Do you think covid started in a wet market?

.....Or accidentally released from a laboratory?

OP posts:
CallMeRachel · 04/05/2020 21:41

Released from the Lab

Strangely interesting how China then manufactures and sells $$$$$$$ Ventilators for use in the pandemic.

PicsInRed · 04/05/2020 21:46

Released on purpose.

If that proved to be true even Russia and Iran wouldn't have China's back. I think the States of India could actually unite against a cause of that magnitude. It's possible that the West wouldn't need to raise a finger in punishment.

Surely, surely China wouldn't be that stupid and politically imprudent.
Surely. 🤔

KeepWashingThoseHands · 04/05/2020 21:46

I

KeepWashingThoseHands · 04/05/2020 22:01

Accident/zoonotic mutation.

I find it hard to believe it's intentional as whilst China may appear to benefit short term from PPE/ventilator manufacturing, they also lost significant revenues from not being able to fulfil supply chains. The international backlash would be/will be so severe and with scientific research as it is it's difficult to hide, so tough to see that being a conscious decision. As a nation they're also behind US, Germany and UK on vaccine development so can't see that as the angle.

China clearly sought to obfuscate the true impact early on though which is unacceptable any which way.

CricketCrocket · 04/05/2020 22:14

There are other theories online that a lab worker sold the animals that they experimented on to the wet market to make extra cash.

I even read one piece that said there was a shoot out between Americans and Chinese in the wet market and that the vial containing the novel Coronavirus was accidentally dropped there 🙄

BelleHathor · 04/05/2020 22:16

Surely, surely China wouldn't be that stupid and politically imprudent. Surely. 🤔 Perhaps if you had an unfriendly administration in the US you might want to ensure that a more friendly administration is elected in November by destroying a certain president's economy. Perhaps an administration like Obama's who originally approved the funding of the Wuhan lab in 2014 www.newsweek.com/dr-fauci-backed-controversial-wuhan-lab-millions-us-dollars-risky-coronavirus-research-1500741. An administration with politicians on your "favourable" list www.politico.com/amp/news/2020/02/08/mike-pompeo-governors-china-112539. An administration that didn't punish you for disappearing their spies www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-39989142, thus making it harder to even tackle this pandemic with no eyes on the ground. Perhaps you wish to continue to steal intellectual property with impunity and sell arms to hostile regimes. This whole "plandemic" has geopolitics written all over it, and we are the pawns....

@KeepWashingThoseHands

What's odd about my comment?

Fullmoonagain · 04/05/2020 22:21

I have no evidence either way, but on gut, there is something more to this, likely associated with the lab.

PicsInRed · 04/05/2020 22:24

Fucking coronavirus.

doublehalo · 04/05/2020 22:25

@KeepWashingThoseHands
Sorry, seems you just deleted your post.

For anyone who doesn't know, Gain of function experiments are when you take something bad like a flu virus for instance and fuck around with it in a P4 lab to see if you can make it worse.

They should be banned immediately worldwide and all samples etc destroyed.

AWryGiraffe · 04/05/2020 22:28

https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2020/apr/08/human-impact-on-wildlife-to-blame-for-spread-of-viruses-says-study-aoe?CMP=ShareiOSAppp_Other

I don't think it had anything to do with a lab. Theories about China and intentional release are crazy. The world is far too interlinked for acts of sabotage.

HairyToity · 04/05/2020 22:28

I think it is a natural mutation.

KeepWashingThoseHands · 04/05/2020 22:32

I know what gain of function studies are. I'm wondering why you think they should be banned given gene over-expression studies are integral to lots of research.

Maighdeann · 04/05/2020 22:38

Early on there was a story about Chinese lab workers who were sacked from a Canadian lab. They had been found sending samples back to China. No idea where I read that but it wasn't the back of a book like it sounds.

Blueswede · 04/05/2020 22:40

Lab.
Wet markets have been there for years so I’m sure if that bolox was true there’d have been multiple virus leaps annually from there.
Should still close them though Angry

PicsInRed · 04/05/2020 22:41

Maighdeann

I've seen that too. July 2019.

PicsInRed · 04/05/2020 22:42

I wonder how long this has been floating about. Who knew what and when.

YourVagesty · 04/05/2020 22:46

Honestly, it's too much of a coincidence that bats with coronavirus were being studied in Wuhan. Imagine if seagulls with Ebola were being studied in Grimsby. And then a breakout of seagull-originated Ebola came from grimsby. You wouldn't even need to think about it would you? It's clearly from the lab.

I don't think they did it on purpose though, just poor protective measures. It's a horrendous mistake, imo.

YeOldeTrout · 04/05/2020 22:47

I don't care where SARS-COV-2 came from.

I also don't care about...

life on other planets
colonising other planets
travel to other planets
anything that happens on Love Island
who wins the FA cup
what happened to MM
who shot JFK
who shot JR...

Not caring is sooooooooooo Liberating.

stakeholderwizz · 04/05/2020 22:48

Also if I paid someone to make a biological weapon and they only managed CV19 I'd probably fire them. It would be faster to go around hitting people with a big stick.

Agree with this to some extent but the tin hat wearer in me also thinks what if the impact wasn't designed to be a plague like death of all, but to cripple other countries economies. I know wuhan "locked down" but I find it very odd that no other Chinese provinces have been hit hard by the virus and no Chinese leaders succumbed to it either (not that we would have been told)

Maighdeann · 04/05/2020 22:49

I've just read another article stating it's fake news so who knows. But they sent Ebola on a commercial flight without the correct procedures being followed. WTH! edmdigest.com/news/china-ebola-virus-flight/?amp

It's so fishy.

LudaMusser · 04/05/2020 22:49

We will never know for certain like many other mystery's. It will be one big coverup just like big foot and the Loch Ness monster

doublehalo · 04/05/2020 22:50

@KeepWashingThoseHands

Gain-of-function (GOF) research involves experimentation that aims or is expected to (and/or, perhaps, actually does) increase the transmissibility and/or virulence of pathogens. Such research, when conducted by responsible scientists, usually aims to improve understanding of disease causing agents, their interaction with human hosts, and/or their potential to cause pandemics.

I'm not a scientist but that sounds like a really fucking stupid thing to do.

Maybe going forward we shouldn't do any more of it innit.
