do?

Absolutely ridiculous shower of shit.

FormerlyFrikadela01 · 10/05/2020 19:44

He wasn’t clear about it at all. He mention no household mixing ago nine minutes into his waffle. Why thank us profusely for staying at home but not mention that we must continue to be separated for our loved ones for even longer? Like someone said, zero emotional intelligence.

Agreed. To be Frank I dont give a shit about more exercise time or timelines for schools and shops opening. I just want to know when I can see my family again. Not seeing them is what's making this incredibly hard.

MaddieElla · 10/05/2020 19:44

"Well, he didn't mention secondary schools at all"

Yes he did. He said kids who had important exams next year, so years 10 and 12.

MaddieElla · 10/05/2020 19:45

"He didn’t though, he said you can play sport with members of your family"

I thought he said "household"?

changeofname890 · 10/05/2020 19:46

But if you go for a picnic to a park with your household and other households are there doing the same, what's to stop you arranging for family or friends to also go for a picnic at the same park at the same time too? 🤷🏻‍♀️

Shopkinsdoll · 10/05/2020 19:46

When will retail go back? I work with a large shoe company. Just curious

PianoTuner567 · 10/05/2020 19:46

I wonder if some of the vagueness is deliberate. They don’t want anything to happen overnight, it has to be gradual. So the rules are a bit vague, people will interpret them differently, some people will mix more than others and it will be gradual...rather than us all en mass meeting up with our families and friends tomorrow.

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 10/05/2020 19:46

Yes he did. He said kids who had important exams next year, so years 10 and 12.

I didn't hear him mention secondary schools at all. Only heard him say some primary school children back on June 1st.

Inkpaperstars · 10/05/2020 19:47

It is pretty clear because if there was a major change to the guidance like saying you can meet family from other households, even Boris wouldn't have forgotten to mention it.

I wish he had spelt it out. Always a good idea to do that, but obviously that change would be highlighted if it was being made.
