So basically the government are removing themselves?

So Boris has just tweeted what I presume is going to be announced later. To me it is the government removing the responsibility from themselves so that they can blame to public when a second wave occurs. All very vague and unhelpful!

So basically the government are removing themselves?

The point is we can’t all catch it at the same time or we will overwhelm the NHS

But will we? We’re not all going to be seriously or even particularly ill. And the NHS has masses of capacity right now.

thunderthighsohwoe · 10/05/2020 18:58

The part about maintaining 2m distance ‘where possible’ is probably to allow schools to take all children back sooner rather than later.

Lynda07 · 10/05/2020 18:58

'minutes' not 'minuts'

Seasidetrains · 10/05/2020 19:00

amazing how many people think this is a personal issue. it isn't. each time you go out you are putting other more vulnerable people at risk. there's no such thing as 'using your common sense' or 'decidng for yourself', particularly as you might be infectious and asymptomatic yet perfectly capable of spreading cv.

also can't believe how many people are falling for the govt's horseshit. remember that back when boris was a journo he wrote two articles about brexit, one for and one against, and left it until the last minute to decide which to publish based on how public opinion was trending? that's pretty much the basis on which his government is making policy.

Whenwillthisbeover · 10/05/2020 19:00

@MIKKI2019 ? Eh? Don’t get you, just because they’ve had it doesn't mean they aren’t spreading it, they are, they don't care, nor will their family or friends, but i wont catch it because i wont be mixing with them.

GabsAlot · 10/05/2020 19:08

hes not saying much is he-work maybe but dont use public transport

GabsAlot · 10/05/2020 19:10

schools maybe from june primary

ragged · 10/05/2020 19:11

He just said DRIVE don't use public transport.

Public transport is extremely empty where I am. I don't like all the environmental pollution from the huge empty buses passing back and forth every day. Extremely pointless.

Abreadsandwich · 10/05/2020 19:15

He didnt mention anything about when we can potentially meet those from outside your household?

princesstwinkle · 10/05/2020 19:16

I can't believe he expects people to go to work tomorrow but not see their families!

Allowing people the excuse that they are driving to get exercise will make the police's job impossible.

MarginalGain · 10/05/2020 19:18

He didnt mention anything about when we can potentially meet those from outside your household?

I don't think he did?

Alsohuman · 10/05/2020 19:18

Seeing your family won’t have any economic benefit.

ragged · 10/05/2020 19:18

I had a feeling it was going to be a nothing statement. Wish my hunch had been wrong.

Hunnybears · 10/05/2020 19:20

@princesstwinkle

I can't believe he expects people to go to work tomorrow but not see their families!

But people need to work to pay for their homes, food etc... working is a must.

Seeing family and friends isn’t!!! Don’t get me wrong, it’s not great but surely FaceTime etc makes it far easier. It’s really not comparable

RaptorInaPorkPieHat · 10/05/2020 19:22

So all that noise about Garden Centres reopening was rubbish then.

MarshaBradyo · 10/05/2020 19:22

There have been a lot of people asking for work to restart, it is hard if financially people are suffering. Furlough will end soon. So go back to work if you can’t wfh doesn’t surprise me.

princesstwinkle · 10/05/2020 19:23

@Hunnybears however expecting people to go back and be able to interact with colleagues will hit hard for the fact you can't do that within your families

OP posts:
pigsDOfly · 10/05/2020 19:25

Well, that tweet clearly didn't come from Boris Johnson, OP.

He said nothing like that.

I think that was what Trump would call fake news.

princesstwinkle · 10/05/2020 19:27

@pigsDOfly came from his official account 🤷🏼‍♀️

....nor will sitting in a park 🤷‍♀️

Abreadsandwich · 10/05/2020 19:31

The message has always been wfh if at all possible. It's never been only essential or key workers can go to work.....but for many if their work place is closed, cant operate with social distancing or workload dried up then they wouldnt be going. My DH has been going to work (hes self employed and working in a building with no other people) but theres not a lot to do and still wont be for some time.

Hunnybears · 10/05/2020 19:32

@princesstwinkle

however expecting people to go back and be able to interact with colleagues will hit hard for the fact you can't do that within your families

But there will be social distancing at work though too, as much as there can be.

The furlough scheme will be ending soon so they need people to get back to work to support themselves.

princesstwinkle · 10/05/2020 19:34

@Hunnybears and you could arguably social distance seeing family 🤷🏼‍♀️

To me it's a mixed message. You can travel and stay outside all you want but don't see family. You can go back to work but don't use public transport but you should go in. Lots of people don't drive.

LastTrainEast · 10/05/2020 19:34

pigsDOfly "And how much contact is too much contact?" any contact you could reasonably have avoided. Which is what this has been about from the beginning. You can judge each situation knowing your own circumstances can't you.

But one lot of people say "unless you tell me to stay in I can't" and the other lot say "if you tell me to stay in then I won't"
