Are people really asking what it means...

Lots of posts on here asking what "stay alert" means. Surely these people are not really that thick to ask what it meanHmmHmm

Utterlydespairing · 10/05/2020 17:48

My point is that not all posters are genuine. Some have a manipulative message

Yes and some of these posters slamming the new slogan are most likely Labour bots.

TruffleShuffles · 10/05/2020 17:49

Wow @toolatetooearly if Boris doesn’t tonight walk out to some reworked version of Basement Jaxx I’m going to be mightily disappointed.

Dontknowhowtohelp1 · 10/05/2020 17:51

I agree @TheFairyCaravan.

Paddingtonthebear · 10/05/2020 17:52

Ok so if it’s so clear, does it mean still keep 2m from everyone except those who you live with? Or just “use your common sense, stay alert”?. Can you start seeing friends and family that don’t live with you? Can you start going in to other homes? Can you go and play a team sport or go in to a swimming pool with other people or have your hair cut?

It’s not that clear is it?

ineedaholidaynow · 10/05/2020 17:55

@Paddingtonthebear we haven't been given the details yet. This is not the roadmap. Just over one hour to go. I am sure there will be more questions then too, but I bet the Government didn't believe so many questions would be asked about the bloody slogan!

Inkpaperstars · 10/05/2020 17:55

I think it is an odd choice of word. I am not sure exactly what they mean by it. I suspect it has been chosen in part because it is ambiguous.

Whatsuppp · 10/05/2020 17:56

@Paddingtonthebear
I'm sure Boris will be clear tonight about seeing family, etc.

OP posts:
ineedaholidaynow · 10/05/2020 17:56

You wouldn't think stay home would be ambiguous but many people made it to be

Paddingtonthebear · 10/05/2020 17:57

Exactly, no announcement yet, nothing has changed. So for those who are banging on about how obvious it is what the “stay alert” slogan means, and how thick anyone is for not knowing, you don't know either yet!

PJ6M · 10/05/2020 18:00

Christ on a fucking bike...

Why does every tiny thing in this fucking country have to become a polarised, us vs them argument?

Can we perhaps wait until the press conference to see what is said in full before squabbling like a bunch of bratty entitled wankers who've list their dummy?

We're a sad bunch in this country, I'm fucking sick of it.

NoNamesNoPackDrillHere · 10/05/2020 18:01

SmileEachDay. I’m being twatty because you have said I am.
I bow to your superior wisdom. But will still wait to see what measures are laid out tonight.
Obviously with your consent though of course.

What ARE you on about. Your comment about CBBC was blatantly twatty! At least own it 😂

Whatsuppp · 10/05/2020 18:05

@Paddingtonthebear use your common sense then and wait for the speech the instead of asking what it means and can you visit parents HmmHmm

OP posts:
Inkpaperstars · 10/05/2020 18:05

As others have said, watch tv at 7.
If still confused, they can go to the Online CBBC Newsround tab where all is explained in language easy to understand for the little dear

Most intelligent people will always see a subtext and can always argue multiple interpretations. If you are finding the messaging definitive and one dimensional then good, nice for you not to feel any 'confusion'.

ineedaholidaynow · 10/05/2020 18:05

Maybe I am reading it wrong @Paddingtonthebear but many people seem to think this it is, this is what we are getting, they are saying I need more details, when we are going to get more details. Why can't they be patient and wait. Then question the details, not the slogan!

When I watch the briefings do I just zone out and look at the slogan and not listen to anything that is being said. Because I can see the slogan so I know what it means exactly. Stay home, is a clear phrase, but it still meant you could go out shopping, go out to do exercise and if necessary go to work, so not exactly clear.

Whattodowhattodooo · 10/05/2020 18:08

Herd immunity by stealth.

Greysparkles · 10/05/2020 18:09

I'm sure Boris will be clear tonight about seeing family, etc

I think this is very optimistic going on the track record so far through this shitshow.

Hopefully I'm wrong

cathyandclare · 10/05/2020 18:10

I bet they wanted to use 'Be Vigilant' but focus groups told them that too many people wouldn't understand!

DamnYankee · 10/05/2020 18:14

I interpret it as stay alert to the risks of infecting ourselves or others by our actions. Stay Alert to the fact that we're still living with this virus.
^That's it in a nutshell.

In a US state we now have "safer-at-home" restriction guidelines in place, among those:

  1. No gatherings of more than 10 people
  2. Be able to observe the 6 ft. guidelines; if not, mask up
  3. Wash hands often

A friend is having a small get together for a group of friends. Here is how she is structuring it, using the guidelines:

  1. 8 women - all living within walking distance
  2. BYO camping chair or blanket to sit in her backyard where we can sit more than 6 ft. apart.
  3. BYOB, no food or drink served or shared.
  4. 1 hour, from 5-6
  5. Hand sanitizer at the ready

Guests will decide for themselves whether or not to
A). attend,
B). wear masks,
C). use their own restrooms before, after and during,
D). how often to sanitize their hands and personal belongings.

Pretty common sense if you ask me...

JamieLeeCurtains · 10/05/2020 18:15

I'm sure Boris will explain more tonight at 7pm

I'm not, @Whatsuppp

He's an inarticulate, lazy, back-stabbing, responsibility-dodging, over-privileged twat. You doff your cap if you want to; mine's not for doffing.

ineedaholidaynow · 10/05/2020 18:19

I'm assuming there will be a press release afterwards which may be clearer, bearing in mind it will have been worked on by more people than Boris.

Forgone90 · 10/05/2020 18:20

Stay alert.. If someone is coughing near you.. Move away... If you see people causing a risk to society then report it... Keep up to date with the latest guidelines and advice... Basically don't be a twat. It's really not that hard to understand.

Why people seem to need the government to spoon feed us all until this is over is beyond me!

Inkpaperstars · 10/05/2020 18:24

I would not get too excited about any statement from Boris. So far the only moment of interest or entertainment has been when he seemed at least to completely misunderstand the science behind the timing of lockdown/peak. But that was a rare highlight and we didn't even get the close up Chris Whitty's face that could have made it more entertaining.

Whattodowhattodooo · 10/05/2020 18:24

Why people seem to need the government to spoon feed us all until this is over is beyond me!

Because unfortunately there are a number of people in this country who need it spoon fed for them so they don't fuck it up for the sensible majority!

MrSheenandMe · 10/05/2020 18:43

cathyandclare - that's exactly what I thought!! (Visions of groups of Covid Vigilantes roaming the streets with megaphones, pepper spray and Big Sticks to make sure no-one was breaking the rules!) Grin
