Not that it matters to me personally, being in Scotland but that was just the biggest load of waffley waffle.
Not even a mention of meeting other households.

does this new set of rules mean that people are now able to leave the area in which they usually live and travel to their country home? ie., their usual home in London to spend time in their other home in the cotswolds?

Apparently you can drive anywhere in England

You’re not allowed holidays so be interesting to see what they say about second homes

lyralalala · 10/05/2020 22:16

This thread demonstrates why it's absolutely ridiculous that the guidance document wasn't available as soon as he'd finished speaking.

People are getting different information depending on what media they read

This is guaranteed to be another "one hour exercise" issue with loads of things because Boris told us one thing (no mixing households and higher fines if you do) and the press were told another (you can meet one person)

BeijingBikini · 10/05/2020 22:18

Construction workers were never meant to have stopped though?

AveEldon · 10/05/2020 22:21

The new rules are
"We can all help control the virus if we all stay alert. This means you must:
Stay at home as much as possible
Work from home if you can
Limit contact with other people
Keep your distance if you go out (2 metres apart where possible)
Wash your hands regularly
Self-isolate if you or anyone in your household has symptoms. "

Givenupno · 10/05/2020 22:22
  • Apparently you can drive anywhere in England

You are not allowed to sleep
AwY from your primary residence )unless you are a child under 18 with two separated parents) unless anyone has seen anything to say different.

So no second homes, no camping, no motor homes (overnight, a daytime trip is fine)

Jammydodger6 · 10/05/2020 22:22

The difference between seeing sitting 2m apart in your garden vs a park, is that they are probably likely to pop in and use your toilet. You may offer them drinks. Way more opportunity to spread covid in my opinion.

Borris know people will bend rules so will probably not specifically say you can meet family/friends in a park as long as you keep 2m distance. People will always break rules so he will try and not give too much flexibility at this point.

LemonTT · 10/05/2020 22:41

Reading this it seems that some people only want to know how the rules can be adapted so they can do what they want or don’t want to do.

Sadie789 · 10/05/2020 22:47

The same people saying “So I can see my work colleagues but not my granny” would be saying “Boris is going to kill us all!” if he’d said families and friends could start mixing again.

People just want to gripe and moan but no matter what he said it would never please everyone.

Also this is not all Boris. The plan will have been concocted by multiple groups of people working on different aspects of it. So aiming your arrows at him is a waste of your vitriol. He’s merely the the mouthpiece.

NotEverythingIsBlackandWhite · 10/05/2020 22:55

"Not even a mention of meeting other households."
He stated that now is not the time to end lockdown which means that you stlll cannot mix with others outside your household.

He was very clear. It is you who are hard of understanding.

daisymay133 · 10/05/2020 23:00

Honestly we are not kids I don’t think he needs to spell out every situation

2m that’s it

So in park don’t be more than 2m from anyone -family or not -what difference does it make?

Be an adult !

He doesn’t need to spell out every eventuality -
common sense surely?!

Just arrange y meet who you want but 2m apart

NotEverythingIsBlackandWhite · 10/05/2020 23:03

@FAQs
"RhymingRabbit3 I agree I’m not sure how that’s not clear?"
I agree too. So there are at least 3 of us who made use of our education system.

Givenupno · 10/05/2020 23:04

Just arrange y meet who you want but 2m apart

Pretty sure this won’t be the case when the document comes out.

Might be wrong, but he seemed pretty clear on people from your household, so arranging fo meet friends and family in the lark is likely still a no go.

daisymay133 · 10/05/2020 23:06

It may be s no but most people won’t agree that it’s ok to meet all their colleagues at 2m and not their family

It’s ridiculous

BigChocFrenzy · 10/05/2020 23:06

People can exercise outside as often and as long as they want
They can sit on a bench in the sun
They can swim in the sea or a lake
They can play sport with their own household outside

All providing they keep 2m from everyone outside their household

BigChocFrenzy · 10/05/2020 23:07

The 50 pages explaining what he meant should have been released online right after his speech

Bathroom12345 · 10/05/2020 23:08

I think some people half listen and then have to ask lots of questions (because they weren’t listening!). There will be a 50 page documents and even then some people won’t be bothered to read it all......

I guess the most upsetting thing is that you won’t be able to mix households. Understandable really, all that hugging and being in an enclosed place is what gives the much higher risk. You might have to go back to work before you hug your elderly parents and that is a real bummer but hardly the governments fault.

Coffeeandbeans · 10/05/2020 23:09

Trip to the beach then this week.

Opendraw · 10/05/2020 23:09

waffle as expected. He made a big deal of being the UK PM therefore some people in the devolved areas will think the easing is for everyone . NS was on straight after saying Scotland still says stay at home.

He has basically confused everybody. For example sports with family but where ? Can tennis and golf open who know ....

Don’t
Get
Me started on the aptly named Matt Hancock sigh

lyralalala · 10/05/2020 23:09

They are absolutely going to have to clarify the difference between the briefing Boris gave us - no mixing with other households

And the briefing the journalists were give - one on one meet ups allowed as long as social distancing is observed

Flaxmeadow · 10/05/2020 23:10

It's not clear and it WILL cost lives.

You do realise there is no cure for this virus? Yes it WILL cost lives, it has always been known it will cost a lot of lives and, unfortunately, it isn't over yet.

The whole point of the lockdowns is to stop health services being overwhelmed all at once. A slow trickle instead of a quick flood. So that more people can receive medical attention and more people be helped to survive it. As Boris said, without lockdown, half a million people might have died. With lockdown, so far, 30,000 have died.

There will be rolling lockdowns. Strict lockdown, people die but health services cope, then a lifting of some restrictions, more people die but health services cope, then strict lockdown again and repeat and so on. There is no end in sight yet. Just strict lockdown and light lockdown, alternated for many months

This strategy is led by science. It is the same strategy all governments, more or less, are using. It isn't about politics, it's about science. The best science can do without a cure. Its brutal but it's all we have. Not sure why people don't understand this?

Dowser · 10/05/2020 23:12

You can’t mix households..yet it’s ok for my son to go into about a 12 households as a day as a carer ..not even the same households
Where’s the logic in that
That really makes sense..yet he can’t see his mum from a safe distance
Bunkum

BigChocFrenzy · 10/05/2020 23:12

"The same people saying “So I can see my work colleagues but not my granny” would be saying “Boris is going to kill us all!” if he’d said families and friends could start mixing again."

No, he's getting fierce criticism from 2 main groups:

Those who want lockdown to stay for a lot longer and be stricter
vs
Those who always opposed lockdown and want it to end immediately

They totally disagree with each other even more than with him ! 😂

mrsbyers · 10/05/2020 23:13

I find it absolutely astonishing that people have not understood the broadcast - it was very clear what the changes are (minimal)
