Says Chris Witty. Nothing unexpected but I really wish they would say what they're talking about when they say shit like this. What does "some" mean? Schools? WFH? Family visits?

I was not replying to your post, we crossed. That's why there is reference to a specific quoted sentence, which you didn't do!!!

The80sweregreat · 23/04/2020 13:09

It seems to me that some people can only deal in soundbites. If Chris Witty had said
' we are getting there but it takes time' or some such maybe people would warm to him a bit more? He is a good orator and he is clearly very clever and articulate but to get through to some sections of society they might need it to be a bit more easier to understand. I tend to zone out at times too, there was a debate on channel four and the scientists on there were the same : very informed and good communicators but also a bit hard to follow , if anyone understands what I am trying to say here.
I have read up a bit about this virus on line and mumsnet have good threads too , but not everyone will do this or indeed want to. Science isn't an instant discipline. We're too used to quick fixes for things and this won't be a quick fix unfortunately.

Don't treat us like kids indeed but also be aware that people need bullet points or a plan set out in writing or just a different way of getting the messages across. The briefings get bogged down in other things too quickly to keep up with I think. I admit I'm not that quick at picking up on things myself , but I do try.

The messages have also been mixed and confusing as well. No wonder people are restless.
I watched the film contagion and that gave me a better understanding of this as well. It mirrors what is happening now and was made in 2011. Wished I'd watched it then!
I guess I never expected to see a pandemic here in my lifetime.

Did you mean me, then? No, I agree with Frompcat

Um, yeah. I don't consider that I am lacking in intelligence or comprehension skills.

Chris Whitty has a re-assuring drone that lulls me almost to sleep. Not sure whether that is good or bad !

CuriousaboutSamphire · 23/04/2020 13:19

I get that you both disagree with me. That's sort of what all these threads end up like: some posters want details about exit strategies, others accept the reasons why they aren't getting any.

That's it.

CoffeeIsMyOnlyJoy · 23/04/2020 13:23

I don't see the harm in asking on an online forum what a somewhat vague statement might mean. It's pretty clear the OP didn't expect someone to know precisely, but a bit of discussion can help process a scrap of news in a weird time.

OP I think Witty is trying to drastically reduce people's expectations after the Mail asserted that schools will be going back next month and weddings resuming from mid June.

I don't think there is a plan. They are still waiting to see what happens day by day.

Frompcat · 23/04/2020 13:24

I actually quite like Witty, I don't have anything against him.

I just don't see why other countries can give detail but the UK can't; that makes no logical sense to me.

Frompcat · 23/04/2020 13:26

Aaaand now Scotland have revealed their exit plan.

OP posts:
The80sweregreat · 23/04/2020 13:28

Read my response! I'm not saying anyone here is lacking anything! I was just pointing out why some of the messages are not getting across that well. That's all

Rosehip10 · 23/04/2020 13:30

Have they? The sg plan is just some broad statements.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 23/04/2020 13:34

Sturgeon did nothing not sort.

She said things should remain as they are

That the government is looking at the possibilities

I'd lockdown is eased too quickly it will have to be reinstated

Life won't immediately be like it was before

Some changes would be classroom layout changes.

None of which is a plan or anything that hasn't been said at the English press conferences.

Frompcat · 23/04/2020 13:37

Life won't immediately be like it was before

FGS we all KNOW that. That is not what anyone on this thread thinks is going to happen.

I feel that that document released by the Scottish government was much, much clearer than anything that has been said at any British government press conference.

Anyone have a link to the document issued by scot gov? I must be googling the wrong terms

CuriousaboutSamphire · 23/04/2020 13:38

I was quoting Sturgeon!!!!

CuriousaboutSamphire · 23/04/2020 13:42

That doesn't work for me... Could you try again, I just find links to her speech today's

B1rdbra1n · 23/04/2020 13:43

what 'all in it together' means is 'all must accept restrictions which impact everyone to different degrees and benefit each to different degrees and in return we can sweeten the pill with feelings of community spirit

Well said

I think they are treating people like idiots ! Why they cannot tell people
What they are plans are ?

CuriousaboutSamphire · 23/04/2020 13:48

Thanks! How is that different from anything we have already heard?

Or is it just because it is written down?

It is almost identical to everything Chris Whitty said yesterday, and others over the last week.

bumblingbovine49 · 23/04/2020 13:55

Honestly the future that Lockheart describes is one that I don't want to be a part of for certain. Is this what others are prepared to accept?

It doesn't sound that bad to me and I am an extrovert. Humans are amazingly resilient. People survive much much worse than the situations Lockheart has described. I appreciate it was just some ideas and in no way what will definitely happen but it sounds ok for a year or two anyway

percentageshelp · 23/04/2020 13:57

I've read through the document. It doesn't say anything new or different?
